Auroville`s Organic Outreach

As a kick-off for the presentation of the Auroville Sustainable Agriculture Plan (ASAP), within the next few months, Auroville Radio presents a series of eleven interviews concerning the foods we eat in Auroville. What were the ideas in the old days of Auroville regarding agriculture and sustainable foods? Which agricultural developments did Auroville been through since the first Aurovillians started to change the dusty plains into the forest it is today? How is the present situation in Auroville’s greenbelt and what is it capable of? And, perhaps most important, what are the challenges for the future?….

..Different people, all involved in Auroville’s food sector, give their personal views and opinions on these matters from their own background… In this seventh interview Priya talks about Buddha Garden but in particular about CSF, Center for Sustainable Farming. To make financial ends meet, Priya started her CSF project together with Vivek, an organic agricultural PhD who lives at Buddha Garden. Because an extra source of income was needed, Priya and Vivek started an outreach outreach to auroville’s organic farmers community. Now the objective of spreading the word of organic farming in India and the world serves the function of raising money for the farm. In this way, Priya and Vivek try to show, that farming doesn’t need to be a time consuming enterprise as one starts to think of how to implement farming into a daily routine full with other pursuits. By means of the CSF Priya tries to be an example for both people with an interest in organic farming in India and for Aurovillians who have little time spare to share in Auroville’s food production.
