One Love

In today's news we are featuring an interview with Balaji, one of the organizers of the 7th edition of the Auroville Marathon. Taking place this Sunday, February 9th, almost 3000 participants are running. Runners come from Auroville, neighbouring villages, the Sri Aurobindo Ashram and from all over India and abroad. The Marathon will start and finish at Auroville Visitor’s Centre. The Future at SAWCHU is on this Saturday at 10am, and in the evening, at 7.30pm, the French Pavilion presents Honore de Balzac at CRIPA. Also: Jazz on Sunday is at 8pm, with the Kranti Quintet, at Bharat Nivas. Read more

YES on Both, The Future

From the feedback regarding the Water Management Service and the priorities for the physical development of the service area, the Residents' Assembly Service registers that the community decided "Yes" on both accounts. On Saturday February the 8th at 10am to 4pm, at SAWCHU, Bharat Nivas, we are invited to "Future of Man Auroville: The Vision - Learning to be", a symposium on Aurovilians inner journey through work and how it may help towards the ‘collective realization. Protection of Auroville Land

Yesterday afternoon, a very well attended first General Meeting, to present to the community the various options identified by the Study Group, was held at the Unity Pavilion, International Zone. Recommendations for the protection of Auroville lands were given. Please do listen to what was communicated regarding the legal and non-legal options that the community is facing. As everyone can see, Auroville is being exposed to frenetic development and land protection is a crucial matter. It seems we can not afford to postpone decisions any longer. Read more

GM, Music and Dance

A GM to discuss options for the protection of Auroville lands is planned for Wednesday at 4.30pm, at Unity Pavilion in the International Zone. On the same day, at 8pm, we are invited to hear the Music Ensemble of Auroville at CRIPA, Kalabhumi. Chloe on flute, Holger on violin, and Nadaprem on viola will surely be giving an excellent classical performance including compositions by Beethoven, Mozart and others. In the same place, on the following day, at 7.30pm we all have the opportunity to hear and see "Earthbeat - A Journey of World Music & Dance" performed by Vanaver Caravan. Read more

NESS Auroville annual  open day

The annual open day in New Era Secondary School (NESS) was a success. Everybody was welcomed to witness the accomplishments of the 9-12th grade students during 2013. The NESS is unique in its attempt to combine Integral Education with the CBSE curriculum program, and they would like to take this opportunity to invite everyone from the community to listen to their presentations and live performances which included a variety of short skirts, dance, poetry and much more! Voting, Spirit of Sufi, Sport

Today, from 10am to 4pm, a Residents' Assembly Decision Making Event takes place at Unity Pavilion (International Zone). On Wednesday, Dr. Karunakara, past international President of 1999 Nobel Peace Prize Recipient "Doctors Without Borders" is coming to Auroville, to cycle and to give a short presentation. On Saturday the 25th, at 8pm, we can witness The Spirit of Sufi Qawwali at Sri Aurobindo Auditorium, Bharat Nivas, Pavilion of Indian Culture, International Zone. Selection Process, Tango

This Saturday, we are invited, at 4pm, to the Unity Pavilion, International Zone, by Entry Service, for a brainstorming session on the different possible ways of being associated with Auroville. The heritage of Hindustani music, Dhrupad, will be sung by Pelva Naik, at 8pm, Sri Aurobindo Auditorium, Bharat Nivas, Pavilion of Indian Culture in International Zone. On the same day, the Auroville Tango group invites us with milonga, at 8.15pm, Visitor Centre. An Auroville International 2014 meeting will take place 13-17th February, and the community is invited. Development Communications

In short interviews with Charles Talcott and Tanya Elder, as well as with Aurovilian Ana, we found out about some interesting presentations held this morning, at the Town Hall Multimedia Centre, by students of two universities; AUP (France) and Linneaus (Sweden). For the last six years they have come to Auroville for a "Sustainable Development Practium". Through interaction with units, services and NGOs in and around Auroville, they create practical solutions in the field of development communications. Within this intensive program students are enriched by some specific lectures and talks from Auroville. Read more

Spandan by Sunnyahmm

Last night, we had the opportunity to listen to the musical performance of Ritu Jain, in Pitanga. She sings and plays as a single person group, Sunnyahmm, attempting to bring music that inspires inner journeys and transitions and helps deepening inner connections in people. ‘Spandan’ is a series of compositions intuitively aligned to take you deep within yourself and helping you touch your innate silence. These compositions deeply resonate with Ritu and at various moments themselves act as a 'Guru', opening up new spaces within. Read more

Sadhana Forest Kabir Music 3

Following two powerful musicians, a third group took to the stage. Playing guitar and singing soft songs, they created a very different energy. The Kabir says "O my heart became a dancer and danced, and when you dance, when you hear the drums of the wisdom of Dhayan and the sounds of bliss beating days and nights, it is so blissful that it spreads even to the land of death". Bindu Narayanaswamy was singing, with Vedanth Bharadwaj playing the guitar on her right side and Shrive on her left side expressing the songs as paintings. Read more

NESS, Pop Rock, Tibet Students

Tomorrow  we are invited to Pitanga at 8pm for Spandam - a music session by Rita Jain. On Saturday a range of events: Open house of New Era Secondary School (NESS), Pop Rock concert with Anna Taj and musicians at the Visitor Centre, and a Krishna Evening at Sri Aurobindo Auditorium, Bharat Nivas, Pavilion of Indian Culture in the International Zone. Sunday sees Kolam Dance and Drawing with Grace, from 9am to 12 noon, in Douceur. On January 13-15th, the Tibetan Students Association of Madras (TSAM) and the Pavilion of Tibetan Culture invite us to the 8th Tibet Festival in Auroville.Read more

Sadhana Forest Kabir Music 2

During the second part of the Sadhana Forest Kabir music festival that took place last Saturday night., we had the great pleasure to listen to Moorala Marwada. A Sufi folk singer from the Janana village of the Kutch District, in Gujarat, India, he sings the poetry of Kabir, Mirabai, Ravidas and others. Sadhana Forest Kabir Music 1

Last Saturday was quite a memorable day for the Sadhana Forest community and all its guests. Having welcomed everyone to celebrate their ten years of existence, they served up numerous activities during the day and late into the night. The place was crowded, especially waiting for the Kabir Music performance. AurovilleRadio was there, of course, recording this great event for you. Sadhana, Piano and Rock

In today's news we are featuring interview with Aviram recorded during the occasion of the 10th year anniversary of Sadhana Forest. Swaha`s  Blues Band

The sun was still blazing on the Youth Centre traditional Christmas fair, this year named "Fair Extraordinaire", when Swaha and her excellent Blues Band took over the stage. Their passion for blues was shared with an excited audience. Later on, in a different set with a more acoustic band, Swaha proved that soul, too, is close to her heart. The fair was in full swing with numerous activities for the young, younger and youngest also, who were tempted with some delicious foods and goodies. Read more

Suryan, Margarita, Krishna...

The excellently amazing and charming voice of Suryan merged with the equally mesmerizing voice of young Italian volunteer Margarita, who has managed to become famous in the community over the past few months. They nailed the audience to attentive listening, dwelling into known and less known songs. Krishna with Francoise, with Tamil party, managed to bring laughter, while Francoise, together with a violinist, took us on a different path and to another space. Rock`n`Roll for the End

The "Fair Extraordinaire" was concluded with Amrit's Rock'n'Roll Band. With some delays, the fair came to a successful end with solid rock'n'roll and interesting lyrics. Kadirvel - Fusion Natureband

Last Friday night, a great musical event was held in Cripa, Kalabhumi: Kadirvel and his intrumental Fusion Natureband.  Accompanied by Sriram on Yuva Veena and by Manikandavan on Thavil, Kadirvel delighted us with their performance. The trio was quite incredible and the hand drum showed an extraordinary ability to create a state of euphoria. It induces a trance that helps to release anger. A real feeling of community, unity and well being was tangible. Kadir is the world record holder for playing Ghatam (South Indian pot) continuously for 26 hours. Read more

”Fair Extraordinaire”

The Youth Centre "Fair Extraordinaire" takes place on Saturday the 28th from 2pm onwards, offering all the fun that the community favors for the holiday season. Today at 5pm, the Pavilion of Tibetan Culture (International Zone) invites us to a rare occasion of the opening of an exhibition prepared by the Tibet Museum unit of the Department of International Relations of the Central of Tibetan Administration (Dharamsala). An Exhibition is a Journey in Exile and also depicts recent situations inside Tibet. It will be on for only four days. Tomorrow Cripa presents “CARNATIC Trio”, at 8pm. Read more

Concrete Jungle Skate park

Uriel took a little time off to inform us about the skate park project that he and Florent are busy undertaking. They want to develop the place into a Concrete Jungle: fun, dance, and sports, also not forgetting the parents that will accompany their kids. Skaters can already access existing facilities. About 20 of them attend on a regular basis. So for the Christmas holidays, tell your kids to come skating!

Ultimate Frisbee Tournament

This weekend, the Auroville Ultimate Frisbee tournament was held. It was the first Auroville tournament where we could see the home teams playing other teams of India. For people new to the sport it was a good occasion to discover this unique game, where men and women compete alongside, in a fair-play attitude. The rules of the sport were explained and what stands out is the fact that there is no referee. Every Monday and Saturday about 40 players practice  at 4:30 PM at Certitude. Read more

The Viziers of Bassora

Last weekend in Bharat Nivas were held three presentations of the The Viziers of Bassora, a play that Sri Aurobindo wrote in 1905, during his stay in Baroda. The manuscript was seized by the police when he was arrested in 1908, and was considered lost until it was discovered in a cupboard and given to the Ashram many years later, after 1950. The source of the plot of The Viziers of Bassora is one of the numerous stories told in The Arabian Nights, entitled “Nur al-Din Ali and the Damsel Anis al-Jalis”. Read more

AV Sustainability Indicators
Auroville Integral Sustainability Institute invited, like last year, 8 post graduate planning students with their Professor from Queen's School of Urban & Regional Planning Canada. They presented their work on AV sustainability indicators yesterday night in MMC. They started some background preparation work in Canada itself and arrived in Auroville 2 Weeks ago for field visit and familiarization with Auroville context.They interacted with many resource persons to get an insight into diverse aspects of community life, issues and challenges. Students on Communication, Frisbee

In today's news we are featuring short interviews made by our volunteer Anahita with students from Linnaeus University  in Sweden. Donna and Johanes talk about their perspectives on work with NGO's in Auroville, for achieving better communication, though their specific assignments remain unknown so far. Sri Aurobindo Auditorium, Bharat Nivas, Pavilion of Indian Culture will host two cultural programs this weekend, on Friday puppet theater, and on Saturday Odissi dance. How Close Are We?

The Pavilion of French Culture shows, at regular intervals, video interviews with Aurovilians who knew the Mother. Screenings take place at Cinema Paradiso, Town Hall. As Rakhal explains, until today 25 interviews have been recorded, with more to be done. Rakhal and Francois Gautier are working on them, and, as Rakhal says, in general it is very touchy to record these testimonial reflections on the past and future development of Auroville. At the same time, the interviews are vivid documents of the growth that has happened.

In today's news we are featuring Michael talking on the second edition of Cafe Auroville, which will

happen tomorrow from 1pm onward, at Unity Pavilion in the International Zone. The second interview is with Balaji on the 7th edition of the Auroville Marathon, which will take place on February 9th, 2014. 3rd GM new selection process

Last night, the third General Meeting on the new selection process for the AV Council and the Working Committee was held, in the new SAIIER building. Although most Aurovilians will agree that changes are needed, not many attended this Questions and Answers session. Therefore, the study group now faces a choice, to: a) Go for a Resident Assembly decision making event, or b) Go through the selection process and to present the newly elected people together with the new process, for the approval of the community. Today, the 3rd GM on the selection process takes place, at 4pm, in the SAIIER building of the Town Hall complex. The University of Human Unity is announcing its winter course schedule, promising an lseminar every Thursday from December 13th until February 27th. This takes place at Savitri Bhavan (International Zone). The first session question: Is Auroville an Eco Village? Rod Hemsell will be presenting The Philosophy of Religion and the Poetry of Sri Aurobindo. On Wednesday at 5pm Alla Duh will close her exhibition at Kala Kendra with a concert by Alberto Sultanov. The inauguration of LATINOAMERIKA will happen on Wednesday at 4.30pm, with a Pachamama ceremony. Read more

Transition Radial, Art

In today's news we are featuring Manickam and Alain from Auroville Road Service talking on the new transition radial in Cultural Zone and Mahakali Park. A two-layered road (debris and blue metal finished with gravel) is supposed to be completed in 10 days and the road will not be paved until 2017. Gallery Square Circle presents ARTRANSLATION, a residents and group show by visiting artists. The inauguration takes place on December 4th, at 4.30pm. On Saturday at Unity Pavilion, at 9 to 12, all Auroville teachers are invited to meet and connect to The Dream. Read more
