Second part of informative session on if and how Auroville would become a World Heritage Site under UNESCO. Gathered residents yesterday clearly expressed many doubts, and over all was the tone that we still don't know enough to take a clear decision if YES or NO. Decision making process supposed to start this Friday, and end in two week. The fact is that Auroville needs to consolidate and protect the land of the master plan, where green belt is of huge importance. The question would be which price are we prepare to pay? Read more

Svaram new home
Aurelio sounded the Ring for the official opening of the new Svaram building. Puja interviewed him about this special day and its significance. He said that this particular building will serve as an exhibition place, storeroom and research space. Besides this Svaram has its first building on the outer ring road,. The new space replaces an old building that burnt down 3 years ago. It represents 1 degree of 360 degrees of the ring, and tries to invoke the original plan of Aruoville to manifest the symbol of the Galaxy plan. Read more

Due to overlapping of events, the General Meeting called by the Residents' Assembly Service is preponed one day, and will take place on tomorrow Wednesday 28th at SAWCHU at 4.30pm . Bamboo Research Project
Pashi made a presentation on possiblilities of growing Bamboo grass using organic fertilizers in Auroville wastelands and shared the experience of cultivating bamboo in different soil and water conditions. He also spoke about biomass being a sustainable source of reliable energy and how bamboo and woody material can be used effectively for generation of energy. He elaborated on the ecological and economic advantages of cloning and culturing Bamboo as against Casuarina which takes far more space and is less productive.

Regenerative Urban Development
Peter Head, Director of Arup and Executive Chairman of Ecological Sequestration Trust, United Kingdom, sheds light on Regenerative Urban Development based on his personal journey. Peter has been to 29 countries analayzing and discussing the issues of achieving more sustainable ways of living . A Civil Engineer by profession, he discussed ways to take some of Auroville's experience and sharing it with the rest of the world and across India besides policies and investments needed in India in fashioning townships to improve quality of life. CIty Services Budget
On August 18 2011 the Budget Coordination Commitee (BCC) had a meeting at Cinema Paradiso. Lyle, a member of the BCC, presented the City Services Budget for 2011/2012. He informed the participants of the budgeting process and demonstrated the total budget and its allocation for the upcoming year. Moreover he gave a comparative resume of the past budget allocations. Upasana Open House
The textile design studio Upasana had opened their doors last Saturday afternoon to welcome the public with tea and snacks. Many came some even from fare to get to know about the inspiring social development projects that have been created here. During this occasion Uma, the founder of this unit, has shared how she has started Upasana in 1997 in a little hut with only one sewing machine and no electricity and how it developed into what it is today.
