Shyama`s Interview Part 2

On December 5th, Francois and Rakhal projected the 2nd part of Shyama's (Certitude) interview. This is an extremely moving movie as Shyama recounts the very beginnings of Auroville, her unique relationship with the Mother, the death of the first Auroson and the birth of the second one, as well as her insights into Auroville today. Shyama had seven children and her life, courage and strength are an inspiration to all. The 5th of December is Sri Aurobindo's Mahasamadhi and it is a fitting day as Shyama, the name given by the Mother, is one of Krishna's names. Read more

How Close Are We?

The Pavilion of French Culture shows, at regular intervals, video interviews with Aurovilians who knew the Mother. Screenings take place at Cinema Paradiso, Town Hall. As Rakhal explains, until today 25 interviews have been recorded, with more to be done. Rakhal and Francois Gautier are working on them, and, as Rakhal says, in general it is very touchy to record these testimonial reflections on the past and future development of Auroville. At the same time, the interviews are vivid documents of the growth that has happened.

New Selection Process

Following are the minutes of the 2nd GM on a proposed New Selection Process for the Working Committee and the Auroville Council with a Participatory Working Group Proposal. Due to the rain, the meeting was not well attended. Still, what was exposed was that perhaps a new process will not make the dissatisfaction of the community disappear. It was mentioned, that even the best selection process possible would do nothing until we are ready to tackle the core issues that are burdening the community, causing much passivity and non-participation of its members. Signs of Human Unity?
Which are the signs of human unity in Auroville? "In my third visit to Auroville, I came to prepare the plan for my Master, about public policies under an evolutionary perspective. As Auroville aims at realizing human unity according to Sri Aurobindo’s vision, to me it seemed obvious to consider Auroville the right place to develop my research. Inspired by the question Arjuna asks to Krishna, and here I have to quote freely: when the Divine manifests on the earth, how He walks, how He sits, how He talks?" Read more

One year later, on the 44th birthday of Auroville's beginning, the exhibit opened at 9:30 a.m. following a concentration and consecration of the space. The exhibit, which was partially created with earth from the Matrimandir Gardens, was envisioned to be more a more spatial, visceral, and visual venue than the old exhibit. The creation was a smooth and quiet process, and was realized just in time for the one year deadline. Read more

A way to Divine Anarchy
Within a short visit of Engineers Without Borders from Australia Elvira introduced to them governance and working groups as a part of evolving process which should lead us to the Divine Anarchy, as The Mother named it. Elvira shortly presented history, and how the number of residents invoked the need for more formal governance in the form of a delegate system in order to interact with outer world and Indian Government. Changing process of governance is a slow one because in basically a process of changing ourselves.

More Transformation for Children
Last week AurovilleRadio broadcast Loretta's talk on transformation to sixty fourth graders from Transition School. A second talk to a second group of sixty fourth graders called out a very different style of lecture, with different stories for different children. Swaha and Martin's classes were more serious and concentrated, Loretta reports. In the wonderful way things happen in Auroville, their lecture automatically tailored itself for their way of learning. This time. Anu and Paula's classes were more light hearted and lively, and their lecture came with a very different energy. Did these sixty lively children sit still and listen to the subject which adults say they can't understand? Nobody moved. You could have heard a pin drop in the room. Read more

Transformation for Fourth Graders

What are the mysterious words "Supramental Transformation? Sixty fourth grade children came to the Supramental Transformation exhibition at Savitri Bhavan to hear Loretta explain. Will children of 9-10 years remain quiet and listen to a subject which adults say they can't understand? Every child remained attentive, and they really learned what the words mean. Then they heard the story of The Mother's experience on the Supramental Ship. When the children walked freely through the exhibition they felt very much at home. Read more

Genius or Soul?
Despite the holiday Saturday the discussion on the second session on the Nation Soul was lively, and more spontaneous. But they all agreed upon to go back to basic text of the Mother and Sri Aurobindo to find the starting point of the research. The double, philosophical aspect on the subject lies within the nature of the Mother's world about it, and the nature of it by itself. We need to dwell into pshychic being of each nation, to grasp the fundamental genius, in order to bring it into the contact with the true spirits of other countries, and start the interaction of mutual respect and understanding. Forecomers Community 1968
The earliest settlers on the land of Auroville: Debora and Bob. Listen to Debora reminisce about those days, back in 1968....Forecomers is the name Mother gave to that area and Debora and Bob were those pioneers to come first. Under primitive conditions they built a basic strructure on an arid plain overlooking a canyon, chosen for its beauty. Water was delivered daily by truck which meant boiling it for drinking as well as learning to bathe with perhaps two cups of the precious commodity, until a bore well was prepared. Debora, visiting Auroville today, finds the present living conditions indeed luxurious compared to 40 years ago. She also describes meeting the Mother.

Fate and Love

Not many visitors from Iran come to Auroville. We had a chance to met Dr. Bijan Vala, who told us that fate has brought him here, and he would like to get involved and be active mostly on the field of expressive arts such as music and theater. He sees Auroville as an example of good thoughts, which proved that dreams can turn into reality, and yet he's aware that in the process problems do arise. He likes the Love, The Dream, Matrimandir,... For him the beauty of Matrimandir is that there's nothing religious about it, everybody is left to his/her own thoughts. Read more
