3rd GM new selection process

Last night, the third General Meeting on the new selection process for the AV Council and the Working Committee was held, in the new SAIIER building. Although most Aurovilians will agree that changes are needed, not many attended this Questions and Answers session. Therefore, the study group now faces a choice, to: a) Go for a Resident Assembly decision making event, or b) Go through the selection process and to present the newly elected people together with the new process, for the approval of the community. 3 portraits for one audio book

Ahelia, a 14 year old Last School student, Yam, a 10 year old TLC student, and Jesse, a theater teacher and actor, share a passion for the theater. Here they talk about their lives in Auroville. Some extracts from their new performance, an audio book based on The Water Book, Jalam and Savita's Big Voyage, are given together with the interviews. Written by Sandrine, it is a marvelous journey with the spirit of water, named Jalam and played by Jesse, together with two Indian children. Savita is played by Ahelia and Sindhu is played by Yam. Veena Naadha Pravaham

Last Saturday night, Smt. Jayalakshmi Sugumar gave us a unique performance in the Sri Aurobindo auditorium (Bharat Nivas). She is the grand daughter of veena legend, late Sri. Karaikudi Sambasiva Iyer, founder of the magnificent Karaikudi Bani, and daughter of veena vidushi, late Smt. Sankari Ammal. Having taught in Kalakshetra since 1966, in 1976 Jayalakshmi Sugumar shifted to Pondicherry, where she continued her services until 1981. Following that she worked for the Singapore Indian Fine Arts Society. Read more

Pachamama, Antare

Today, the 3rd GM on the selection process takes place, at 4pm, in the SAIIER building of the Town Hall complex. The University of Human Unity is announcing its winter course schedule, promising an lseminar every Thursday from December 13th until February 27th. This takes place at Savitri Bhavan (International Zone). The first session question: Is Auroville an Eco Village? Rod Hemsell will be presenting The Philosophy of Religion and the Poetry of Sri Aurobindo. On Wednesday at 5pm Alla Duh will close her exhibition at Kala Kendra with a concert by Alberto Sultanov. The inauguration of LATINOAMERIKA will happen on Wednesday at 4.30pm, with a Pachamama ceremony. Read more

Artranslation

These days, the Square Circle Gallery, Kala Kendra in Bharat Nivas (Pavilion of Indian Culture, International Zone) hosts a group of artist from Reunion Island. The ArTranslation collective is a group consisting of four members who all practice different art forms. You can meet the artists on December 12th, at 3pm, in the Gallery Square Circle, Kala Kendra, and talk to them. In this interview, the ArTranslation collective members each, individually, talk to us about themselves and their art. The last day of the exhibition will be December 14th.

Painting on the Wood

Alla Dull is a Russian painter who started to paint on wood three years ago. "The idea to paint on wood came from seeing the Russian Icons", she says. The main subject of her paintings are faces and hands, she continues "The hand is the most personal part of the body. With the hand you can feel every thing". In her paintings one may see different faces, each giving a different feeling. The eyes may be the first thing to attract one in the painting. Alla believes that a persons eyes are connected to reality and always show real emotion. Read more

Veenai Jayalakshmi Sugumar hails from the traditional family of Karaikudi Veena players, known for their true traditional techniques. ArTranslation in Kala Kendra

Christiane and Valerie from the collective ArTranslation talk to us about the project they are undertaking, in Auroville, this month. Aurellll and Cedric complete this collective of artists from the island Reunion, a small French island near Mauritius in the Indian Ocean. Exhibiting in Gallery Square Circle in Kala Kendra, Bharat Nivas, on December 4th to 14th, the opening is on the 4th at 4.30 pm. Personal works will be exhibited whilst the collective is also working outside on a structure made of gathered wood and stones. Read more

Transition Radial, Art

In today's news we are featuring Manickam and Alain from Auroville Road Service talking on the new transition radial in Cultural Zone and Mahakali Park. A two-layered road (debris and blue metal finished with gravel) is supposed to be completed in 10 days and the road will not be paved until 2017. Gallery Square Circle presents ARTRANSLATION, a residents and group show by visiting artists. The inauguration takes place on December 4th, at 4.30pm. On Saturday at Unity Pavilion, at 9 to 12, all Auroville teachers are invited to meet and connect to The Dream. Read more

Modern Jazz Dance

In todays news Margherita invites us to a Modern Jazz Dance Workshop on December 7th and 8th at CRIPA in Kalabhumi. The Study group for Participatory Working Groups & a New Selection Process for the Working Committee and AV Council recently had a joint meeting with the Working Committee, AV Council and RAS. As a result, the participatory event  and 3rd GM on the topic, with a questions and answers session, will be rescheduled. All are invited to Discoveries of Fire tomorrow at 8pm at the Visitor Centre. Collected Poems - Sri Aurobindo
I have rendered a few poems from the book Collected Poems of Sri Aurobindo. I am having a great time discovering the multi-faceted grandeur of Sri Aurobindo's poetic genius. I am interested in sharing with the listeners my voice-adventure of trying to feel and render the poetry of Sri Aurobindo. The poem Bride of the Fire was written on November 11, 1935. The listeners can look forward to more such endeavours in the time to come. I am thankful to AurovilleRadio for letting me experiment. Read more

Participation, Piano Recital

Discoveries of Fire, a Fire and Light performance at the Visitor Centre, is postponed to Friday the 29th at 8pm. On Saturday November 30th, between 10am to 4pm at Unity Pavilion in International Zone, we are all invited to Residents' Assembly Decision Making Event, where the proposal "Participatory Working Groups" and the connected selection process are works in progress. At Pitanga, 30th November, at 8pm, Maestro Biagio Andriulli will perform a Classical Piano Concert. On the same day, at 4pm, Kala Kendra will inaugurate Antare, an exhibition of paintings on old wood by Alla Dulh with a concert by Nadaprem & Aurelio. Read more

Amayama

Malu, Joem and Sebastian, making up the heart of Amayama band, performed  last night, with guests, at the Sri Aurobindo Auditorium, Bharat Nivas, Pavilion of Indian Culture in International Zone. They mesmerized the audience with their music, dance and visuals. Using the power of world music rhythms they managed to connect those present in human unity, as has been done down the ages; leaving almost nobody sitting. Visuals and music appear as result of seeking for truths through spiritual practices, prophets, teachers from dawn to todays ones, such as Ama or Don Miguel Ruiz. Good Show!Read more

Fire, Light, Music

On Saturday and Sunday "Discoveries of Fire" will be performed by 11 Auroville Youth, at 8pm, Visitor Centre. Written by the youth themselves, the performance, through spinning of fire and light, tells the tale of the voyage of fire throughout the history of humanity. At Sri Aurobindo Auditorium, Bharat Nivas, Pavilion of Indian Culture (International Zone), also on Saturday at 8pm, we are invited to see and listen to the Amayama band from Spain. A workshop on the theme of Siddhi Day, under the auspices of the Tamil Heritage Centre and the Arulvavzhi Training Centre, will take place, at 10am to 1pm at SAWCHU, Bharat Nivas. Read more

New Selection Process

Following are the minutes of the 2nd GM on a proposed New Selection Process for the Working Committee and the Auroville Council with a Participatory Working Group Proposal. Due to the rain, the meeting was not well attended. Still, what was exposed was that perhaps a new process will not make the dissatisfaction of the community disappear. It was mentioned, that even the best selection process possible would do nothing until we are ready to tackle the core issues that are burdening the community, causing much passivity and non-participation of its members. Survey on Mobility

In today's news we are featuring teacher Mahavir and students Mira and Chandana from Deepanam School. They are undertaking a survey on mobility for L'Avenir d'Auroville. After observing designated spots at peak hour to collect data, the children will analyse the data using Excel. On Saturday November 16th, at 4pm, Unity Pavilion (International Zone), a second General Meeting on a proposed new Selection Process for the Working Committee and the Auroville Council (Participatory Working Group proposal) will be discussed. Yesterday afternoon, Elvira and Sacha presented, at Unity Pavilion, a new project called Koodam. It aims at finding a new approach to resolving conflict. At the moment, anybody who seeks a solution to a dispute has but one choice: The City Council. Auroville Pioneers: Shyama part 1

Francois and Rakhal have, over three years, interviewed the few Aurovilians who were greatly blessed to meet Mother when she was still in her human body. They put the first stones, and dug the first holes for planting trees, at a time when not much else was there, of Auroville. There are no more than thirty of these Aurovilians still with us and the project aims at preserving their memories for future generations. New” SAIIER building

After many years, and having, since 1984, resided at Bharat Nivas, SAIIER (Sri Aurobindo International Institute for Educational Research), has finally got access to its new office. The official inauguration took place this morning, next to the Auroville Foundation building of the Town Hall complex. SAIIER is the covering umbrella for all education an transport activities and projects in Auroville. Starting with an invocation song by Joy, during the ceremonial Dr. Karan Singh presented gifts to the architect and the builders. The people gathered were also invited to visit the new space. Vedanta Today

Yesterday, Dr. Karan Singh, Chairman of the Governing Board, gave a talk 'Vedanta Today'. Professor Manoj Das of the Sri Aurobindo Ashram presided in the beautifully decorated Sri Aurobindo Auditorium, Bharat Nivas, and introduced Dr. Singh to the audience. Dr. Karan Singh mentioned the origin of, the different aspects of, and the relevance of Vedanta in the world today. Vedanta follows the Veda and completes it. Thomas Lehmen -  A Piece for You

Thomas Lehmen is on a world tour on his motorbike with the project A Piece for You. Following stops in Europe and Central Asia he is currently in India. He is planning to stay in Auroville for three weeks. His project aims to bring creativity and art directly into social life and it deals with the relations between people. He helps individuals create a performance-present for anyone of their choice. Participants work together with Thomas to present an evening of joy and fun, as a present. Inauguration of New SAIIER

In today's news you can listen to Sanjeev on the new building of SAIIER. Founded in 1983, SAIIER has, ever since, been located in Bharat Nivas, Pavilion of Indian Culture (International Zone). Sanjeev also invites the community to participate in tomorrow's inauguration. It will take place at 9.30am at Town Hall, next to the Auroville Foundation, where the new building is located. Selection & Organization Process

Yesterday, a new Organization and Selection Process for the Working Committee and the Auroville Council was presented to the community. The study team gave the presentation at the Unity Pavilion. The Process aims to upgrade the current governance of Auroville, on two levels: Values and Organization. The current draft is available to everyone for feedback. Modifications can be suggested up until the next Resident Assembly meeting, scheduled for November 23rd. Aiming to break with the past and to put the 12 qualities back in the centre, it presents a new approach. Read more

TDC Presentation to Gov. Board

On Friday afternoon, the TDC had organised a presentation in the MMC auditorium. Given by Bankim Kalro, the presentation will also be delivered at the coming Governing Board meeting. An attempt to integrate geophysical reality and social and economic development into the design of the galaxy, the Implementation & Development Phasing Program (IDPP) will be the foundation of the Detail Development Plan. This project is a draft that will go back to the community for feedbacks and it was made clear that ideally more people will get involved with city planing. Read more

Karibu Africa House
Last night Africa House, Pavilion of African Culture in International Zone shared with the community at Unity Pavilion few glimpses of diversity of their culture. Evening started with real Ethiopian Coffee Ceremony with help of Marc, continued by screening of Kirikou, and followed by delicious dinner from Western parts of Africa. Aicha with group of dancers-Sumita, Kash, Esther, Pierre, Christopher, Clapton and Taher brought to us dances from Sudan, Rwanda and Madagascar. Barhat Nivas presents Viraj Amar
