Community Living

In this interview we speak with Marti, an Aurovillian who shares her views on what makes a community work. She speaks about climate change and the drastic challenges we’re to face; and, how Auroville as a community is in a unique and inspiring position to help create solutions to some of the most pressing world problems. She offers insightful commentary on the complexity and beauty of living in a sustainable community. Her life experience with community has prepared her for the international political realm, where she works with the United Nations, UNESCO, and the Global Ecovillage Network (GEN) as a voice for sustainable communities.

She’s has a youthful air about her, a dynamic and sincere personality, and is quick to add laughter to the conversation. Since working with the GEN she has signed Auroville up as a member, a controversial move within the community, but she felt the need to be a part of such an inspiring organization, even though she views Auroville not as an ecovillage but as an ecotown.
