Towards Human Unity

Geometry for a City

On Saturday, November 21, Auroville's planning group (L'Avenir d'Auroville) organized a full-day workshop on planning and design. Aurovillian architects were the main participants. At the morning presentation, which was held in the town hall's conference room, Pierre Legrand, an artist and member of L'Avenir d'Auroville, presented his grid concept grid concept presentation. Some participants at the workshop stated that if the city was designed spirally it would be quite helpful. Cristo, another member of L'Avenir d'Auroville and the Green Group, appreciated the grid proposal. Information and outputs of this workshop will be presented to the community in the coming weeks. Residents’ Assembly Gathering
Yesterday afternoon more than 120 residents of Auroville met with the new team of L'avenir d'Auroville. After the personal introduction made by all the new members the microphone was shared with the people who took the opportunity to share their feelings, comments and ideas. The focus of the gathering was on the planning and development of the City and as usual, questions were raised about the Galaxy plan and vision of the City. The explanation given by the planners was well accepted and some clapping accompanied the meeting. Some criticism was also expressed but the discussion never degenerated. Rendez-vous avec Elle
C'était le 1er avril dernier dans la salle de conférence du Town Hall. Il y avait là installé une exposition intitulée « Unfoling » qui retraçait, à travers des schémas et croquis, l'évolution de la galaxie et du travail de Roger Anger à Auroville. Cette exposition a été proposée par Mister Doshi, éminent architecte indien et membre du Governing Board. C'est Jacqueline, la compagne de Roger Anger qui a collecté, et sélectionné ces précieux documents d'archives. En ce jour du 1er avril, Jacqueline était là et faisait la visite à Doudou Diene et Marc Luyckx Ghisi tout deux membre de l'International Advisory Concil avec aussi la présence de Luigi et Alain Grandcolas.

Unfolding, The Auroville City Form

On 15th of March in Town Hall was inaugurated massive exhibition of planning resource. The first part of exhibition was named Galaxy Planning and Roger Anger. Lalit explained that the exhibition itself was great team work of many in a short span of time, and everybody contributed in more then one way to it. The exhibition is consistent from many panels of drawings, sketches, scanned photos...and it will be open until 15th of April. Read more

La Galaxie est en marche

Je marche, tu marches, il marche, nous marchons vers le Town Hall, vers le centre d'Auroville où se déroule en ce moment une exposition sur l'évolution des plans de la Galaxie et du travail de Roger Anger. Dans ces nouvelles en français aussi une invitation à venir vendredi 19 mars au Visitor Center pour une soirée « Cabaret » afin de collecter des fonds pour « Auroville Performing Arts ». Cette association a pour but d'aider, de coordonner et de produire des spectacles et des artistes auroviliens dans le domaine du théâtre, de la musique et de la danse.

Renewing L`Avenir

The process of renewing L’avenir d’Auroville (the Urban planning service  of Auroville) is going on since sometime. It is the occasion for Auroville residents to find a new momentum toward the construction of the City. Amongst all the actions which are being conducted for this purpose, a Study group has worked toward the necessary evolution of the structure and functioning of this service. Their proposal was presented to the Residents during this meeting to start collect feedback from them and get it ratified. Here the recording of the meeting held yesterday in Town Hall.

Architecture and Planning

On the16th February of 2010 there had been a presentation in Town Hall, held by the acknowledged architects Dean D’ Cruz from Goa and Ms. Mette from Denmark. With the aim to share their work in the field of architecture and planning w ith the Aurovillians, Dean`s presentation included his involvement with the preparation of the Goa Regional Plan. Mette Lange, an architect who has her base both in Denmark and Goa, works with a few other Danish architects and engineers on a project to create sustainable modular housing for India. The presentations were followed by an interactional part with the audience, including some discussions.

L`Avenir In Process Part 3

The last meeting regarding the renewal of L’Avenir d’Auroville was focused on the organisation and detailing of this process. Due to unavailability of space in the Pavillion of Tibetan Culture, this 3rd working session was exceptionally held in the Town Hall on Tuesday, 29th December 2009, at 10 am, in the Conference Room. All those who have been already participating in the first two sessions were present as well others who helped in constructing further on the ideas.The proposed process was then presented to the community and the Governing Board, on the occasion of the meeting on L’Avenir d’Auroville with the GB (B.V. International Zone Meeting

L'Avenir d'Auroville organised a General Information Meeting on Thursday, the 10th of December at 5pm in the Town Hall. The International Zone group, the Visitor's Centre team and peple from Bharat Nivas presented and explained the recently approved lay-out about the International Zone and specific projects of Bharat Nivas and the Visitor's Centre. A talk with Roger Anger

The document presents a conversation with Roger Anger recorded in 1996. The architect talks about   the different evolutions of his career and explains how his research of  harmony in shapes and colors was also related with his spiritual seeking. He also comes back on how he finally got involved in  Auroville project and talks about his encounters with the Mother and the evolution of the city, from the very beginnings to the later developments.

Frederick wants to go on in his conversation with Serge who left us last July. Often they did not have the same approach to the problems Auroville was facing through the years, but they were (are?) moved by the same aspiration for Human Unity. Lo sguardo che cambia

Un incontro di qualche secondo puo' cambiare la vita. Due sguardi che si incrociano e... Kratu e' arrivato a Pondicherry nel 1968 dopo un lungo viaggio dall'Europa in autostop alla ricerca di se stesso. Pittore diventa aiuto architetto (Roger Anger) e traduttore in italiano per l'ashram. Roger Anger passed away
It is with shock and deep sadness that we inform the community that Roger Anger has passed away early this morning in France.In Auroville a silent gathering took place under the Matrimandir Banyan this morning.  He had been appointed by the Mother as architect-in-charge to build the city of Auroville. Highly respected, he spent his time between Auroville and France executing the task given by the Mother.

Polignano - Auroville

Pino, figlio del '68, studia e si laurea in architettura a Firenze. Da dieci anni vive ad Auroville. Colleziona musica dai tempi del vinile e ricorda la meraviglia provata da bimbo scoprendo la musica grazie una radiolina AM e ad un registratore Geloso. André Hababou est né en Tunisie et après des études d'architecture en France part à l'aventure sur la route des hippies. Nous sommes en 1968 l'année de la fondation d 'Auroville le jeune André passe par des expériences de découverte de l'être psychique jusqu'aux rencontres qui marqueront sa vie: les yeux de Mère qui lui dira 'Va travailler avec Roger' (l'architecte choisie par elle afin de construire Auroville).

André Hababou was born in Tunisia and after studying architecture in France, he embarked on the adventurous hippie trail. In 1968, the year Auroville was founded, the young Andre encountered a psychic meeting which would mark his life: the eyes of the Mother telling him  'You will work with Roger' (the architect chosen by Her to build Auroville.)

Matrimandir Update - Aryamani

Aryamani, originally hailing from Brazil, joined Auroville in the late seventies and presently takes care, along with a team of other Aurovilians, of the access for visitors to Matrimandir. In this programme, she explains the current visiting arrangements as well as possible regulations for future access to the Matrimandir chamber, the gardens and the meditation rooms in the petals. Matrimandir Update - Luca

Luca, originally from Italy, works since 1985 at the Matrimandir and is since a few years in charge of the water system. In this interview he talks about the computerised irrigation system that automatically senses and calculates the quantity of water that has to be utilised in the gardens during various moments of the day/year.

Luca lavora dal 1985 alla realizzazione del Matrimandir e da qualche anno e' in carico al sistema idrico dell'intero complesso. In questa intervista ci illustra lo stato dei lavori nella messa in opera del sistema di irrigazione computerizzato che gestisce la giusta quantita' d'acqua da spruzzare nei giardini.

Matrimandir Update - Andy

Long-time Aurovilian Andy (pictured) , originally from Germany, is involved in the Matrimandir work since the 70's. In this interview he explains us why the Matrimandir outer skin had to be re-applied and also gives an overview of the work activities inside the structure, which are proceeding very well. Presently the main focus is on solving some technical challenges regarding the inner skin lighting, the ramps steps and the glass railings on them.
