In today's news we're featuring Avigal updating and inviting us to an Earth Day Celebrations which will start with tomorrow's films at Cinema Paradiso in Town Hall, and escalate over the weekend all the way to Earth Day itself on 22nd of April. Tomorrow at Pavilion of Tibetan Culture in International Zone from 4.30pm a group of visitors from Taiwan will share with the community some glimpses of their culture, tradition and food. At 6pm they will give a dance performance of Taiwanese tribal dance, Indian and Belly dance.

Participants, of which all are on daily basis in contact with all those who come to Auroville by different reasons and purposes, sincerely dedicated their time to explore and go through 12 qualities without looking for problems or solutions but merely searching for a useful tool.

The New South Africa Jazz Collective's performance last night at Sri Aurobindo Auditorium, Bharat Nivas, Pavilion of Indian Culture in International Zone thoroughly thrilled all who who have decided to come. Although some of them young, but talented and very much skillful, the members of NSAJC shared with the community some solid jazz standards with its uniqueness of their country of origin - South Africa, and cultural soundscapes of lively rhythms, which have left almost no one remaining siting. ICCR and AV Foundation sponsored the concert.

Extract of an interactive session within Steps Ahead, Sri Aurobindo Centre for Studies-India and the World (Bharat Nivas) held yesterday at Unity Pavilion in International Zone. Interesting session where the discussion revolved around the present state of the International Zone and the possible courses of action. Second part of informative session on if and how Auroville would become a World Heritage Site under UNESCO. Gathered residents yesterday clearly expressed many doubts, and over all was the tone that we still don't know enough to take a clear decision if YES or NO. Decision making process supposed to start this Friday, and end in two week. The fact is that Auroville needs to consolidate and protect the land of the master plan, where green belt is of huge importance. The question would be which price are we prepare to pay?

We're featuring the Mother's voice reading the Charter in in French, broadcasted on 28th of February 1968, announcing to a whole India that new community was born. At that occasion the Mother was sitting in her room in Ashram, and the All India Radio broadcasted her words to the Matrimandir Amphitheater where the inauguration ceremony was in the process. The Mother's voice was at the same time broadcasted all over the India, and that was the birth of All India Radio. Marc Vella offers concert on 26.2. around 6pm at Matrimandir Amphitheater.

Bahh is a Bengali word to express the inexpressible (literally means.."what words?) The group is an expansive collective of instrumentalists, percussionist and vocalists based in the West of Ireland. On their opening song Mattu broke a string on his Sarod but the band soon recovered to wow the big crowd that gathered to listen to them. While the music has its roots in the Indian Classical tradition, the collectives core members bring with them a range of influences and backgrounds. They released their debut album 'Worlds Colliding' in 2010.

Last night event organized by Africa House and Windarra Farm at Unity Pavilion in International Zone was initiated by Isis, volunteer from Benin, currently working with several NGO's, on Agro Ecological Federation of Benin, at Family Jah - Rastafari Community. As Isis has soon found out that in Auroville the presence of African Culture is very poor, she shared with the community pieces of African culture from West Africa. With Windarra Farm team she has put all her energy to provide the dinner, and Yemadas concluded the night with world music. Read more

What have started as invitation to an African Night on Friday 1st of February at Unity Pavilion in International Zone, extended into an open interview about many topics. Isis a volunteer from Benin (former Dahomey) will share within Africa House, Pavilion of African Culture, one of the introductory insights in the form of a talk on "Lost Kingdoms of West Africa". And as she says, when there are Africans is the sharing of festivity and joy, so the evening will continue with sharing of West African meal, and conclude with music.

In this presentation Martine gives an overview of world heritage sites and how they got their status. Which criterion Auroville fits to and the process to get recognition. If the Auroville would get the World Heritage site status from UNESCO that would bring world wide recognition from 190 countries. Along with many benefits it will also provide Auroville with land protection. Some negative aspects would be in influx of tourist. The presentation concludes with a question and answer session.

On Friday last week six members of the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile gave a presentation followed by a Q&A session where Aurovillians was free to post questions to the Parliament members. The Tibetan Parliament is a one month trip in India to raise awareness about the plight of Tibetans with various government officials. Earlier in the day they had a meeting with the Pondicherry government officials. There has been a sharp increase of self immolation's over the past few months with the return of the Dali Lama still in question.

The Auroville Theater Group with visiting director Haiimanot Alemu from Ethiopia put on the stage of Sri Aurobindo Auditorium, Bharat Nivas in International Zone, William Shakespeare's play "Twelfth Night" or "What You Will". This classical comedy was set in 18th century of India by beautiful costumes made by Kiran, although spoken dialogues were kept to the original version of Shakespeare's play, and language. The play is being performed for three nights - tonight and tomorrow as the last performance.

Whole day event of the Africa House-Pavilion of African Culture at Unity Pavilion in International Zone was dedicated to Ethiopia. After simple, yet very delicious, and spicy dinner cooked - supervised by Haimanot Alemu and Taher, community had a chance to learn a bit about Ethiopia. Vani on the behalf of AVI team which organized last year AVI Meeting in Addis Ababa shortly introduced the conference. Evening was concluded by one of Haimanot's film on personal relationships, and invitation to a Shakespeare's play 12th night (7.12. Bharat Nivas)

Whole day event of the Africa House - Pavilion of African Culture at Unity Pavilion in International Zone was dedicated to Ethiopia. And as the day has unfolded, aromatic morning of coffee was followed in the afternoon by the Taher's craft and Marc's coffee painting workshops, and to the delight of audience a Talent Show. Whole day event for the Africa House - Pavilion of African Culture in International Zone was dedicated to Ethiopa. Remembering on this country we cannot avoid coffee. The morning started with aromatic smell of it, burning incense and fresh pop corn - Ethiopian Coffee Ceremony. This was followed by interesting film with some facts and history on coffee. The event is one of the first events which will follow for 12.12.12 , and this one was first presentation on pavilions activities presented in Unity Pavilion in International Zone.

Yesterday the community caught a glimpse of all that was the Auroville Festival: City for Transformation, held at the India International Centre in New Dehli, from 14-21 September. Yesterday, most of the participants again expressed the great joy they had to be part of the festival, and as Aster Patel mentioned at the beginning, all throughout the event, from the day one of organizing until the closing tea ceremony, there was a tremendous feeling of grace. Video clips and images brought the festival back to life in front of our eyes.
