We all live in the houses, and around our houses, many animals find their home in trees, bushes... behind our house is an old cashew tree, and with working tree (Acacia Auriculiformis) are conquering the land contending the Sun to others Tropical Dry Eve-green plants, and as such creating welcoming house for different birds. At sunset you can listen to their daily song, praises and thanks for the past day... and so are we... as neighbors, connected to One.
Here are 10 minutes of sounds at sunset of the different living species bordering the growing forest.

Adhi, born in Edayanchavadi, works in the Botanical Garden, which aims to educate people about local plants and how they remain green even in the dry conditions. He has introduced the use of native species in Auroville rather than exotic plants which need lots of water and maintenance. Local children from 150 government schools in the region come to the botanical garden and are taught about the nursery and alternative energy, plant trees and are encouraged to take plants home to create gardens. There are also attempts to produce and conserve seeds of native Indian vegetables – original heritage seed independent of commercial genetically-modified seed. mp3/2008_10_03_interview_radio_program_toward_sustainability_adhi_botanical_garden_english_ed.mp3&totalTime=9:50 Tuesday, 20 April 2010

Recently, Australian deep-ecologist, writer and singer John Seed was in Auroville. The goal of his workshop called "The Council of All Beings" is to support the re-discovering of one's "ecological self". For AurovilleRadio, John describes a ritual, nowadays called process, of this workshop. He believes that the loss of ceremonies which can nurture our interconnectedness with nature is part of our problem. Deep ecology is based on the shifting away from the reality exclusively in terms of human values. That shift in consciousness is both, cognitive revolution and spiritual awakening. mp3/2009_12_27_interview_john_seed_english_ed.mp3&totalTime=9:49 Read more Friday, 01 January 2010

Last Wednesday, 22nd of April a "Conversation Cafe" on Holistic Food Systems took place at La Terrace. There were not as many participants as had been hoped for, but still a very interesting conversation took place. Some well known Auroville faces such as Krishna, Anandi, Antonio, and Marc (of course) took part as well as some guests and visitors, too. Main theme was a question: Is Auroville really working towards a holistic food system? Or, what could we do to become self sustainable? Enjoy this 45 min. long excerpt of the conversation by clicking PLAY to download it. mp3/2009_04_22_presentation_marc_holistic_food_systems_la_terrace_english_lite.mp3&totalTime=44:15 Thursday, 30 April 2009

“My name is Swamynathan. I studied in Kanchipuram, but I came to the village of Irumbai to work in the temple there, which is actually our family temple. I have been working there for the past four years performing puja. Irumbai temple is a very ancient one. It is said that long ago Thirunanna Sambanther came to this temple, singing a song regarding Kaduvali. In front of the temple there's a Banyan tree, where he had sat in meditation, as for the past year there had been no rain. During that time his only food was the leaves of the Banyan tree.” mp3/2008_07_19_interview_saminathan_kurugal_irubai_temple_tamil_lite.mp3&totalTime=8:33 Monday, 27 April 2009
