Fate and Love

Not many visitors from Iran come to Auroville. We had a chance to met Dr. Bijan Vala, who told us that fate has brought him here, and he would like to get involved and be active mostly on the field of expressive arts such as music and theater. He sees Auroville as an example of good thoughts, which proved that dreams can turn into reality, and yet he's aware that in the process problems do arise. He likes the Love, The Dream, Matrimandir,... For him the beauty of Matrimandir is that there's nothing religious about it, everybody is left to his/her own thoughts. Read more

Independence Day
On Sunday 15 th of August at Bharat Nivas in the morning was the celebration for the birthday of Sri Aurobindo and for the Independence day of India. In the opening talk of Anu we could remember that Sri Aurobidno saw that for the evolution of mankind was important for all nations to be free, and India had to take the role to start that process. In the ideal human unity this evolution would regard mankind as one single nation, that a free world union must it in its very nature be a complex unity, based on diversity, and that diversity must be based on a free self determination. Final dream was not limited in time. It carry the seeds of evolution into the future of humanity, and there we see the birth of Auroville already placed as a seed to experiment of the future of Humanity. Read more

Goupi's Fabulous Travel

Jean-Pierre was only 24 years old when he first stepped in Sri Aurobindo's Ashram in 1966 after having sailed from Marseille, France 11 months before. He then met Mother and the day of his 26th birthday she gave to him this name of Guru Prasad “Goupi” that he still carries nowadays. Last time that he had been out of station was May 1968's chaotic students events in France, and mainly because he crossed all the steps towards Auroville's present situation, our team decided to interview him at the eve of his “fabulous travel” back to France.

Marie talks about Nandini

Nandini is a cooperative which supplies clothes on a need basis rather than enticing people to browse and buy things they might not really want, like a shop. Membership is paid for annually and people are given what they need regardless of cost. The clothes are bought in Pondicherry as and when they are required. Yet there are questions about defining need - how many t-shirts a person really needs - and this is monitored carefully. Sometimes people are found to be taking too much and Marie has to talk with them about what they really need. There is also a tailoring service to alter clothes and have things such as curtains and bedclothes made for houses. That piece was uploaded as one from the serie of past articles.

Science, Mind and Yoga

On the 17th of February there was a presentation by Binu Mukherjee, an eminent scientist and a professor, which many people attended. The presentation was about his experiences of being a scientist and a spiritual person at the same time. He discussed how, unlike common feeling, his spiritual attitude complimented with the scientific view of the world. The discussion made its way into thoughts such as how application of mind on science and logic helps on finding the limitations of mind in understanding the nature. Spirituality can lead science to areas that could help life become better by making the world more safe and beautiful to live in. He stated, that since science and spirituality are in essence search for the truth they are similar and can be at some point unified...

Mutation ... a process

A sense of 'mutation' seizes us. Not as individuals ...  but as a collective of humanity. The changes taking place are not within the 'established order' of things and of  beings.  The 'established order' itself is ceasing to be. An 'otherness' of  'being'  has begun to take its place. Is it a shift of  'dimension' . . .  of 'hemisphere'  that is happening? “All the ages and millennia of human life that have elapsed so far have prepared the advent of this new state, and now the time has come for its concrete and tangible realisation. That is the very essence of  Sri Aurobindo’s teaching...”  The Mother The conference it's broadcast live from SAWCHU.Click here to tisten here in hi quality (aac+). Run for the Heart 2010

For the final day and last part of the Auro Olympics was the Run for the Heart on 13th of January. All the children were excited about that race for over a month, because it was postponed due to the monsoon rain from December, and that is the race nobody wants to miss it. Some children were preparing themselves for long time for it. And the final day came! Hot sunny day, but that didn't stop the ehtusiasm of maybe small by the size, but big on their will, runners. Parents and friends came to cheer them up, and the feeling of excitment was contagious. We recorded some soundscapes of the race itself and some short interviews with children and their parents..

Power Class Microtopia

Visiting artist Michael Parker shared with us at Kala Kendra on 14th of January a video presentation of his latest work where he's contemplating on accidental and intentional utopias. Amongst others he's diving into three myhts or ideas – the myth of final frontier, the myth of artist fullfilling the place in the society or what is the role of today's artist, and the myth  of class differences, for which he found that is only in our mind, and it doesn't need to be our reality, its merley convention that we have been thaught.  Auroville is interesting for him as an intential community and because art is the part of it from the day one..

New Humanism for the 21st Century

Beautiful, sunny afternoon in January... Town Hall... people started to gather for the official visit of General-Director of UNESCO Mrs. Irina Bokova... "When is she coming, what she will tell us... "were the questions, and temperature seemed all of the sudden started to raise... "She's here!", and first greetings from Tatiana in Bulgarian brought tears on the edge of Mrs. Bokova eyes. Her visions about most important things are so close to what Auroville stands for, and the fact that she came for a visit, which was the first of the kind from the side of UNESCO, clearly express the recognition of Auroville in the world. And when she finally addressed us all... feelings were so intense, it was one of the moments when you can clearly feel conectendess between all of us, and the world...then you know, that even is hard sometimes, Auroville is the place where you have to and want to be....

Visit of Director General of UNESCO

Madame Irina Bokova graced Auroville today with her visit. This gracious lady of Bulgaria has just been recently appointed as Genereal Director of UNESCO. The Conference Room at Town Hall overflowed with Auroville's residents as they listened to Dr. Aster Patel's welcoming words followed by Kripa: Aurovilian by birth and by choice as she elaborated the ideals of Auroville. Madam Bokova spoke in the same vein, stressing the need worldwide for tolerance and respect for one another, to work harmoniously with science, with technology and nature for the benefit of humanity. And for this, she promises to work tirelessly. Her recognition of Auroville's role toward this goal was appreciated by all. .Click Read More to see more images.Read more
