Following on from the discussion series facilitated by the Auroville Council and Resident's Assemble Service earlier this year, the Council has invited all community members to a General Meeting to discuss the the benches and pathways beneath the Matrimandir banyan tree and how we make decisions as a community in Auroville. The meeting was held in SAWCHU on the 3rd of September. The discussion was vibrant and in some parts the emotional side came up. Anyway the interaction was conductive and some sort of results came up at the end. Jesse chaired the meeting. Here the 2 hours and 14 minutes recording of the full meeting.

Today's news features an excerpt from an interview with Uma of Upasana on Silk; research and the resultant book are nearing completion which presents the humble beginnings of silk and the various processes of how it becomes silk as the world knows it. The interview in its entirety can be heard next week. Also a reminder for a General Meeting at 5 PM today at SAWCHU, topics twofold: the ongoing discussion around Matrimandir's Banyan, those benches and pathways beneath it and, more dialogue on how we make decisions as a community in Auroville. Not many visitors from Iran come to Auroville. We had a chance to met Dr. Bijan Vala, who told us that fate has brought him here, and he would like to get involved and be active mostly on the field of expressive arts such as music and theater. He sees Auroville as an example of good thoughts, which proved that dreams can turn into reality, and yet he's aware that in the process problems do arise. He likes the Love, The Dream, Matrimandir,... For him the beauty of Matrimandir is that there's nothing religious about it, everybody is left to his/her own thoughts. Read more

Over then phone we spoke with Jaya about yesterday's meeting at Unity Pavilion of members of International Zone. Tuesday, 24th of August and in the area still feels like monsoon time is here. This morning meeting of L'Avenir d'Auroville with new ideas and designs, which developed in a lively discussion will be publish on net in next days. Tonight you can see an Italian movie Due Partitie, and tomorrow afternoon in the Town Hall is meeting for all who would like to do something useful for the community and for the safety of us all, and are healthy and physically fit, are patient and always cool, responsible and reliable, can respond adequately in a crisis situation, and would like to join the team of volunteers to address the security issues in the area.

Tuesday, 17th of August, and in Auroville is partly cloudy but still very pleasant, and with many things to do. The same we way we can hear the constant hammering of the workers of nearby project of Inspiration, road...L'Avenir of Auroville and Forest Group had a meeting this morning. What are the opening hours of Matrimandir, and which movie we can see tonight? AT 4.30 pm at Visitor Center at bookshop of Auroville Papers there will be a release of coloring book Bauhinia, A Tree who Wanted to be an Orchid, with the drawings and text by Marie and the graphic design by Leonard, and printed paper specially made by Auroville Papers.

As it is a custom, when the days of festivals, celebrations are near, events are also piling up, and in those days its actually hard to choose where you would like to be. Tonight we can choose between ethnic chanting in a circle at Verite Hall with Ana, Tiago and friends, or harp meditation and mystic words of Rumi offered by Antarjyoti, or we might see a Spanish movie in Cinema Paradiso. In the conversation with Nicolai we heard some news about Youth Center. Sri Aurobindo's birthday on Sunday 15th of August, which is also India's Independence Day will be celebrated on Friday, Saturday, with different programs and offerings and of course on Sunday with early morning bonfire and with program at Bharat Nivas at 8am.

The news in English today is about the opposing viewpoints concerning Matrimandir's Garden of Unity, specifically beneath the Banyan Tree; the recent installations, the reactions to those installations and the ensuing controversy. The next step in all this is a proposed General Meeting sometime in July or August. Also in the news there are a few announcements: teachers needed for Future School, Capoeira has begun again and, news of an alternative energy source: a new solar shop.

Joël et Muriel, venus de Belgique, ont choisi de s'embarquer pour l'aventure aurovilienne. Pour ces deux nouveaux arrivants, vivre à Auroville c'est d'abord une expérience radicale et quotidienne sur le chemin de la transformation. Ils ont été conviés par le groupe «Newcomers for newcomers» à une conférence sur Auroville présentée par Sraddhalu Ranade, scientifique et pédagogue de l'ashram Sri Aurobindo ( voir «Presentation on Auroville by Sraddhalu Ranade» sur AurovilleRadio, pour l'écouter en entier). Ils s'expriment ici au fil de la Charte, commentant la conférence et dévoilant leurs expériences intérieures à cœur ouvert. Programme légèrement bilingue, où la voix de Sraddhalu en anglais et celles de Muriel et Joël en français, s'entremêlent et tissent le rêve selon eux.

His name is spoken Oigen in German or Eugene in English, as he explains it. He lives in Courage community which he believes is one of the best communities in Auroville in terms of equal space for all and for its architectural values. The interview touches various pitches from what attracted him to India to what he likes and dislikes about Auroville and its present system in a very frank style. He talks about his proposals and interests in the town planning and administration system of Auroville, his relationship with the people in Auroville and much more.

Kids from Deepanam, Auroville come out with a pleasing performance for the Radio play 'Alexander's encounter' for Auroville Radio. The kids perform roles from the present day to an ancient Prince. Little Prince Alexander of Macedonia had a secret dream which is somehow related to Auroville!.pretty mysterious isn't it? About 150 Aurovilians gathered at the Tibetan Pavilion on Saturday the 15th to be part of to the General Meeting held by the RAS and facilitated by Jessie. The actual Executives of the Matrimandir explained their vision of the work in progress around the Unity Garden with a Power-Point presentation. And this was followed by an open discussion between the members of the community in order to find a consensus on the right path to follow. Read more

C'était le 1er avril dernier dans la salle de conférence du Town Hall. Il y avait là installé une exposition intitulée « Unfoling » qui retraçait, à travers des schémas et croquis, l'évolution de la galaxie et du travail de Roger Anger à Auroville. Cette exposition a été proposée par Mister Doshi, éminent architecte indien et membre du Governing Board. C'est Jacqueline, la compagne de Roger Anger qui a collecté, et sélectionné ces précieux documents d'archives. En ce jour du 1er avril, Jacqueline était là et faisait la visite à Doudou Diene et Marc Luyckx Ghisi tout deux membre de l'International Advisory Concil avec aussi la présence de Luigi et Alain Grandcolas.

Le temps cette semaine est un petit peu nuageux car le vent tourne. De fortes pluies sont à prévoir pour ce weekend, températures entre 29 et 35 degrés. Cette semaine Auroville est partagée. Deux importantes informations circulent, la première c'est le renouvellement de l'Avenir d'Auroville et la deuxième le résultat des votes concernant les travaux autour du Banian. The Banyan tree which stands at the geographical center of Auroville and which symbolize unity is dear to many residents. Few months ago landscaping work started underneath; two paved solid path as well as a series of benches were created. It changed quite a bit the atmosphere which people were accustomed to relate to.<br>Concerns developed also about the health of the tree in relation with its pruning and other factors related to the present landscaping. Recently a petition was launched to stop the work until proper expression of this concerns can be done. A General Meeting was organized on the 10th of March to start this process. 150 people attended.

Today is a day for quiet reflection yet at the same time a day for celebration. The Independence of India and not surprisingly the birthday of Sri Aurobindo both fall upon August 15. Sri Aurobindo, at one period in his life actively involved in the fight for independence, retired from that work and took on the greater far-reaching inner work, which has brought us all here. The Amphiteatre at Matrimandir at 5:15 a.m. is the site of the traditional bonfire, accompanied by a reading of Savitri by the Mother accompanied by the music of Sunil. Next at Bharat Nivas at 8:30 the Indian flag will be raised, in a meditational moment of gratitude. There will be a short recitation by the students on “Sri Aurobindo”. Dr. (Mrs.) Kamla Tiwari will be honoured with “ponnadai” in appreciation of her life long achievements in the field of health care. Many Aurovilians will visit Sri Aurobindo's room in the Ashram in Puducherry throughout the day.

Piero and Gloria are a married couple of architects from Italy who have been in Auroville since the beginning having arrived in March 1968. They talk about the manner in which they invest their constructions with beauty as one of the principle manifestations and evidence of the divine. They discuss how they manage to balance this with being sustainable, working to budget and with the local availability of resources. Finally, they talk about their work in the building of aurovillian schools and how they have tried to create classrooms that can accommodate the unique style of Aurovillian teaching techniques.
