One Love

In today's news we are featuring an interview with Balaji, one of the organizers of the 7th edition of the Auroville Marathon. Taking place this Sunday, February 9th, almost 3000 participants are running. Runners come from Auroville, neighbouring villages, the Sri Aurobindo Ashram and from all over India and abroad. The Marathon will start and finish at Auroville Visitor’s Centre. The Future at SAWCHU is on this Saturday at 10am, and in the evening, at 7.30pm, the French Pavilion presents Honore de Balzac at CRIPA. Also: Jazz on Sunday is at 8pm, with the Kranti Quintet, at Bharat Nivas. Read more

YES on Both, The Future

From the feedback regarding the Water Management Service and the priorities for the physical development of the service area, the Residents' Assembly Service registers that the community decided "Yes" on both accounts. On Saturday February the 8th at 10am to 4pm, at SAWCHU, Bharat Nivas, we are invited to "Future of Man Auroville: The Vision - Learning to be", a symposium on Aurovilians inner journey through work and how it may help towards the ‘collective realization. Tomorrow, Friday January 31st, a Residents' Assembly Decision-making Event takes place at the Solar Kitchen. From 10am to 4pm, one can have a say regarding a) the proposal to convert the Water Maintenance Service (WMS) to a 'true service' and b) the priorities for the physical development of the Service Area. EARTHBEAT - A Journey of World Music & Dance with Vanaver Caravan, can be enjoyed tonight at 7.30pm at Cripa,  Kalabhumi. The play "Madwomen of Chaillot" by Jean Giraudou will be on during three evenings in February, dates being 1st to 3rd. GM, Music and Dance

A GM to discuss options for the protection of Auroville lands is planned for Wednesday at 4.30pm, at Unity Pavilion in the International Zone. On the same day, at 8pm, we are invited to hear the Music Ensemble of Auroville at CRIPA, Kalabhumi. Chloe on flute, Holger on violin, and Nadaprem on viola will surely be giving an excellent classical performance including compositions by Beethoven, Mozart and others. In the same place, on the following day, at 7.30pm we all have the opportunity to hear and see "Earthbeat - A Journey of World Music & Dance" performed by Vanaver Caravan. Read more

Wholistic Business Networking

Last Wednesday, on December 11th, Sandhi Spieres organized "Auroville Networking Night". Having founded the "Wholistic Business Network" in 2002, Sandhi Spieres is a counselor, trainer and speaker who has organized many international workshops and meetings. He notes that nowadays people understand the importance of being at a right place and meeting right people. This Networking Night is about helping people to create the personal connections that they are looking for in their lives. This may also help the communication of the residents of Auroville. Today, the 3rd GM on the selection process takes place, at 4pm, in the SAIIER building of the Town Hall complex. The University of Human Unity is announcing its winter course schedule, promising an lseminar every Thursday from December 13th until February 27th. This takes place at Savitri Bhavan (International Zone). The first session question: Is Auroville an Eco Village? Rod Hemsell will be presenting The Philosophy of Religion and the Poetry of Sri Aurobindo. On Wednesday at 5pm Alla Duh will close her exhibition at Kala Kendra with a concert by Alberto Sultanov. Veenai Jayalakshmi Sugumar hails from the traditional family of Karaikudi Veena players, known for their true traditional techniques. Modern Jazz Dance

In todays news Margherita invites us to a Modern Jazz Dance Workshop on December 7th and 8th at CRIPA in Kalabhumi. The Study group for Participatory Working Groups & a New Selection Process for the Working Committee and AV Council recently had a joint meeting with the Working Committee, AV Council and RAS. As a result, the participatory event  and 3rd GM on the topic, with a questions and answers session, will be rescheduled. All are invited to Discoveries of Fire tomorrow at 8pm at the Visitor Centre. Participation, Piano Recital

Discoveries of Fire, a Fire and Light performance at the Visitor Centre, is postponed to Friday the 29th at 8pm. On Saturday November 30th, between 10am to 4pm at Unity Pavilion in International Zone, we are all invited to Residents' Assembly Decision Making Event, where the proposal "Participatory Working Groups" and the connected selection process are works in progress. At Pitanga, 30th November, at 8pm, Maestro Biagio Andriulli will perform a Classical Piano Concert. On the same day, at 4pm, Kala Kendra will inaugurate Antare, an exhibition of paintings on old wood by Alla Dulh with a concert by Nadaprem & Aurelio. Read more

Starting today and lasting until Thursday, every day at 5-7pm, we are invited to attend a series of open information meetings at Unity Pavilion (International Zone). These will deal with: a Proposed New Selection Process for the Working Committee and the Auroville Council and with The Participatory Working Group Proposal. On Nov 23rd and 24th, at 8 pm, Visitor Center, we are invited to a Fire & Light spinning performance. General Meeting Entry process

Yesterday a General Meeting was held at SAWCHU, Bharat Nivas. A new entry process proposal, as asked for by the community during the Open Platform meetings. Santo introduced the "3 steps Entry process", based on faith and trust. The project was clearly introduced during the meeting. Personal Commitment

Freek Schiphorst, one of four board members of Stichting de Zaaier, is currently visiting Auroville together with Martine Busek and Jan-Willen Pieterson. Here we interview him. After briefly introducing Zaaier, Freek explains that the Auroville visit is an exploration of what is happening here, not an evaluation mission. Especially for him and Jan-Willen, who are here for the first time, the aim is to get a "feeling" of what is going on. Freek has been deeply moved by the Auroville youth, and by the personal commitment of community members.

Land Exchange, Entry

On Wednesday, October 23rd, we are invited by LMTF to a 2nd General Meeting regarding a land exchange proposal involving the North Eastern Greenbelt. This will take place at 4pm at the Unity Pavilion (International Zone). On Friday the 25th, at 4.30pm, the Entry Task Force would like to present their new proposal for the entry process, this too at the Unity Pavilion. The proposal is in response to a request from the community during the Open Platform meeting on Entry. Also on Friday, at 7.30pm Genius Brothers will present Classik Stuff at the Visitor Centre, followed by an 8.30pm Unity Pavilion A Lo Latino concert featuring Dondieu Divine on keyboards.Read more

Community Involvement
Yesterday's workshop to design methodologies to involve the community in the progress of Auroville held at the Unity Pavilion in IZ with the Town Development Council/ L'Avenir d'Auroville Advisory Group has brought some hope and clarity to the participants. At the same time the plan of the members of Advisory Group was to really actively involve Aurovilians to participate. Observations of TAG were summarized that we do need people, land, structure and a new economy (new form of organization) as a frame to achieve material realization. Read more

On Monday 15th at 4pm at Unity Pavilion in International Zone we will follow at the open platform the story of simplification of Entry Process along with all the other topics that this brings with it. The Working Committee and the Auroville Foundation announce for those who haven't yet got their Auroville ID cards done that the second phase of issuing ID cards will start from 15th of July up to 15th August 2013. Study Group on Protection
Today 4.30pm at Unity Pavilion is 2nd GM on Water Maintenance Service since the parties involved couldn't present a proposal on how to run Auroville Water Maintenance Service as one Service Unit and as one team. Two proposals will be presented. The Working Committee has posted a request for a Study Group on protective status for Auroville with several ideas. AV Film Festival invites us to create an art installation for the AV Film Festival '13.  The challenge would be to create something out of organic, natural material or of waste. Read more

Updated FAMC Mandate Q&A session

Here's the official call for the meeting recorded yesterday at the Unity Pavilion.

"The Auroville Council and the RAS invite you to bring your updated FAMC mandate-related questions to a question and answer Q&A session with members of the FAMC on proposed changes to the FAMC mandate. The draft mandate was published by the AVC in the N&N [491] 23 March 2013, with a request for feedback, and is attached at the end of this week's issue of News&Notes for your consideration again in the lead-up to Wednesday's meeting."

Bridging a Widening Gap

Maybe it was coincidence but many Aurovilians came together on the Labour Day to discuss about the increasing gap between the working groups and the residents of Auroville. This gap is steadily increasing, and since few months one of the most important of Auroville's working groups (the Working Committee) is not able to function properly. Despite the heat the meeting was well attended and many residents expressed their concerns. Another meeting will follow to begin the 'healing process', and the sense of optimism was present.
