Hear Mawite explain the situation at AuroAnnam on Earth Day weekend - first with a walk around the land and chant led by Kaya, then a presentation back at the Farmers' Cafe. Read more

Mobility and Traffic
From Austria comes Karl-Heinz, a working expert on mobility management. While in Auroville, Karl-Heinz made studies of the plans of this city-in-the-becoming in order to determine the needs of the residents, from young children though the elderly. Aware of the predicted 50,000 population, he points out that since people do not suddenly change their habits, it's necessary to change current trends, which is where mobility management comes into the picture. Traffic includes vehicles of every type as well as pedestrians. Therefore Karl-Heinz talks about streets in addition to roads, streets and speed breakers and all that offers a sense of safety, security, to those who venture out and about.

On the Roads
Today's news features an interview with a person recently attacked on the road, who presents a different take on the security situation. In addition to anger and fear, there's a unique idea on how to react to this problem; perhaps an ancient one, that of meeting it head-on, face to face, getting to know one's assailant, one's enemy, finding what need is there to cause such actions, and, offering help. Also in the news a road-related cause for celebration: a stretch of paved road newly completed and open for use as of today.

Read more

Shared Space

On Wednesday, the 28th of April the Austrian mobility management consultant Karl-Heinz Posch presented the concept of Shared Space in the Town Hall conference room. Shared space removes the traditional segregation of motor vehicles, pedestrians and other road users. Conventional road priority management systems and devices are replaced with an integrated, people-oriented understanding of public space, so pedestrians and cyclists are the focus of the shared space concept.
