Earth Day and live TV
Somehow all the events for the Earth week culminated on Friday night at Visitor Center. It started before the event itself with Earth Day vegan dinner, and soon we heard who are the best cooks in Auroville in preparation of vegan dishes with locally grown products. After the food award ceremony the temperature amongst the audience was rising in anticipation of Academic Genius Brother Show. If we weren't really sure why the name has changed(or maybe hasen't?), the show was clearly different- although still with always present critical humor - we saw trough the concept of news of the Auroville TV Live some good excerpts of daily life and people. Creativity: One Aura One Meal
An extract from an interview with B is featured in today's news; B talks about the concept of replacing money with a symbol, a token; he has named it the 'Aura' and in its symbology it will also act as a reminder of why Aurovilians have come to this City the Earth Needs, as we hold and touch and exchange it for goods required, of the ideals of Auroville. The interview in its entirety can be heard next week. Today is Earth Day! The parade started at 10 a.m. passing through Mahakali Park, entering Town Hall raising a ruckus as a wake-up call for awareness of Mother Earth. Also featured is Mahakali Park in Auroville and like Auroville it belongs to nobody in particular; Nikolai, who brainstormed the concept of the park, says that all are its stewards; so let each one respect her, enjoy her and protect her. As well, a notice for the new book 'The Integral Human Existence in the Words of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother' to be released by author Dr. Karan Singh on Monday at 10 a.m. Read more

The Ugadi Festival
Ugadi or Tamil New Year signifies the beginning of a new year and a new day, the arrival of the spring, new life, new and fresh beginning, vibrancy, life, color, growth, well-being and prosperity. The most significant fact about the festival of Ugadi or Tamil New Year is the fact that the festival comes with a very important and relevant message for all to remember throughout their lives. All the experience that you have, good or bad must be treated with absolute equanimity. Whatever happens through out the year must be taken up calmly and faced gracefully. People should learn to rise above the happiness and sorrows, failure and success. For that occasion will be cultural program at 7.30 pm at Sri Aurobindo Auditorium, Bharat Nivas, Pavilion of Indian Culture with different classical Indian dances and devotional songs. Tomorrow at 5pm at Conference Room in Town Hall L'Avenir d'Auroville will present dis-mountable housing project.

65% of waste is pick up

In the series of seminars about sustainability presented by Living Routes and Auroville Green Center on 11th of November Ing-Marie and B were talking about waste. Lots have been done in last few years and awareness of ecology is rising, so in Auroville 65% of waste is pick up by Eco Service. But Eco Service itself is still facing many challenges – from inadequate infrastructure, insufficient funding, lack of strategy to work as a unit, and receive some funds from the city. Right now the most important, and urgent need is land because there's no adequate landfill for the waste that it cannot be recycle or burn, and need to be land filled.

Roads in Auroville

Martanda is the co-ordinator of the Auroville Road Service work. A young man born in Auroville, he has taken upon himself a work that is both very much needed, appreciated by many and critically questioned by some. Aware of the problems of excessive dust during the dry season countered with mud and puddles during monsoon seasons, Martanda has chosen paver stones as a solution. In an interview, he points out that roads define a city; as all the lands of our city are not yet acquired, the building of its roads remains a challenge on which Martanda continues to work. Aurevan, Smiti, Shrishti and Vinay, students of  various schools in Auroville, created this short program.
