CRIPA
We feature interview with Gunasekaran, member of the new Auroville Council talking on housing issues. On Sunday at 5pm The Centre for Research in the Performing Arts (CRIPA) invites us all to an Opening Concert by the Auroville Choir, At Cripa Hall in Kalabhumi . CRIPA hall is nearing completion and it is meant to be a theatre, music and dance space for the exploration and development of these art forms. Wood and Hat Tournament
On February 4th and 5th at Certitude and Udavi sports ground we can witness Auroville Hat Tournament 2012 India Ultimate's. Two hundred players from all over will come and test their fitness and improve their skills with an 'Auroville' spirit . The Auroville Hat is the only 'hat' tournament in India, and reflects its spirit of Unity in Diversity. We feature interview with Kumaran about it. On Friday 3rd of February Aurodhan Gallery will present Sebastian Cortes's Pondicherry exhibition of fine art photographic images excluseively selected from the book launched at the same time. Bhumi Puja for Youth Housing
Happy Republic Day India! This morning was inaugurated a volunteer housing project named Rohini & Yuva. One of our volunteers, Kimbo, attended bhumi puja onsite near Luminosity and talked with Uma directly. On Saturday at 4 PM, at Kala Kendra Audiovisual Room, we're invited to a presentation called 'MISSION AUROVILLE' which is about six Polish artists who are currently residing in Auroville. The OM Choir and Pongalo Pongal!

Today’s interview is wih Aurovilian Kayananda, enthusiatic about the OM choir experience. It’s Pongal, celebrated all over India! It began as a farmer’s festival, but has become a national festival. Bhogi: discarding old things; homes cleaned and decorated. Rice with fresh milk is boiled to overflowing, offered to the Sun God in gratitude for the harvest. Maattu honors cows: they are washed, horns painted brightly, flowers round their necks. Kanu Pidi : girls feed the crows, praying for their brothers: a time of gratitude and family reunions. AV Cyclone Response Team strongly request the cooperation of all residents regarding handling of Auroville's wood and timber. They're asking us NOT TO SELL AUROVILLE WOOD OR EXCHANGE IT FOR LABOR. All Auroville wood, or its value, will eventually be utilized to rebuild Auroville. We should understand that if one choose to sell or exchange Auroville wood on his own, one cannot expect reimbursement for rebuilding costs such as clearing, ... Under the Matrimandir Banyan Tree John Harper speaks of how it looks here. Juan, professional tree pruner called in to cut the badly broken limb of the Banyan, cyclone damage. Juan offers a class in safe handling of chainsaws. All service connections in Auroville and surrounding villages without power since the cyclone struck. Cyclone Thane first report
Dear friends, sorry for the 3 days long silence but Auroville has no power and very unstable telephone & Internet connections since the 30th. We switched off all systems to protect the equipment. From Monday we'll cover extensively the Thane Cyclone's effects in the region. Auroville suffered damages but not people died or get injured.
