Connecting Inner Power with Global Change. An approach to organizations/systems based on fractals and Sri Aurobindo. A talk with audio-visuals in Town Hall Conference Hall, was held on Monday, 16 August. Pravir Malik is a successful business consultant in the US, and he’s also taught in the Ashram School. He presented the work he’s doing with fractals and their assisting with solving organizational and system problems. Amongst many celebrations and offerings the one at Deepanam school might have been small in numbers and the size of the school, but big in heart as participated by almost everyone from the school. Children from the youngest to the oldest, as well s the teachers...all took part on Saturday's “Small Offerings” as they named it, for Sri Aurobindo's birthday and India's Independence Day. On Sunday 15 th of August at Bharat Nivas in the morning was the celebration for the birthday of Sri Aurobindo and for the Independence day of India. In the opening talk of Anu we could remember that Sri Aurobidno saw that for the evolution of mankind was important for all nations to be free, and India had to take the role to start that process. In the ideal human unity this evolution would regard mankind as one single nation, that a free world union must it in its very nature be a complex unity, based on diversity, and that diversity must be based on a free self determination. Final dream was not limited in time. It carry the seeds of evolution into the future of humanity, and there we see the birth of Auroville already placed as a seed to experiment of the future of Humanity. Read more

Today's news features an interview with Akash of Aquaponics. He talks about the art of growing plants without soil; it's done with a pond of water with fishes happily swimming about and thereby supplying the required nutrients for the plants to grow through their waste. Also in the news an announcement for Sunday's Dawnfire at the Amphitheatre in recognition of Sri Aurobindo's birthday and in the evening, a musical offering 'Sri Aravindaya Namaha' performed by Nadaka and Gopika at Arka.

As it is a custom, when the days of festivals, celebrations are near, events are also piling up, and in those days its actually hard to choose where you would like to be. Tonight we can choose between ethnic chanting in a circle at Verite Hall with Ana, Tiago and friends, or harp meditation and mystic words of Rumi offered by Antarjyoti, or we might see a Spanish movie in Cinema Paradiso. In the conversation with Nicolai we heard some news about Youth Center. Sri Aurobindo's birthday on Sunday 15th of August, which is also India's Independence Day will be celebrated on Friday, Saturday, with different programs and offerings and of course on Sunday with early morning bonfire and with program at Bharat Nivas at 8am.

Sometimes it may seems from outside that nothing much going on in the city, but closer look reveal rich diversity in many ways of actions. Today we can see the Celebration of the Divinity, in which Ana and Andy will perform Odissi temple dance, while Tiago, Chloe, Caroline and Mariana will sing ethnic chants from around the world. At Bharat Nivas prof Charlie Manokaran will deliver lecture on his spiritual experiences, and also interact with audience about theater and media communication. The weekend ahead also seems very promising with different events and workshops.

Vinu gets on location to Udavi school where the rehearsal for the Theater play 'Savitri-story of a soul for any age' adapted of Sri Aurobindo's 'Savitri' is going on. The Play is scheduled to be performed in the month of August in Udavi school complex and Bharat Nivas. The Children from Udavi school who act in the Characters of the play share their experiences and emotions while performing the play and working with the Artistic director and writer of the play Jill Navarre and other team members

On the 14 of April teachers and students of the Sri Aurobindo International Centre of Education - Pondicherry - presented a musical composition by Shobba Mitra. This event was organized by the Centre of Indian Studies, Bharat Nivas, and was part of the celebration of the centenary of Sri Aurobindo's arrival in Pondicherry. SAICE is an integral part of Sri Aurobindo Ashram and it serves as a field for new experiment and research in education. Sri Aurobindo considered the formation of an Education Centre as one of the best means of realizing at end. It was, therefore, in order to give a concrete shape to his vision that the Mother opened a school for children on December 2, 1943.

Amongst other for the hundred years of Sri Aurobindo arrival to Pondicherry we had a chance to dive into meditative songs and mantras of Mohan Mistry on Wednesday 4th of April in Savitri Bhavan. The choir of eight perform offering to Sri Aurobindo by songs in Sanskrit, Hindi and Gujarati. On Saturday the 3rd of April in Bharat Nivas dr. Karan Singh had a speech at the occasion of the centenary since Sri Aurobindo arrived to Pondicherry. On Saturday 27th March, CIC Group of Bharat Nivas had invited some 50 people from Auroville to commemorate at a simple function the Anniversary of Sri Aurobindo’s arrival at Pondicherry in 1910. The participants were requested to share their feelings in this regard. The atmosphere was filled with the presence of Sri Aurobindo and Mother, and was very sublime and deep. The gathering took place under the Peepal tree in the Bhatar Nivas compound.

On the 17th of February there was a presentation by Binu Mukherjee, an eminent scientist and a professor, which many people attended. The presentation was about his experiences of being a scientist and a spiritual person at the same time. He discussed how, unlike common feeling, his spiritual attitude complimented with the scientific view of the world. The discussion made its way into thoughts such as how application of mind on science and logic helps on finding the limitations of mind in understanding the nature. Spirituality can lead science to areas that could help life become better by making the world more safe and beautiful to live in. He stated, that since science and spirituality are in essence search for the truth they are similar and can be at some point unified...

Visiting artist Michael Parker shared with us at Kala Kendra on 14th of January a video presentation of his latest work where he's contemplating on accidental and intentional utopias. Amongst others he's diving into three myhts or ideas – the myth of final frontier, the myth of artist fullfilling the place in the society or what is the role of today's artist, and the myth  of class differences, for which he found that is only in our mind, and it doesn't need to be our reality, its merley convention that we have been thaught.  Auroville is interesting for him as an intential community and because art is the part of it from the day one..

Beautiful, sunny afternoon in January... Town Hall... people started to gather for the official visit of General-Director of UNESCO Mrs. Irina Bokova... "When is she coming, what she will tell us... "were the questions, and temperature seemed all of the sudden started to raise... "She's here!", and first greetings from Tatiana in Bulgarian brought tears on the edge of Mrs. Bokova eyes. Her visions about most important things are so close to what Auroville stands for, and the fact that she came for a visit, which was the first of the kind from the side of UNESCO, clearly express the recognition of Auroville in the world. And when she finally addressed us all... feelings were so intense, it was one of the moments when you can clearly feel conectendess between all of us, and the world...then you know, that even is hard sometimes, Auroville is the place where you have to and want to be....

Madame Irina Bokova graced Auroville today with her visit. This gracious lady of Bulgaria has just been recently appointed as Genereal Director of UNESCO. The Conference Room at Town Hall overflowed with Auroville's residents as they listened to Dr. Aster Patel's welcoming words followed by Kripa: Aurovilian by birth and by choice as she elaborated the ideals of Auroville. Madam Bokova spoke in the same vein, stressing the need worldwide for tolerance and respect for one another, to work harmoniously with science, with technology and nature for the benefit of humanity.
