Wood and Hat Tournament
On February 4th and 5th at Certitude and Udavi sports ground we can witness Auroville Hat Tournament 2012 India Ultimate's. Two hundred players from all over will come and test their fitness and improve their skills with an 'Auroville' spirit . The Auroville Hat is the only 'hat' tournament in India, and reflects its spirit of Unity in Diversity. We feature interview with Kumaran about it. Selling or trading it is in fact illegal. Daily Sounds of Chainsaws
Since Cyclone Thane raged over our city almost all of us are busy with cleaning, mostly fallen and broken trees. Many are not waiting for volunteer's help or Tamil paid labor but they started to clean the communities and the surrounding on themselves. For that reason the sound of chainsaw is our everyday soundscape . Juan, the professional chainsaw user, offered this morning at Town Hall a useful practical demonstration of its use, shared some safety tips and answered on practical questions of quite many chainsaw users. AV Cyclone Response Team strongly request the cooperation of all residents regarding handling of Auroville's wood and timber. They're asking us NOT TO SELL AUROVILLE WOOD OR EXCHANGE IT FOR LABOR. All Auroville wood, or its value, will eventually be utilized to rebuild Auroville. We should understand that if one choose to sell or exchange Auroville wood on his own, one cannot expect reimbursement for rebuilding costs such as clearing, ... After Cyclone Priority
The Working Committee member Daniel talks about the rehabilitation work happening in Auroville after the Thane cyclone. The most urgent matter is the restoring of the electricity since Auroville depends 100% on water pumped by the borewells. The electrical distribution lines are totally destroyed. About 150 electrical poles are broken and only 50 of them are available. It is estimated that the recovery of electrical power in all the different communities will take around one month. Emergency for cyclone

On Friday December 30, cyclone Thane hit the states of Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry with heavy rains and wind speeds of up to 135 kmph (83 mph) and tidal surges of up to 1.5 metres (5 feet). The cyclone hit the coast from Chennai to Karaikal. The Villupuram district is among the worst hit as the cyclone epicenter was close to Pondicherry. Cyclone Thane first report
Dear friends, sorry for the 3 days long silence but Auroville has no power and very unstable telephone & Internet connections since the 30th. We switched off all systems to protect the equipment. From Monday we'll cover extensively the Thane Cyclone's effects in the region. Auroville suffered damages but not people died or get injured. Bamboo Awareness
Since 2009 world is celebrating, in order to raise awareness of versatile and sustainable aspects of bamboo, World Bamboo Day. Auroville celebrated it with numerous events, workshops. What had started as bamboo dinner at Visitors Centre past Saturday, was followed by unique fashion show made by Kiran and Lea out of bamboo fabric. This year's theme Flower Power was truly in joyful and fresh approach in bright colors and one of the kind cuts, all in loving mood.
