Voting, Spirit of Sufi, Sport

Today, from 10am to 4pm, a Residents' Assembly Decision Making Event takes place at Unity Pavilion (International Zone). On Wednesday, Dr. Karunakara, past international President of 1999 Nobel Peace Prize Recipient "Doctors Without Borders" is coming to Auroville, to cycle and to give a short presentation. On Saturday the 25th, at 8pm, we can witness The Spirit of Sufi Qawwali at Sri Aurobindo Auditorium, Bharat Nivas, Pavilion of Indian Culture, International Zone. Concrete Jungle Skate park

Uriel took a little time off to inform us about the skate park project that he and Florent are busy undertaking. They want to develop the place into a Concrete Jungle: fun, dance, and sports, also not forgetting the parents that will accompany their kids. Skaters can already access existing facilities. About 20 of them attend on a regular basis. So for the Christmas holidays, tell your kids to come skating!

Ultimate Frisbee Tournament

This weekend, the Auroville Ultimate Frisbee tournament was held. It was the first Auroville tournament where we could see the home teams playing other teams of India. For people new to the sport it was a good occasion to discover this unique game, where men and women compete alongside, in a fair-play attitude. The rules of the sport were explained and what stands out is the fact that there is no referee. Every Monday and Saturday about 40 players practice  at 4:30 PM at Certitude. Read more

GM on Reve, Children in Summer
On 8th of May at 4pm at Unity Pavilion the community is invited to a General Meeting regarding Reve situation. Statement : Following the occupation of a house in Reve by a group of aurovilians “to accomplish a healing process", they invite the RA to this GM to share point of views on the diverse issues raised by the situation in Reve and to find together ways to resolve them. First Auroville Athletics Meet
Last Sunday was a sporty day for Aurovillians! The first Auroville Athletics Meet took place at Dehashakti Sports Complex, next to Dana. Around 50 people registered, mainly teenagers of the school and their sport teacher. From 8 in the morning, they practised 100 m race, 800 m race and long jump before a good breakfast. At 5 pm, a fun race was organized with the feet linked together. Despite of the lack of participants, Rajeev, one of the coordinator, was satisfied of the enthusiam of youngers. He hopes that more adults will join next time. Read more

Thousands of Smiles

A truly inspiring Sunday morning! More than 3000 people gathered at dawn at the Visitor Centre to participate to the 6th Auroville's marathon to run over the path and paved roads of Auroville. The most common word I've heard it's "awesome"... Believe me this interviews are barely edited and what it comes out is that the runners were just so happy! 3000 runners at the 6th Marathon

Auroville Marathon 2013 - Run for the joy of Running. The sixth edition of the Auroville Marathon will be held on February 10, 2013. This year, we'll have over 3000 participants from Auroville, the neighboring villages, Sri Aurobindo Ashram and from other cities in India as well as outside India. Ultimate Hat Tournament

Auroville hosted the third annual India "Hat" tournament during the first three days in February. Sports fields where used across the whole of Auroville with the finals held at Certitude on Sunday afternoon. Big thanks to Mark who as organized this third annual tournament in Auroville. Ultimate Frisbee uses similar rules as Basketball to pass the disk between players and have a score zone at both ends of the field similar as American football. Most unique is that there is no referee and the players call themselves faults being made. Read more

Social Spaces on Crown Road
Urban Planning Graduate Students from Queen's University in Ontario, Canada presented at Multimedia Center in Town Hall results of their exploration and workshop done in past ten days. The student's project was focused on public spaces on the Crown Road from Solar Kitchen toward Arka. Ten students summarized all their findings, and clearly presented some guidelines and recommendations deriving out of their observations and specifically of Auroville as a social space on its own. Mr.Doshi is coming to visit Auroville and interact with the community on Monday 18th and Tuesday 19th at 4.30pm at Conference Room in Town Hall. Kalari-Fest by Udayan`s Masters

Kalarippayat, Mohiniyattam and Theyyam were performed by the Udayan's Masters at Sri Aurobindo Auditorium. Kalarippayat is a great and ancient physical, cultural and martial art of Kerala, which was in prevalence from time immemorial. February 11th 2012: Ted MacDonald, the athlete experimenting with running on bare feet gave an inspiring speech for the marathon runners. There was that much interest in his talk that the speech had to be given in the open air, on the Visitors Centre's square. Ted spoke of his view on running with or without shoes and his journey to find the ultimate running experience, and encouraged people to keep running and keep searching for their own perfect way of doing so. Hat Tournament
Sports ground at Certitude, the field next to and Udavi sports ground were very lively past weekend with Hat Tournament , which is ultimate frisbee tournament a different way with mixed team, as Mark explained it to us. Twelve teams consisted of seven players played for four games (long 1h15m) in the morning and two games in the afternoon on all three fields. Ultimate frisbee is more self sponsored sport with clear spirit of sportmanship; ultimate is different, one has to keep it cool, know the rules, has to call it fair and work in a team. Read more
