Protection of Auroville Land

Yesterday afternoon, a very well attended first General Meeting, to present to the community the various options identified by the Study Group, was held at the Unity Pavilion, International Zone. Recommendations for the protection of Auroville lands were given. Please do listen to what was communicated regarding the legal and non-legal options that the community is facing. As everyone can see, Auroville is being exposed to frenetic development and land protection is a crucial matter. It seems we can not afford to postpone decisions any longer. Read more

Community Decisions

On Wednesday October the 30th at 4.30pm, the community is invited to a General Meeting to discuss the status of Ramesh Ramalingam. This GM will take place at the Unity Pavilion, International Zone. The following Wednesday, Nov 6th, also at 4.30pm, we are again invited to a GM at Unity Pavilion, during which the proposed New Organization and Selection Process for the Working Committee and the Auroville Council will be presented. On Tuesday November 5th, finally, there will be a Residents' Assembly Decision-Making Event to ratify/refuse the proposal, whereby people can turn up at any time between 10am to 4pm to vote.  Read more

GM on Land Exchange #2

Yesterday, a second General Meeting on a land exchange proposal concerning the North Eastern Greenbelt was held at the Unity Pavilion (International Zone). Organised by the LMTF, the meeting was divided into two parts. First Fabian, on behalf of the LMTF, again presented the current situation. Supported by maps, he clearly indicated the areas for possible exchange and development. In the second part, the members of the community had a chance to express their feelings and concerns, and to ask questions in order to clarify anything unclear or confusing to them. GMs and Garba Dance

For Navratri, on Friday and Saturday 11-12th October, visit SAWCHU in Bharat Nivas (Pavilion of Indian Culture), International Zone at 7.30pm. Navratri festival celebrates the veneration of the three goddesses Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswati. The LMTF is inviting the Community to a follow-up meeting regarding a large land-exchange proposed for Auroville's North Eastern Greenbelt, this is on Tuesday the 15th at 4pm, Unity Pavilion, International Zone. The Working Committee is organizing a General Meeting on Entry Exit policy on Wednesday the 16th at 5pm, also at the Unity Pavilion. Read more

What Auroville Needs?
Yesterday's very well attended General Meeting on proposed large land exchange in North Eastern Greenbelt by The Land Matters Task Force (LMTF) clearly showed that the decision will not be easy. Members of community are divided by which way to follow - either trust to an logical explanations or to follow heart while deciding on such an important matter as it is large land exchange or land sale. As somebody commented - "we really need to go within to derive to the common conclusion what would be the best for Auroville"... Read more

It is believed that Lord Ganesh bestow his presence on earth for all his devotees during this festival. It is the day when Ganesha was born. Ganesha is widely worshiped as the god of wisdom, prosperity and good fortune and traditionally invoked at the beginning of any new venture or at the start of travel. Community Involvement
Yesterday's workshop to design methodologies to involve the community in the progress of Auroville held at the Unity Pavilion in IZ with the Town Development Council/ L'Avenir d'Auroville Advisory Group has brought some hope and clarity to the participants. At the same time the plan of the members of Advisory Group was to really actively involve Aurovilians to participate. Observations of TAG were summarized that we do need people, land, structure and a new economy (new form of organization) as a frame to achieve material realization. Read more

What`s Up AuroAnnam?
AuroAnnam Farm is among Auroville's oldest parcels of land. Most recently it was a demonstration site for organic cashews. Mawite has been caring for AuroAnnam and putting energy into making it a lively yet peaceful green entryway into Auroville. There is a question whether Auroville will keep the land or exchange it, making future plans for the place somewhat tenuous. Hear Mawite explain the situation at AuroAnnam on Earth Day weekend - first with a walk around the land and chant led by Kaya, then a presentation back at the Farmers' Cafe. Read more

Meet the Governing Board
A community interaction with the Governing Board happened on Saturday 6th of April at 6.00 pm in SAWCHU. A good number of residents came to meet with Dr Karan Singh (chairman of the Auroville Fundation) and the members of the Governing Board. The discussion was open by a short introduction by the chairman Dr. Karan Singh. During the meeting the residents spoke about internal issues and policies to protect the development of Auroville. Later on on most of the participants attended to the community dinner at Solar Kitchen. Read more

Agenda or Not Agenda?
Featured are minutes of yesterday's General Meeting at Unity Pavilion in International Zone which was very well attended. Proposed agenda was about Working Committee sharing agenda points fro the upcoming Governing Board, which they have received from the Secretary's office : 1. process for procedure for selection of WC. 2. suggestions on term&mandated for the WC. 3.process&procedure for constituting various working groups of the RA.4. suggestions on securing land for the Master Plan&manifesting the city. Hunger Strike Against Bullying
Today's news features an excerpt of the interview with Jan about his hunger strike to stand up to the bullying in Auroville. He began the hunger strike in direct response to the issue that happened at Svaram last week. Hunger strike against bullying
Jan, long time Aurovillian decided last week to embark on a hunger strike to speak out against intra-community bullying. Jan says that the recent events at Svaram have instigated him to do some action of protest, and his action of choice is abstaining against food. Please listen to what he has to say, detailing the events of last week's Svaram rampage and Jan's perspective and reaction. He says this is a bigger issue in Auroville, which could be solved if a monitoring committee were to be formed. Read more

Bridging the Polarities: Mobility
B and Luigi are at it again, with more synergy than ever. This week we've invited Mita from Centre Field to come and talk about her community's reservations to the extension of the crown road. A very productive meeting, in which we were able to see beyond past traumas and stay in the collective energy to bridge polarities. Mita brought forth the concern that we need to take a deeper approach in looking at the Galaxy model and revive powerful ideas which have diffused, namely the Dreamcatchers proposal, to be revisited in forum later this month. Luigi stresses the point that the lake water will be sourced from either rainwater harvesting, or through the use of desalinized water. Transparency, Alternative Housing
For many participants the proposed agenda for the Values and Priorities meeting no. 4, was not really acceptable; on Restriction to Entry, when we should have examined the proposal for outlying lands be converted into resources to buy land within the Master Plan Area (in order to develop affordable houses) the meeting concluded after more than two hours of lively discussion. It was clear that we need to explore further the costs of present construction, which seems to be blown up; let's come up with concrete plans for alternative housing. Read more

LRD on Outlying Lands
At yesterday's 3rd Collective Priorities and Values Meeting organized by the RAS, Pashi and Luigi from Land Resource Development team presented a proposal on outlying lands, which was a request from the previous meeting. After a few years of intensive research, mapping, and collecting data on the spot (along with many consultations from outside experts) Luigi and Pashi presented quite a concrete plan, business-oriented with applied Auroville values. A debate went on afterwards that expressed feelings and views of various residents. Read more

Mother`s Presence, Working Groups
Second in series Collective Priorities Meetings as part of the Collective Priorities Project started with anticipation, light spirit and some laughter. The need and spirit of change is present in the community, and as we saw meetings do slowly chisel out from the vague cloud what we value, what we need to do, and how to approach it. Although meeting itself was swinging from concrete reality to spirituality, participants came to the conclusion to invite working groups in order to find out what the reality of their work is, and what we can do. In their last two months of activity the Auroville Council has been busy mainly with complaints related to territory issues : extensions of fences leading to disputes among Aurovilians, misuse of AV assets, non authorized construction on AV lands or by Aurovillians on their family land inside the Master Plan area. If ownership is becoming the main achievement then we are drifting away form the dream of a more conscious society. Fish Bowl Dialogue
Yesterday's facilitated exchange organized by RAS at Unity Pavilion started with umbrella question - What question, if that question would be answered, would a neighbor ask as a community to agree on a shared way forward, and how to plan and build Auroville City? - which was meant to invite more questions, and not so much solutions and answers. Whole exchange was in a form of Fish Bowl Dialogue, which brought faster, and lighter dynamic to the meeting itself.
