And this weekend is Diwali: the Festival of Light. On Diwali night, little clay lamps are lighted in Hindus homes; Light is a symbol of all that’s positive. Darkness represents ignorance, and light is a metaphor for love and knowledge. Therefore, lighting a lamp symbolizes the destruction of all negative forces.
