After 12th of January when earthquake of catastrophic magnitude stroke Haiti, the whole world react on it with different ways of help. Sadhana Forest Group left for Haiti in April to offer help and introduce the model of reforestation project with environmental leadership program. On the South West corner of Haiti, on the border with Dominican Republic, in the poorest area of Anse-a-Pitre the piece of land was offered to them to work on it. Sadhana Forest group wants to share a strong vision, and experience of Auroville with the people of Anse-a-Pitre, which would lead to a different kind of consciousness and different attitude.

Sraddhalu Ranade, invited by the Newcomer Program Team, offered a lecture at Savitri Bhavan the 19th of June 2010. Sraddhalu is a scientist, educationist and scholar residing at the Sri Aurobindo Ashram; Pondicherry. This talk covers a broad spectrum of themes relating to life in Auroville, from the essential spiritual truths that it seeks to realize, to the practical forms and means that need to be worked on. Among other things, it covers issues such as Auroville's relationship to other communities, attitude in dealing with daily trials and struggles in the community, critical difference between daily work and karma-yoga, practical hints and secrets to Auroville's success that are embedded in the Charter of Auroville. Joël et Muriel, venus de Belgique, ont choisi de s'embarquer pour l'aventure aurovilienne. Pour ces deux nouveaux arrivants, vivre à Auroville c'est d'abord une expérience radicale et quotidienne sur le chemin de la transformation. Ils ont été conviés par le groupe «Newcomers for newcomers» à une conférence sur Auroville présentée par Sraddhalu Ranade, scientifique et pédagogue de l'ashram Sri Aurobindo ( voir «Presentation on Auroville by Sraddhalu Ranade» sur AurovilleRadio, pour l'écouter en entier). Ils s'expriment ici au fil de la Charte, commentant la conférence et dévoilant leurs expériences intérieures à cœur ouvert. Programme légèrement bilingue, où la voix de Sraddhalu en anglais et celles de Muriel et Joël en français, s'entremêlent et tissent le rêve selon eux.

Pour les nouvelles d'Auroville de cette semaine, nous avons partagé le micro avec Aurélien, journaliste à Radio Campus Besançon, de passage à Auroville. Avec sa voix radiophonique il nous annonce une conférence du pavillon de France sur « l'eau et la vie ». Aussi dans ces nouvelles des mélodies africaines jouées par Ana et Tiago lors du cabaret de vendredi dernier. Ils joueront aussi à la soirée africain vendredi 26 mars au Visitor Center.

Humour du divin ou pas, après quarante ans nous sommes 2000 et quelques milliers dans le monde à y croire alors que des centaines de millions d'hommes se battent, se haïssent du nord au sud et de l'ouest à l'est. Riches contre pauvres, blancs contre noirs, blancs entre blancs, noirs entre noirs... Ainsi toutes les couleurs de l'arc en ciel humain se détestent copieusement. Hassan est venu pour la première fois à Auroville il y a 25 ans. Après avoir passé quelques mois à Auroville, il  rentre en France pour faire une formation en pépinière et arboriculture avec l'idée en tête de revenir s'installer à Auroville. Mais le destin en a décidé autrement. En effet son chemin à croisé celui de Pierre Rabih qui à l'époque montait un projet en agro-écologie au Burkina Faso. Irina Bokova, est la nouvelle et première femme directrice générale de l'UNESCO. Le 12 janvier dernier, elle nous a fait l'honneur de sa présence en visite officielle à Auroville. Elle commença sa visite par une méditation au Matrimandir et nous rejoignis juste après dans la salle de conférence du Town Hall où les résidents d'Auroville l'attendaient. Elle mentionna son désir de changement vers un nouvel humanisme. Une fois le discours terminé, nous avons été invité à prendre un thé et des petits gâteaux avec Mme Bokova pour une rencontre de proximité avec les Auroviliens. L'Avenir d'Auroville organised a General Information Meeting on Thursday, the 10th of December at 5pm in the Town Hall. The International Zone group, the Visitor's Centre team and peple from Bharat Nivas presented and explained the recently approved lay-out about the International Zone and specific projects of Bharat Nivas and the Visitor's Centre. Marc Luyckx, member of advisory council gave us his feedback about the last General Meeting on 21st of July. He believes that Auroville will need a new political system of democracy which will be suitable to deal with 50 000 people. Right now is not certain who is executing what, and is not well understood that executing power is only a service to the community with limited time of elected executives, and that legislative and executive powers are not the same. Positive thoughts of Julian Lines leaded into direction of women rule in executive powers, and Mother was always encouraging women to be in the Senat in order to get executive powers.

The Inauguration of the Inuksuk took place on Saturday, the 28th of February, at the back of the Tibetan Pavilion, where the Inuksuk stands. Inuksuks are stone figures created by the first inhabitants of the Canadian north, the Inuit. Jean Laroquette passe dix huit ans a Auroville ou il y devient Croquette. De metteur en scene, enseignant et tennisman, Croquette a toujours exerce un travail de formation aupres des jeunes. This event has been broadcast live and recorded. The first milestone! A successful connection between the participants at the AVI meeting in Formia, Italy with AurovilleRadio in Town Hall took place on Saturday 14 October.  Daniel and Andrea, Marco and Samuel have put in countless hours of time clearing the pathways to make this connection possible.  And Kias, the technician of Town Hall's computer system, gave invaluable assistance as well.  How incredible to be able to sit here in Town Hall and clearly hear the voices of Marc Luycx, Kathy, Shankar, midst the background sounds of Italy conversing with Mauna plus the few of us who were present for this momentous occasion. Second daily report. We spent Wednesday morning in an experiment in communication set up by Kathy, coordinator of AVI from Auroville. Kathy gave some background of the "Dream Catcher" group in Auroville and the use of Deep Dialogue techniques of passing a "talking stick" (from the Native American tradition) and asked us to give some personal raison d'etre for our connection with AVI and Auroville.

It was a stretch, with over 20 people from seven countries sitting in a circle with only two hours to give a thumbnail sketch of their deep calling, but it worked. At least it worked in achieving what former AVI Treasurer Alain Grandcolas used to measure the success of any of our meetings. Gradually, the atmosphere of the circle deepened. The qualities of honesty, sincerity, transparency and transformation touched and opened our hearts.

On Saturday 14th October at 6.00 pm Indian time (2.30 pm in Rome) AurovilleRadio will broadcast a live interaction between Aurovilians here on site and Aurovilians and other participants present at the Auroville International (AVI) meeting in Formia, Italy.  It is a first ever "live broadcast" from the AVI conference to Auroville, and vice versa. The interaction will start off with Joy and her team, chanting Auroville's mantra from AurovilleRadio's work station in the Town Hall conference room. You are invited to come and participate. May 24th marks the 101st birthday of George Nakashima. Sri Aurobindo gave him the name Sundarananda, 'One Who Delights in Beauty'. His birth centenary year has been honored with the publication of Mira Nakashima's "Nature Form & Spirit: The Life and Legacy of George Nakashima" released by Abrams in 2004. A memorial service was held last year in New HopeCape Town to meet the staff of the Desmond Tutu Peace Center concerning the possible placement of the next Peace Table, and made a presentation for Auroville International South Africa.

Africa-Auroville AVI meeting The Meeting consists of three parts; all are invited to attend it in full or in parts, or during days and sessions of their choice.

Part One, March 17-19:  Introduction to South Africa  through encounters, tour of the towships and community projects, from our base in Lynedoch. Part Two, March 20-24:  Presentations, Interactions, Exchanges  on various themes and topics of the Meeting in Cape Town, based at Schoenstatt Seminar Centre, Constantia. Part Three, March 25-26:  Connecting with nature and each other  time for making ongoing contacts, reflections, rounding off, in the delightful village of McGregor, surrounded by mountains.

The days of the Meeting are conceived to allow an organic flow from topic to topic; ideally each session will build upon and integrate the outcome of the previous ones. In fact, many themes and topics are interconnected and essentially inseparable from one another.

Growing participation of keen and active individuals and organisations, and many calls for interactive exchanges rather than extended passive listening, are shaping this meeting into a “convergence” rather than a conventional conference.  In addition, the richness and variety of topics, with many experts and knowledgeable speakers offering full-length presentations, would simply surpass the time frame of this event.

In the late nineties, Mauna was regularly submitting a report in the Auroville News called "News from the Centres". Kathy would like to revive this idea and more regularly report in the News & Notes the ways that the AVI Centres are holding, nourishing and contributing towards the development of Auroville. She would also like to regularly send to the centres a letter that shares with them the many experiments, initiatives, trials and tribulations of life in Auroville to help build stronger bridges between Auroville and the world to which they are significant portals.

Invitation to participate in preparing Africa-Auroville-AVI meeting in South Africa: Saturday 21st October 2005 at the Unity Pavilion at 4pm. A series of meetings to invite widespread participation of everyone interested and have familiarity with Africa or a particular interest in the challenges and opportunities inherent in living in an ethnically diverse culture for dialogue on these themes are welcome. Topics of the first preparatory meeting on multi-cultural society: • Exploring issues of intercultural interaction in civil society, racial prejudice, and integration • Exploring “unity in diversity” • Exploring the effect of the “truth and reconciliation” process used in South Africa and potential future applications worldwide In the coming weeks, similar opportunities for exchanging ideas on the other topics of education, health, environment and sustainable development, and on any other themes that may emerge will be planned.
