A computer virus? A PC worm?? Not, this time real Trojan walked the soil of Auroville!
The 6th grade students of Transition School performed one of the most famous events of the Greek mythology, the Trojan war. Gods, swords, kings, princess and a horse-unicorn is the recipe of the well attended play. The classic Greek tragedy is turned in an modern novel with mobile phones and rock songs. This choice made accessible the roots of the western culture to kids and teenagers. May be not a very classical interpretation but for sure we all had fun.

At Bla Bla Xmas Fair at Youth Center was still hot, and action in full swing when Anna hit the stage with ethnic songs, accompanied by Rolf and Johnatan. Not many words but couple of action oriented ethnic music, not so very well know to the joyful audience, but well appreciated anyhow. And what is Christmas if it is not for joyful sharing amongst each other, for sharing the festive spirit in light and love?

Blues was on the stage at Bla Bla Xmas Fair at Youth Center with Swaha and Rolf, swinging us into more mellow mood. And the temperatures were already droping a bit, bargains were almost done, children were exhausted of all the fun, the gadgets they have visited, actions they have participade in... after solid portion of blues annoucnments and callings for dinner were out, and the youngest started to depart from the site, and whole Fair was slowly shifting in to the evening tone and set of action painted in music.

As the highlight of the evening, Yemadas and Friends performed a great set of world music. Despite the late hour the people were dancing and some were even singing along with the musicians. The atmosphere was great and the selection of music and instruments varied from Brazilian over African to Indian inspired. Get a listen here.

The Bla Bla Christmas Fare was a very special occasion for the workers of the Svaram music shop. Svaram co-workers have been receiving training in playing music, and music theory ever since the beginning of the project from a succession of teachers, local and international. Many performances have been given in Auroville, India and even a few abroad.
The group's performance at the Fare, accompanied by a flute player, was a success, with catchy drum rhythms and the crowd dancing in front of the stage. Read more

At Youth Center Bla Bla Xmas Fair was in full swing, music rocking, children playing, running around and laughing, bigger children catching up with friends, bargaining were going on at the stall, food was smelling delicious ... it was just a time for a traditional Cake Competition. Following is the soundscape of almost an hour long tasting and judging of the cakes put on display by the members of the community. ..."Tasteful, but not for children, .. great looking but ..." And which one got the prize?

This year name of the Christmas Fair - Bla Bla was in a way a reminder that although it is right that we do communicate in order to progress, we still need to transform the ideas and words into real action. And there was a lot of action, some old, but always popular, activities like bonger spronger, gyroscope, flying fox, and some new ones. At this point of the time in the afternoon Suryan with two guests shared some of the songs. Priscila, also with excellent voice, and a drummer of course brought some fresh dimensions.

When the year comes around the community wouldn't be the same if it wouldn't be for the Christmas fair at Youth Center. A dedicated team of Tree House and Youth Center community with many volunteers have put lots of effort in this year's one. Many activities, stalls,corners...and of course the stage with its program rocking from early afternoon hours. Visiting South Korean students from Traveling School with their mentor Sonny shared traditional music of South Korea with the community with impressive beats, and the unique sound of the gong.

Genius Incorporated Production at the third session of The Quiz Show have brought us to the Grand Finale on Saturday night at Visitor Centre. Game already familiar as well to the players as to the audience, which actively participated in the course of the event, again connected all in a deep sense of community. And as Wazo commented at one point :"..we are one, one body, one love, one soul...", and oneness in laughter... Since that it was the last in the series of the Quiz Shows many prizes were given out, and many thanks have been said.

The OM Collective, a group of four young, creative and talented people from US, was invited to perform for Solitude's Friday night sushi extravanganza. This band was founded after four musicians, all students on the Living Routes program (Ty, Timothy, Trevor and Mitch) decided to collaborate their skills and present a live jam at the Solitude Farm last Friday. The perfomance started with some nice solo guitar songs by Trevor and Mitch and continued with awesome live jaming and conscious hip-hop lyrics by Ty with djembe percussion by Timothy.

Last Friday at Solitude Farm, Aurovilian musician and a wonderful guitar player Ashaman gave a live music performance with some classical guitar melodies from Brazil and Spain. The audience was enjoying a special Krishna's vegan sushi dinner. While Ashaman provided a beautiful and warm sound atmosphere and near the end Suresh, Aurovilian percussionist, accompanied him so perfectly!

To conclude summer holidays Lisa wanted to share some of her favorites songs with friends and community, expressing what she pursues in her studies in Holland. Lisa, with exquisite voice, heading in a soul direction, was accompanied by Matt on keyboards and saxophone, Martin and Holger on classical guitar; Jonas and Tina joined in a couple of songs. As music is about emotions, feelings, the songs lulled us into those zones, where the only right thing is to be with friends, family and loved ones.

Chiildren of Dolphins and Rainbow Horses from Deepanam School had been practising singing with Joy and Jivatman for the whole school year... and they wanted to share with their friends, parents, members of community how joyful singing can be. Last night, despite that the Kabir Festival is going on in the city , audience was quite numerous, listening attentively to a range of songs from all over. Graceful children voices, accompanied by Jivatman on guitar cheered up our hearts.

Krishna Kumar, a musician and teacher of Carnatic music, through his band 'Krishna's Temple Rock' creates a new global music drawing its roots from traditional Carnatic ragas and songs sung for the divine in the temples, and setting them into new musical frames inspired by Western rock and jazz. The five musicians fuse their particular approaches and styles, their feelings and experiences into unique compositions, making Krishna's Temple Rock a contributor to world music.

To celebrate life and overcoming cyclone was the keynote of Lively Up Your Earth eco music Festival in Solitude Farm on Saturday 28th of January. With Cyclone Blue we went down the memory lane into early 70ies, by evergreen rock songs well played and sung by amazing olny 13 years old Danny, who joined his father Amando and Matt. And it is something in known that made us at ease, so Cyclone Blue hit the dancing strings in audience and enthusiastic share of encouragement. To Joel and his team we are grateful for excellent sound.

One day before the cyclone Thane, on the 29th of December 2011, the Italian musicians Ludovica and Paolo offered a music workshop in the Life Education Centre of Auroville, teaching Tamil girls how to express themselves through sound and rhythm.
During this rainy morning the LEC girls enjoy the flavour of gypsy music performed by Ludovica and Paolo, sang African songs of joy, learned to play different instruments, to make sound with their own bodies, while dancing and laughing with the diversity of activities developed during the workshop.

Artisti da oltre vent'anni continuano il loro percorso interiore e musicale girando il mondo esplorando diverse culture e nuovi paesaggi sonori. NTZ hanno prodotto tre cd ed il quarto uscira' in Italia a marzo. Nuove Tribu Zulu hanno lavorato con i Rom nei loro campi nomadi, con babini nel Sud Africa ed altre situazioni di disagio sociale tra cui, Scampia, nel napoletano.

"The third and final discussion on Live AurovilleRadio from the Auroville Film Festival action station was concluded yesterday. The participants were Uriel, Rakhal, Sagarika, Priyadharshni, Graham and Danbe. And I got to moderated it. While Graham, Uriel, and Rakhal were film making instructors, Danbe, Sagu and Priya were participants in film making workshops. I tried to get a common definition for the topic that all participants including the younger members could understand and be comfortable with.

New Kalabhumi, not by the spirit but by the new bright colors on the sits, lights, stage, and roof over snack area. And Sunday night 28th of August was a special night for the Brand New Band, since that was the night to say goodby to Noam, who left Auroville. A musically inspired band of young teenagers was great on expressing themselves trough instruments, but for vocals it was obvious that time for rehearsal was too short. It didn't take long for enthusiastic public to rock on evergreen rock close to the stage area.

Yes, two years are around already, and Auroville Film Festival 2011 is approaching fast. In the interview with Marco and Tlaloc we found out some interesting details about it. Believe it or not, but those who hasn't applied yet still got two solid weeks to do so. At the same time organizers are asking for help in many various forms of volunteering work. Auroville Film Festival is much more than just a bunch of more or less good movies - it is about sharing, educating, being together as community in festive environment dedicated to film.

Almost a hundred kids have been preparing since weeks to be ready for the show on Tamil New Year evening celebration,Thursday 14th of April 2011, at the Sri Aurobindo Auditorium, Bharat Nivas, Pavilion of Indian Culture. Nine groups of children presented eleven performances to welcome the coming Tamil "Kara" year. Two devotional songs were song by children from Meera women's group and a live music was prepared by Balu for devotional purposes of the Mother to end the evening. From the backstage, few minutes before starting, performers are giving a glimpse of their presentation for this very special show.

For the third time in this year we had a chance to admire many Auroville performing artists at Kalabhumi in the Open Stage Cabaret. Some acts were new, some old, some funny, some touched serious issues of life, some were about dance, some were theater...but all were held together by the ever engaging spirit of Jesse, the Master of Ceremonies who brought our laughter almost to the tears. As with everything else in Auroville, the Open stage Cabaret, organized and prepared by the Auroville Performing Artist group, is evolving and progressing. Each Cabaret is in better shape, and you can always feel it is done with a lot of enthusiasm and heart.

Last weekend the Auroville Choir performed a concert of Celtic songs at Pitanga to a packed house both Saturday and Sunday. The surprise in this particular concert was the finale; Anandi, choir member and daughter of Nuria and Joan, had composed the music for a poem by Wordsworth: romantic lyrics set to romantic, haunting music.
In the very air of Pitanga was excitement as the choir members readied themselves to express the joy of singing for an audience, after much work, much practice and repetition under the skillful hands of conductor Nuria.

Three days Festival of Tibetan Culture was concluded by hearted performance Dances From the Roof of the World at Visitor Center last night. Students from Tibetan Children Village, and Tibetan Students Association, Madras prepared interesting night of dances and songs by some less know facts about Tibet told by Jesse. Even living in exile those youngsters showed us that life does goes one, and one way to preserve national cultural heritage is also trough dances and songs. Their unbending spirit and courage gave to the whole performance beauty and charm...with lots of heart.
