Trovadores, Aurelio & Nadaprem

Last Friday, there was a peaceful multicultural art sharing with Anandi at Unity Pavilion. Poems were told through sounds and movements with music, and mime artists and lovers told stories in various ways. Nadaprem and Aurelio led a beautiful musical meditation, using a mix of soft Western-Indian harmonies. Joska took us on a trip back to medieval times, generously sharing, with his guitalele, his love of the era. Drupad joined to tell a poem through mime and poetry lovers read poetry in Tamil, Spanish, and English. We hope to see you all, as we meet again on Saturday March 1st! Read more

Decisions, Music, Theathre

Tomorrow, Friday January 31st, a Residents' Assembly Decision-making Event takes place at the Solar Kitchen. From 10am to 4pm, one can have a say regarding a) the proposal to convert the Water Maintenance Service (WMS) to a 'true service' and b) the priorities for the physical development of the Service Area. EARTHBEAT - A Journey of World Music & Dance with Vanaver Caravan, can be enjoyed tonight at 7.30pm at Cripa,  Kalabhumi. The play "Madwomen of Chaillot" by Jean Giraudou will be on during three evenings in February, dates being 1st to 3rd. GM, Music and Dance

A GM to discuss options for the protection of Auroville lands is planned for Wednesday at 4.30pm, at Unity Pavilion in the International Zone. On the same day, at 8pm, we are invited to hear the Music Ensemble of Auroville at CRIPA, Kalabhumi. Chloe on flute, Holger on violin, and Nadaprem on viola will surely be giving an excellent classical performance including compositions by Beethoven, Mozart and others. In the same place, on the following day, at 7.30pm we all have the opportunity to hear and see "Earthbeat - A Journey of World Music & Dance" performed by Vanaver Caravan. Read more

8th Tibet Festival Performance

A very moving performance, last Saturday night, at the Tibetan Pavilion in Auroville, was given as part of the 8th Tibet festival. TSAM (Tibetan Students Association of Madras) expressed, through traditional dance and singing, their hope for a free Tibet. The show ended with the Tibet national anthem which brought tears to my eyes, partly out of gratitude to the generosity and warmth displayed by these hobbyist dancers and singers. Such goodwill, honesty, sense of humor and commitment to the cause of their country. Forget hobbyist, I saw only the weight of the humanitarian work that they are doing. Free Tibet! Read more

Sadhana, Piano and Rock

In today's news we are featuring interview with Aviram recorded during the occasion of the 10th year anniversary of Sadhana Forest. On Thursday at 8pm in Pitanga we are invited to an evening piano concert with Hartmut, On Saturday, Anna Taj and musicians will offer the community a Pop Rock Concert, at 8.45pm, Visitor Centre (International Zone), and they say: come rock the Visitor Centre dance floor! Alba Music

Last Wednesday, on December 11th, Alla Dulh`s exhibition in the Square Circle Gallery, Kala Kendra (Bharat Nivas), closed with a concert. Russian Albert Sultanov played Alba music, which is a trance meditation music based on Indian instruments and mantras. The word Alba means sunrise of the inner sun. Read more

Awakening of Christmass Light

On the Sunday morning of December 15th, a very special performance by and for the children of Auroville was given at Cripa, Kalabhumi: Awakening of Christmas Light. The very wrong spirit and his consort Evilina played a terrible trick on all the kids, freezing the Great North and locking away all the presents that were meant for the children. Sustainbaility Indicators, Art

Featuring an excerpt of an interview made by Andrea with Dr. Ajay Agarwal, who is inviting us all to a Study Presentation on 'Auroville Sustainability Indicators' on Wednesday, December 18th. Taking place at the MMC, Town Hall, at 4 pm, eight post graduate planning students from the School of Urban & Regional Planning, Queens University, Canada who, together with their Professor, opted to work on the theme. Last weekend, the community had the chance to explore some views on the culture of the Americas. The atmosphere, at the Unity Pavilion in the International Zone, was relaxed and friendly. It was in particular the Latino countries of Central and South Americas that were covered. Also in the news:  three days of the theater show - Sri Aurobindo's Viziers of Bassora - is being put on stage by Aryamani. Auroville also had a chance to see some good films, taste mate, coffee and tamales, in addition to seeing and participating in dance workshops. Yesterday, Christmas songs were shared, and a salsa rueda performance held, with a workshop. Read more

Cafe Auroville, Marathon

In today's news we are featuring Michael talking on the second edition of Cafe Auroville, which will

happen tomorrow from 1pm onward, at Unity Pavilion in the International Zone. The second interview is with Balaji on the 7th edition of the Auroville Marathon, which will take place on February 9th, 2014. LATINOAMERIKA will share with us some aspects of culture - from films and food to music, along with Sri Aurobindos dramatic romance play Viziers of Bassora on December 14th, 15th and 16th, at 7pm at Sri Aurobindo Auditorium, Bharat Nivas. Pachamama, Antare

Today, the 3rd GM on the selection process takes place, at 4pm, in the SAIIER building of the Town Hall complex. The University of Human Unity is announcing its winter course schedule, promising an lseminar every Thursday from December 13th until February 27th. This takes place at Savitri Bhavan (International Zone). The first session question: Is Auroville an Eco Village? Rod Hemsell will be presenting The Philosophy of Religion and the Poetry of Sri Aurobindo. On Wednesday at 5pm Alla Duh will close her exhibition at Kala Kendra with a concert by Alberto Sultanov. The inauguration of LATINOAMERIKA will happen on Wednesday at 4.30pm, with a Pachamama ceremony. Read more

Participation, Piano Recital

Discoveries of Fire, a Fire and Light performance at the Visitor Centre, is postponed to Friday the 29th at 8pm. On Saturday November 30th, between 10am to 4pm at Unity Pavilion in International Zone, we are all invited to Residents' Assembly Decision Making Event, where the proposal "Participatory Working Groups" and the connected selection process are works in progress. At Pitanga, 30th November, at 8pm, Maestro Biagio Andriulli will perform a Classical Piano Concert. On the same day, at 4pm, Kala Kendra will inaugurate Antare, an exhibition of paintings on old wood by Alla Dulh with a concert by Nadaprem & Aurelio. Read more

Malu, Joem and Sebastian, making up the heart of Amayama band, performed  last night, with guests, at the Sri Aurobindo Auditorium, Bharat Nivas, Pavilion of Indian Culture in International Zone. They mesmerized the audience with their music, dance and visuals. Using the power of world music rhythms they managed to connect those present in human unity, as has been done down the ages; leaving almost nobody sitting. Visuals and music appear as result of seeking for truths through spiritual practices, prophets, teachers from dawn to todays ones, such as Ama or Don Miguel Ruiz. Good Show!Read more

Fire, Light, Music

On Saturday and Sunday "Discoveries of Fire" will be performed by 11 Auroville Youth, at 8pm, Visitor Centre. Written by the youth themselves, the performance, through spinning of fire and light, tells the tale of the voyage of fire throughout the history of humanity. At Sri Aurobindo Auditorium, Bharat Nivas, Pavilion of Indian Culture (International Zone), also on Saturday at 8pm, we are invited to see and listen to the Amayama band from Spain. A workshop on the theme of Siddhi Day, under the auspices of the Tamil Heritage Centre and the Arulvavzhi Training Centre, will take place, at 10am to 1pm at SAWCHU, Bharat Nivas. Read more

Survey on Mobility

In today's news we are featuring teacher Mahavir and students Mira and Chandana from Deepanam School. They are undertaking a survey on mobility for L'Avenir d'Auroville. After observing designated spots at peak hour to collect data, the children will analyse the data using Excel. On Saturday November 16th, at 4pm, Unity Pavilion (International Zone), a second General Meeting on a proposed new Selection Process for the Working Committee and the Auroville Council (Participatory Working Group proposal) will be discussed. A Lo Latino

Last Friday at the Unity Pavilion (International Zone), a  Columbian Band shared music from their continent with the community. It was an amazing evening with the 13 musicians displaying some rhythms likely not before known in Auroville, such as vallenato, merengue and cuban song, along with Colombian salsa and Latin rock. That we all  understand the universal language of music, and that we all enjoy letting our bodies vibrate and swing to it, was proved the numerous people in attendance. The salsa dancers especially had a good time, and we all hope to have more of this kind of music in the future. Read more

Land Exchange, Entry

On Wednesday, October 23rd, we are invited by LMTF to a 2nd General Meeting regarding a land exchange proposal involving the North Eastern Greenbelt. This will take place at 4pm at the Unity Pavilion (International Zone). On Friday the 25th, at 4.30pm, the Entry Task Force would like to present their new proposal for the entry process, this too at the Unity Pavilion. The proposal is in response to a request from the community during the Open Platform meeting on Entry. Also on Friday, at 7.30pm Genius Brothers will present Classik Stuff at the Visitor Centre, followed by an 8.30pm Unity Pavilion A Lo Latino concert featuring Dondieu Divine on keyboards.Read more

In today's news we are featuring Elisa talking on the coming event "Shall We ... Unity?" taking place on Saturday October 26th at 8pm at Kalabhumi. You can also hear an excerpt from Mr. Bala Baskar talking during the GM on the Entry-Exit draft yesterday. On Saturday the 19th, we are invited to Pitanga at 7.30pm, for a MatriVandana on the occasion of the Mother's first arrival to Pondicherry. Day 2 at the Singing Festival

The second day of the Singing Festival, again well attended, started earlier than the previous evening. Jimbo, as the night before, was behind the microphone, entertaining the audience and filling gaps in-between the numbers of the 15 crews of the evening. Singers, although representing nations, were unified when it came to certain songs, and to singing itself. The Singing Festival clearly showed that there are many talents in the community, and that a wish to socialize beyond normal formal frames exists. Read more

Singing Festival Day 1

Minsun, Joy, and Gumsoon organized the first Auroville Singing Festival. At the amphitheater of Kalabhumi singers from 25 different nations performed their repertoire. Aged from 3 years old to over 70, the singers selected some of the most beloved folk and traditional songs from their nations. The Latin American team really rocked the show... and Margarita, well know in Auroville for her scientific researches on Effective Microorganisms, will from now on be also very much appreciated for her incredible energy on stage! The completion of Trust, the first song of an album in progress by Taranti and Ruben, inspired us to interview Taranti. She explains that the song was written for a friend who was depressed, to shine a light on the trust that Taranti knows is present in each one of us, even during our darkest hours. She also speaks of the overall aim of bringing meaningful lyrics to the dance floor, through the addition of beats by Ruben. After an intense time singing mainly lullabies, Taranti and Ruben are both excited to be experimenting with music again. Listen to the whole song at the end of the interview. Read more

Sustainable living, Triathlon, ...

In today's news we are featuring Shefali, from Auroville Consulting, talking on a five day convention: Renewable Energy and Sustainable Living in Remote Areas. Prepared by ANGIRS, a non profit charitable trust and a network of Indian Alumni from German universities. All are invited to the Unity Pavilion on October 7th, starting at 10am. Tonight at 5pm, we are invited to a musical program of Russian Singing Bells by Vera, at CRIPA in Kalabhumi. Anna and Rolf at AVFF13

For the last night of the Auroville Film Festival 13, as part of the closing and awards giving ceremony, the social part, with live music, was still going strong. A high-spirited audience had a chance to listen to Anna Taj and Rolf. They had been announced a couple times before but canceled due to rain and other circumstances. Finally, they brought to the space some soft jazz, classical music and songs from Anna's first Album Golden Heart. Francoise joined them for the last piece.

Mongbra and  Other Awards

After five days screening of many good movies, sharing music , socializing... Auroville Film Festival 13 concluded yesterday with closing ceremony. Amazing work of students, with lots of enthusiasm, humor, creativity consist a big part of festival, and clearly shows that youth got a lot of potentials, capacities and freedom to develop it further. Marco, Sasi, Tom, Christoph, Krishna....and many many more made the festival happened, providing the platform to share city creativity along with the category on theme of human unity from outside. AVFF13 5th Night in Full Swing
As is the Auroville Film Festival 13 approaching toward its conclusion it seems that everything goes more smoothly. At musical part next to shamiana last night Niki started with peaceful reggae for the Peace Day, followed by some poetry reading with Nikita and Anand. Christa and Christopher from Ashram shared with audience Andersen story accompanied by flute. Daniela on guitar softened sunset, while Francoise and Joska, who was later replaced by Rolf brought some lively beats to the place. Suryan with few new songs concluded the night. Read more

AVFF13 4th Night with Storm
Despite the rain, and the storm to start the evening with, perseverance, optimism of the team lead by Anungla keep adapting to the weather circumstances, made the evening successful. We have heard some poetry read by Krishna and Sasikant, Sri Aurobindo poem recited by Sharan, some songs sung by Archana. Puskhar on keyboard, Pinco Pallino (Gino) on set of home made alternative percussion excited the audience with their exploration of melodies and beats. The evening concluded with Rolf on guitar, and Francois on clarinet, violin and guitar. Read more

Festival Spirits - Day 3
With so many art installations (which are keep appearing), every day live music and entertainment, with food and drinks this year Auroville Film Festival 13 again could be put at the side of those real international festivals around the world. Yesterday in the evening we had a chance to hear Flute Duet by Dorothy and Yun Sung, followed by father and son due of Yam and Aran. Daniele, despite her gentle voice and touch on guitar excited gathered, but Aloe and Tara, accompanied with Jana and Martin thrilled the crowd with their excellent voices. Read more

Open Platform, Art Installations
Today at 4pm at Unity Pavilion in International Zone we are invited to Open Platform. In today's news are some short interviews with artist working on installations for the occasion of third Auroville Film Festival 2013 - Renu, Marc, Archana, Putra and Manci. Festival will open its doors tomorrow at 5pm at Town Hall, and until 22nd we would be able to see screened films on three locations - Cinema Paradiso, Conference Room, and outdoor screening.
