Community said Yes
Yesterday Residents Assembly brought the results of our votes for the choice of the preferences on the Study Group's L'Avenir d'Auroville/TDC selection process proposal. Out of 274 votes, 27 were invalid, 197 votes Yes, and 50 No. For decision to be valid is needed 10% of adult population, which is 1790 people. Although it was a discussion in the beginning due to the small number of participants on the RA itself either we should follow 2004 decision making process, decison was to follow 2007 policy. Featured today is an interview with long-time Aurovilian B, expounding on the current situation in Auroville, the problem of religion and authority...of why, seemingly, Aurovililans appear to ‘need’ a leader, to give an ‘OK,’ to tell them how to proceed...B shares his insights which sprang up as a result of last week's final Town Development meeting in which Mr. Doshi was present. Second afternoon of Mr. Doshi, Chairman of Town Development Council interaction with residents of the community was held in a good spirit and will to find some solutions. And if the community already agreed upon clear vision in order to build the city, this interaction also brought forward the necessity of need for technical group within Town Development Council. Mr.Doshi is coming to visit Auroville and interact with the community on Monday 18th and Tuesday 19th at 4.30pm at Conference Room in Town Hall. June 15-29 The Residents' Assembly Service (RAS) invites all Aurovilians to participate in a Residents' Assembly decision-making process on the structure and selection of the community's planning body, l'Avenir d'Auroville also called the Town Development Council (TDC). Explorative Meeting
Meeting between Mr. Bala Baskar, the Secretary of Auroville Foundation, Working Committee members and L'Avenir d'Auroville/ Town Development Council on future planning and developing the city had an explorative character. Opinions and ideas given on what should be the priority while focusing on the future and present situation hold different approaches - some with totally agreement by all, some slightly different, and some strongly disagreed. Future Plans

Future plans from Future School.. We interviewed some students who are graduating now. Their feedback about Auroville is that they feel like they have much more freedom, and they can move towards their own interest. They have wide range of subjects and the students can choose based on their motivation. Auroville education is the best education to them. The graduated students planned to move out of Auroville for their further studies because Auroville does not have University Education with certificates, and might return some day. Read more

Fish Bowl Dialogue
Yesterday's facilitated exchange organized by RAS at Unity Pavilion started with umbrella question - What question, if that question would be answered, would a neighbor ask as a community to agree on a shared way forward, and how to plan and build Auroville City? - which was meant to invite more questions, and not so much solutions and answers. Whole exchange was in a form of Fish Bowl Dialogue, which brought faster, and lighter dynamic to the meeting itself. What and for whom to build?
Present team of L'Avenir d'Auroville/TDC shared yesterday at SAWCHU with the community detailed report on their work for the last two years. As the planning of the city is very complex and structured from different aspects of it, each member was focused on that particular part. After the review was an opening question/answer sharing part of the meeting, which brought on the surface many issues. Sustainable Regional Plan

On Friday workshop at conference Room in Town Hall, participants put on the table the fact that Auroville Township, Viluppuram, Cuddalore districts of Tamil Nadu and the districts of Puducherry are very closely connected to each other through natural resources, climate, historical links, culture, religion, language, tourism, trade or business, population and transportation. Renewal of Consciousness
Frederick, a Working Committee member, spoke to us on some current issues. His overall view is that this will be a year of many changes, and as such a year of intensive work, outwardly as well as inwardly. The aims of the Working Committee are to create a process in which it will become a facilitating agent, and to be more proactive than reactive as it is now. Appointment of the community's friendly secretary Bala Baskhar is seen as a positive change. And we all should focus on renewing of our consciousness and do what we are here for.

Infrastructure Distribution
From L'Avenir d'Auroville Rolf talks on future development of the city, which is currently in chaos, especially regarding utilities infrastructure set up of the past. After the cyclone came a strong call from the community to explore underground utilities supply. And in general energy has accumulated to the point where we can start seriously thinking of overall infrastructure distribution. Next month we will get another electrical high tension cable to interconnect different transformers in order to achieve more regular supply of electricity. Read more

The Masterplan by l`Avenir
In January 2012, we spoke to Cristo of the l'Avenir d'Auroville about the work of the planning office with regards to the greenbelt masterplan and the recent cyclone. Cristo tells us the story of the development of the masterplan and also his own involvement in the project. We learn the aims, challenges, learnings, the laws and regulations of l'Avenir. There is much to be learnt here about the complexities involved in development of the 'land-use' plan and building standards, especially with regards to natural calamities like cyclones.

L`Avenir d`Auroville at AVI
At the annual Auroville International (AVI) meeting 2012, held at the Multipurpose Hall (Unity Pavilion, International Zone) members of L'Avenir d'Auroville presented current situations, plans and problems. Presentation were extensive and following questions were many since town planning is one of the most vital and often a problematic issue. Residential Zone Plans
In 2010 l'Avenir d'Auroville had commissioned to Luis Feduchi a study about the Residential Zone, sectors 1 & 2. In the mean time l'Avenir d'Auroville has also started a process of "participatory planning" with architects residing in Auroville. In November 2011 some members of the planning office went to Amedhabad to meet with Mr. Doshi, chairman of TDC / l'Avenir d'Auroville, to present the studies. The next step is to integrate the two researches. In February 2012 Mr. Doshi will visit Auroville to help in finalizing this integration work.

Pumped Storage Systems
