Mahakali Park
This morning at Conference Room in Town Hall four internship students of landscaping presented their vision of Mahakali Park - From forest to the public park in Revelation. All four of them are students of ENSP Versailles School of Landscape in France, and were under the supervision of landscape architect Marie. The Revelation Community was established years ago with the main purpose to extensively plant trees, but now they would like to share the beauties and responsibilities of it with visitors and wider community. Bliss Forest Walk
Surrounding the Youth Centre and north of Town Hall is Bliss Forest, home to porcupines and many birds. Early on Sunday morning we were led by the Bliss steward Dominik on a walk through the forest. The area faces its own share of road controversies as Aurovilians work out how best to continue building the city. Which should take precedent of the galaxy plan, Master Plan, or existing features is a perennial question. As we walked we learned a bit about the biodiversity of the place, and efforts to clear the wood brought down by Cyclone Thane. Read more

Development Priorities issues
Infrastructure cable, Crown Road, Master Plan and Development Priorities issues was the topics of the meeting with the town planners of l'Avenir d'Auroville. The meeting was called by residents of Centre Field and Aurodam inviting other Aurovilians to come forward and share their feelings and experiences. The two hours of meeting touched many aspects of the planning work and the ground realities. Thousands of Smiles

A truly inspiring Sunday morning! More than 3000 people gathered at dawn at the Visitor Centre to participate to the 6th Auroville's marathon to run over the path and paved roads of Auroville. The most common word I've heard it's "awesome"... Believe me this interviews are barely edited and what it comes out is that the runners were just so happy! Bridging the Polarities: Ecology
How can we overcome inherited anthropocentrism in our relationship with nature as we develop "the city the earth needs"? This week's meeting with B and Luigi brought Rishi into the studio. Rishi, from the Youth Center, shared with us his concerns about the direction in which Auroville is heading and its relationship with the natural area which has grown over the past 40 years. Awareness of Conectedness
After almost two years of intensive research and study David Stein yesterday presented a Green Belt Plan - Draft . That plan should help us to deal with issues relating to land use, encroachment and the role of the green belt to water in Auroville and the bio region. In his presentation David Stein indeed emphasized awareness of interconnectedness, and vital role of water. Water sources should be preserved and kept in the area by proper measurements to supply Auroville and its bio region. Numerous questions followed the presentation. Read more

New Beauty in the Town

The imaginative  trunk on the bypass road between Kalabhumi to Arka was very much inspiring to Liliana to made it alive. Here is a short interview with her just after she and Nelle finished the art installation in the middle of hot afternoon with bikes passing by, and the road workers on their job. The trunk, most likely the remains of the cyclone Thane is now alive again, with purple vest and some very colorful flowers on the head, made by Liliana at the workshop. And, of course this piece of art belongs to all, and invites to continue. Read more

Book Launch
Tim Wrey launched his book 'Footsteps through the Salad' yesterday at Town Hall. The book is a collection of well-researched and interesting articles about the wildlife of Auroville and some of the natural phenomenon associated with the area. It will be available in the bookshops in Auroville and copies will be provided to schools for their libraries. Tim took the opportunity to thank SAIIER, the publisher, and also the people who helped him with material, encouragement, suggestions and feedback. Read more

Horses and Fire
In today's news we feature interview with Shivaraj, of the village Kottakarai, who is the man behind the Martuvam Healing Forest. On February 13 an electrical fire burnt down his family's home where he grew up and where his mother now lives. No person was harmed in the fire, but the house and everything inside is completely gone. On Sunday 19th between 10am to 1pm at Deepanam School we are all invited to the Big Bazaar, and about this fundraising event for the benefit of the horses with talked with Falguni - teacher, about it. Running with a smile
The Auroville Marathon ( is held in February each year and this year is the fifth anniversary of the event. This program contains interviews with Chandresh and Balaji, two organizers who make the Marathon possible. While Chandresh talks about how he first had the idea of having a Marathon for Auroville, Balaji goes through the challenges involved in organizing an event that has over two thousand participants from all over the world. Wood and Hat Tournament
On February 4th and 5th at Certitude and Udavi sports ground we can witness Auroville Hat Tournament 2012 India Ultimate's. Two hundred players from all over will come and test their fitness and improve their skills with an 'Auroville' spirit . Daily Sounds of Chainsaws
Since Cyclone Thane raged over our city almost all of us are busy with cleaning, mostly fallen and broken trees. Many are not waiting for volunteer's help or Tamil paid labor but they started to clean the communities and the surrounding on themselves. For that reason the sound of chainsaw is our everyday soundscape . Juan, the professional chainsaw user, offered this morning at Town Hall a useful practical demonstration of its use, shared some safety tips and answered on practical questions of quite many chainsaw users. Impact of the Storm

Auroville Wood-link, an initiative of the Auroville Forest group seeks people to run, maintain and manage the project. The financial impact of the storm is devastating to many forests; there is a lot of timber on the floor, but the forest will not have any other source of income for the next 10 to 15 years. AV Cyclone Response Team strongly request the cooperation of all residents regarding handling of Auroville's wood and timber. They're asking us NOT TO SELL AUROVILLE WOOD OR EXCHANGE IT FOR LABOR. All Auroville wood, or its value, will eventually be utilized to rebuild Auroville. We should understand that if one choose to sell or exchange Auroville wood on his own, one cannot expect reimbursement for rebuilding costs such as clearing, ... After Cyclone Priority
The Working Committee member Daniel talks about the rehabilitation work happening in Auroville after the Thane cyclone. The most urgent matter is the restoring of the electricity since Auroville depends 100% on water pumped by the borewells. The electrical distribution lines are totally destroyed. About 150 electrical poles are broken and only 50 of them are available. It is estimated that the recovery of electrical power in all the different communities will take around one month.
