Kim Cunio & Heather Lee (Photographer: Puja)No surprise that the performance at Arka starring Heather Lee and Kim Cunio for the second time was absolutely magnificent. Kim began by divulging the extraordinary life of Hildegard of Bingen which surprisingly exposed the origins of tithing, it's Christian mandate and her incredible donation of self as an anchorite; a person who has retired to a solitary place for a life of religious seclusion. In brief, the audience was delivered a history lesson about the concept of giving.

It seems that centuries ago, one tenth of everyone's income was mandatorily handed over to the church - including a person. And, as Hildegard was the tenth child of a religious family her fate was set in stone so to speak. Heather’s voice aptly displayed a soul stirring rendition of Hildegard’s story. Kim accompanied Heather showing off his musical prowess and deep sounding vocals filling the venue with a powerful resonance. Heather’s vocals easily adapted to the song’s poignant lyrics. Visually, Heather delivered a convincing performance simply because of the way she shares her talents so effortlessly which left the audience mesmerized. Interestingly, today in Auroville, donations are voluntary and spontaneous, adding a sense of grace in relation to imparting our wealth, time, skills and knowledge. In 2012, maybe this is a true representation of our collective growth and how ‘unity in diversity’ works. Hildegard of Bingen (Photographer: Puja) Arka was packed (Photographer: Puja)
