Book, Celebrations and Cooking
At the Amethyst in Chennai tomorrow at 7pm Anu, honorary voluntary artist will launch her new book along with Krishna D. B and Partha , who we will be doing a dramatized reading of the book. Book launch is hosted by Prakriti Foundation. On Friday 9th of December we are all invited to join the Deepam Celebration at 6pm at Deepam School. Karthigai Deepam has for centuries been celebrated around full moon in November or December. Tsunami Alarm Service and Diwali
On Tuesday, 25th of October 2011we’re all invited to celebrate Diwali at Bharat Nivas., after delicious common dinner at Solar Kitchen . Program starts at 7.00 pm with fireworks with all our children at the entrance of the Auditorium. Between and 7.30pm to 8.45pm we will see an Indian classical dance. Rapahel from Sri Ma is happy to announce that from next week onwards there will be a new free service for the resident of Auroville's beach communities: Auroville Tsunami Alarm Service (AVTAS). Performances, films
KAI Trust presents Dhara-Auroville Dance Encounter tonight at 8pm at Sri Aurobindo Auditorium Bharat Nivas, Pavilion of Indian Culture. The performance incorporates classical Odiisi with folk gotipua, sahi yatra and contemporary dance elements, presented with back projections of pattachitra paintings. On Thursday at the same place we can see Repeated Act of Giving, a multimedia dance performance by Grace Gitadella and Savitri Maya with Sasikanth Somu, Danny Becher, and Joy and Jean LeGrand. Offerings for Anniversary

Stupa, Breaking Boundaries
The Symbolism of the Tibetan Stupa by Khenpo Lodro Donyo Rinpoche will occur today at 5pm at Pavilion of Tibetan Culture. Tomorrow at 8pm at Sri Aurobindo Auditorium, Bharat Nivas, the Pavilion of India presents "Breaking Boundaries”, a contemporary dance performance choreographed by Astad Deboo, with the members of the Salaam Balak Trust and with the street children from Delhi. Astad Deboo does regular work with children from low socio economic backgrounds. Working Committee informs us that after the meeting with the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Mr. Uthaykumar he has assigned a team of five special officers to patrol roads of the Auroville between 11pm and 5am. They ask for everyone's patience and understanding in the event of coming into contact with this team of special officers. Read more

Snakeman Rom
The news today features Rom Whitaker who visits Auroville once again to present his newest film on a subject that attracts and repels most of us: snakes. Rom demystifies some of our fears by identifying which snakes are poisonous, which snakes are aggressive and how important it is if bitten to remain quiet, still and be taken for an injection of anti-venom. A series of three talks had happened at the Unity Pavilion on the subject: Exploration of Nation Soul. Pongalo Pongal
Today's news features the yearly festival of Pongal, as it's celebrated here; it's actually the Tamil equivalent of America's Thanksgiving. Pongal signifies the advent of prosperity, normally celebrated over 4 days with house cleaning, oil baths, kolams,special foods, new clothing, new cooking vessels, sandalpaste, mango and coconut and sugarcane greens and a general sense of prosperity. Christmas weekend passed in real spirit of light, sharing, joy, and peace with many different events on various locations, of which all of them weren't connected to the Christmas. In the Hindu religion Diwali is the most important festival of the year and is celebrated with families performing traditional activities together in their homes. FEAR and Diwali
“I'm Affraid” told us Deborah, a guest and volunteer in Auroville in the interview about the attack she experienced last Thursday on the road from the village toward Auroville. She was also shocked over the suggestion on the way she supposed to ensure her safety around here, given to her by the head of the Auroville Security. Sadly, but this city is turning into a place with strong curfew after the sunset, placed by some local men and boys. Matrimandir His Playground
Jean Pougault is featured in an interview in today's news; he came to live and work in Auroville in its earliest days. Matrimandir is his place of work and growth, his gift and his playground. Integral Sustainability Platform
Today's news features an interview with Alon on the Integral Sustainability Platform in Auroville. Also announced in the news is the workshop “Fate or Choice?” from March the 19th to the 20th, going deeper into the mystery of concealed dynamics and rediscovering your own choice. This Thursday at Convergence is “Learning from Nature”, including the exploration into various topics relating to the environment, ecology and perceptions of different world-views. Also on Thursday will be the “Sampradayam”, a salute to Bharata Natyam by choreographer Mallika Sarabhai at the Sri Aurobindo Auditorium at 8pm.

Veenu Shah and Ranjana Pandey

Kala Kendra, Bharat Nivas, The Pavilion Of India invites you to an open interaction with Veenu Shah an expert enamelist and senior artist.

 

Veenu Shah has been working with a group of Aurovilian designers and artists at Kala Kendra since a week, teaching them the enamel techniques and setting up an enamel studio.

   

On the same evening there will be a presentation by Ranjana Pandey.

   

Ranjana is a puppeteer, who runs an NGO called Janmadhyam for mentally challenged girls, since last twenty five years in New Delhi. She will talk about "Puppets and means of communication". On Saturday 15th of April from 3.30 to  6.00 pm.
