Aravind's Eye Care Awareness
On 15th February 2013 Auroville hosted the Eye Care Awareness Symposium, in Town Hall. The symposium was conducted by the Aravind Eye Hospital, Pondicherry, as a part of 10th anniversary celebrations. Tree specialists (Dr. Venkatesh, Dr. Prathmesh and Dr. Manavi) spoke about: Advances in Cataract and Refractive Surgery, Diabetic Retinopathy and ARMD and Silent Killer of Vision Glaucoma. Question and answer session took place at the end of the presentation. The event was organized by Aster Patel with the help of Chandresh Patel.
Here’s some info about the Aravind Eye Care Hospital. “Inaugurated in 2003, Aravind Eye Hospital, Pondicherry has grown to accommodate 137 paying patients and 465 free patients. The hospital is well equipped and designed in a way that would help Aravind maintain its standard in providing eyecare service. It serves a population of 21.6 million covering the districts Tiruvallur, Vellore, Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram and Cuddalore. Aravind- Pondicherry handled 456,357 outpatient visits and performed 50,960 surgeries from April 2011 – March 2012.” www.aravind.org
