Resonance by Michel Nicolet
The exhibition Resonance by Michel Nicolet is open for other four Sundays at Petite Ferme, Auroville. The sculptor Michel Nicolet is showing us a remarkable set of objects. One could say that his presentation consists of three parts: his words, his drawings and his sculpture. The drawings, being two dimensional, appear to be a study towards a special kind of three dimensionality. In the interview (in French) Michel tells us about his life paths and connections, which draw him to Auroville and, through cymatics, to this exhibition. Read more

The Secret of `Strokes and Dots`
Pierre Legrand's very joyful art is an expression of his deep feelings, his happiness, his problems and also his love in every being. He has developed his own mathematical rules and a secret alphabet to transform poetry into paintings. Prayers to the Mother, mantras, inner thoughts and different emotions are turned into colorful strokes and dots and every painting has its own meaning. 'The real work is our transformation.' What does Pierre mean by that? What does he think about painting? And finally: What is art? Read more

Bubasteion
Pierre Veillat shared with us in Svedam some facts and interesting stories about French archaeological mission of Bubasteïon, Saqqara in Egypt where in 70ies they discovered five exceptional tombs of the new empire. In contemporary papyrus documents the area was known as the Bubasteion, or cult-place of the cat goddess Bastet. But Alain Zivie French archeologist realised that originally these galleries had been made as tombs for the high officials of New Kingdom Memphis. Over the years, his team emptied about 15 of these hypogea which are distributed on two levels in the cliffs. Two of these tombs date to the Old Kingdom, the others range in date from the reign of Hatshepsut to that of Merenptah. Read more

What is actually hip hop? In the conversation with Drupad at Youth Center we talked about that. Many times is wrongly mistaken by gangsta rapping but basically is hip hop defined by five key stylistic elements rapping , DJing andscratching, sampling , beatboxing and dancing. They're saying that Hip hop began in the South Bronx of New York City in the 1970s. And we found out what that got to do with the Youth Center. Read more

Unique glimpses

A very special exhibition was inaugurated in Tibetan Pavilion on sunday by three young Aurovillians. Claude, who is the driving force behind it, realized after the talk with his Holiness the Dalai Lama, that this is something he got to do, and he had to do it in a unique way. On 25 panels starting with ancient history of Tibet, which is to most of us unknown, are glimpses of Tibetan history through several millenniums. All the panels are enveloped somehow with two thangka paintings which his Holiness the Dalai Lama presented signed by him for this exhibition. Going trough all the panels and watching the two beautiful thangka paintings one remains speechless... as though all questions where answered. Read more

Who is Ganesh?

Without doubt Ganesh is one of the most popular deities in India, and all over the world. Either for his kindness and qualities of a god who's beneficiary in many cases or because of his interesting and cuddly figure of full belly being with elephant head and four arms... however, Lord Shree Ganesh is a god of knowledge and the remover of obstacles. He is worshiped or at least remembered in the beginning of any auspicious performance for blessings and auspiciousness. He has four hands, elephant's head and a big belly. His vehicle is a tiny mouse. A unique combination of his elephant like head and a quick moving tiny mouse vehicle represents tremendous wisdom, intelligence and presence of mind.

Valentines Day in Auroville was packed with events and the gallery at the Tibetan Pavilion was not exempt to this on Saturday. Lourdes Malpica, Ka-ti Deslandes, Christian Fette, Hufreesh Dumasia and Audrey Wallace Taylor have been communally creative during a one week period of the Women Artists Camp initiative. Synergy Shakti is the name of the art which resulted from these women unfolding their creative processes together in the same space in the period of a few days. The drive behind the camp was the thirst of these contemporary female artists to empower and inspire each other in one nurturing space.

Beauty is the presence of the divine in the physical, Mother has said. When Loretta first came to the Ashram in the 1970s, she was touched by the spirit of beauty and the exhibitions there. To share the spiritual power of these experiences with Auroville, Loretta presented several photographic exhibitions of Mother and Sri Aurobindo in the last years. For AurovilleRadio, Loretta describes how the current show “Mother and Flowers” in Savitri Bhavan was brought to life. She appreciates the cooperation with and the dedication of Aurovillians, guests and Ashramites who supported her. The exhibition is open 10.00 am – 5.00 pm daily until 9th of March.

Drawing Meditation - Kolam

In the second program of the series 'Experience Tamil Culture' one can know more about an ancient Indian meditation. The Kolam is a drawing done every day in the space in front of the house. Much more than simple beautiful patterns, kolam is a prayer to welcome the sun god, the good spirits and also the friends. Only women are allowed to do this early morning ritual, the knowledge of which passed from mother to daughter for generations. One can create a lot of different designs, but the tradition requires it to be done bending all the body (as in yoga asanas) and to use white rice powder (a symbolic way to provide food to the ants and insects). Seven people talking about art

During the pioneering days of Auroville the accent was on planting trees, growing food and simply surviving.  Interest in and time to create art was a luxury not yet existant in Auroville. Today art finds its place in the consideration of  Aurovilians. Collective work in an individual expression of creation? Agnus, Anna Maria, Henk, Hufreesh and Nele will exhibit their work in Bombay (Mumbai) at Cymrosa Art Gallery from the 19th to the 29th of September. In the interview they can be heard along with two journalists: Daniel of AurovilleRadio and Priya of Auroville Today.
