Every year the commemorative music festival Tyagaraja Aradhana is held at Thiruvaiyaru in Tyagaraja's honour. This is a week-long festival of music where various Carnatic musicians from all over the world get together with their veenas, violins, flutes, nagasvarams, mridangams and ghatams.

Wednesday, 25 January 2012 (Arts & Culture) Last Friday 13th of January, the musician Jean Christophe Bonnafous from France offered an Indian Classic Flute concert in ARKA. Many guests, new comers and Aurovillians came to enjoy this music exhibition. On this opportunity Tugay Basar from Turkish join Jean Christophe with a flute solo and a shared improvisation between both musician at the end of the concert.

I was in India! It was the beginning of my travel, that would take me to Goa, Hampi, Mysore, Nagercoil, Kanyakumari, Madurai and Kodaikanal, to arrive in Auroville december 28th, two days earlier than cyclone Thane. Monday, 09 January 2012 (Environment) You can hear Prya of Buddha Garden (Auroville), and the village head of Morattandi about their reactions to the cyclone Thane. Although separated by only 5km, their way of coping with the storm is quite different. Morattandi, a village of 2000 inhabitants southwest of Auroville, is still struggling to get the electricity and water supply working again. Buddha Garden, a sustainable farm with solar panels, is up and running again. The village head of Morattandi is giving the interview while giving directions to workmen fixing an electricity pole.

Aster Patel opened with Sri Aurobindo's Cosmic Consciousness, after the greetings from Choi ChangGeun and Sarasija. And that poetry doesn't know the boundaries was clear after listening melodic poems in Korean language without really cacthing the meaning but understanding the beauty of written word.

Monday, 26 December 2011 (Arts & Culture) Bahauddin Mohiuddin Dagar, who hails from the renowned Dagar family, represents the 20th Generation of the Dagar parampara of the Dagarbani school of Music. He performed at the Bharat Nivas auditorium in Auroville on December, 17th to an enthralled audience. The concert was much sought after as Dagar is a master of a rare musical instrument Rudra Veena. This style of music is part of an ancient tradition of India. Read more Thursday, 22 December 2011 (Arts & Culture) Bahauddin Mohiuddin Dagar is a 40 year old renowned Rudra Veena player and son of famous north Indian musician Zia Mohiuddin Dagar. He plays with the Dagarbani style and his lineage can be traced to to eight generations, to Baba Gopal Das, who converted to Islam, and became Baba Imam Baksh in the 18th century. At the age of 12 he started training under his father. and uncle Zia Fareeduddin. He started performing at the young age of 20. Wednesday, 31 August 2011 (Spirituality) On Saturday, 14th August, a memorial gathering was held in Savitri Bhavan dedicated to Syam Sundar who recently passed away. Shyam Sundar was appointed by the Mother as the secretary of Auroville affairs and was involved in the township project from the very beginning. About thirty Aurovilians and fifteen Ashramites gathered in Savitri Bhavan to pay tribute to Shyam Sundar. After a short meditation, several friends spontaneously shared their reminiscences of Shyamsunder, who had taken significant roles in his lifetime.

Feeling the music is the most essential aspect of appreciation, learning and playing. Raags are names of feelings, when played right, they create a perceivable image for the listener. Recognition of notes is a process that takes time and experience and is a milestone to reach. Musicians not only hear sounds but also hear the parallel structures of the notes, but it does not come easy.

Thursday, 11 August 2011 (Arts & Culture) Uday Bhawalkar performed Rag Lalith in his morning concert at White Hall, Bharat Niwas. The hour-and-half long rendition enraptured the audience. He was accompanied on the Pakawaj by Pratap Awadh and on the Tanpura by Sagar and Jaisingh. Uday was born in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. He began training in Hindustani classical music from his elder sister. His love for the music led him to one of the most prolific figures in the ancient Dhrupad, Ustad Zia Mohiuddin Dagar and his elder brother, Ustad Zia Mohiuddin Dagarsahab.

Tuesday, 09 August 2011 (Arts & Culture) Uday Bhawalkar started his rendition at Pitanga Cultural Centre with Rag Pooriya, an evening Rag. This was followed by another Rag after a short interval. The rendition was performed in two specific parts Alap and Bandish. He is one of India's foremost exponents of Hindustani vocal music in the Dhrupad tradition, the oldest existing form of Indian classical music. The nature of this music is spiritual and is based more on a sense of worship than entertainment. The music did induce a feeling of peace and contemplation in the listener.

Visitors impulses were rattled by the list of songs and overlapping genres of the diverse performance filled with talent and humor. Our dear friend Gino also used the opportunity to unveil his love for percussion. His rhythmic and restless hands ensured an upbeat flow of the evening. Enjoy the ranging aptitude of guitarist and singer Jasleen from New Delhi and Girish from Bangalore, percussionist and Aurovillian Gino and body percussionist Nachi from Tamil Nadu. From Punjabi, Hindi, French, English, Traditional and Pop, there is a little piece for everyone to love and cherish.
Friday, 13 May 2011 (Spirituality) In a new building at Bharat Nivas Dr. Aster Patel introduced Dr. Karan Singh at the presentation of a newly released publication entitled 'The Integral Human Existence'. This book basically speaks of the teachings of Sri Aurobindo in the light of his words regarding the problems faced in the ordinary life of humanity. And the solutions. Monday, 25 April 2011 (Arts & Culture) Almost a hundred kids have been preparing since weeks to be ready for the show on Tamil New Year evening celebration,Thursday 14th of April 2011, at the Sri Aurobindo Auditorium, Bharat Nivas, Pavilion of Indian Culture. Nine groups of children presented eleven performances to welcome the coming Tamil "Kara" year. Two devotional songs were song by children from Meera women's group and a live music was prepared by Balu for devotional purposes of the Mother to end the evening. Thursday, 14 April 2011 (Spirituality) What is it? It's a healing method, which descends through the layers of the heart, finally reaching the place to access supreme Divine Love within the body. Thereby healing can occur. And conscious evolution can occur. The word 'hladina' is derived from the Sanskrit word Hladini. In his book, The Mother, Sri Aurobindo describes Hladini as a powerful ecstasy which flows from supreme Divine Love. At Widarra Farm Small Wind Turbine Design and Construction Workshop will be held from 9 - 12 April, and the second one in the last week of April to 1st of May.
