Did you like the Movie?

Hear comments, thoughts and interviews from the public of Auroville as well as guests about their views of the Auroville film festival 2009. One thing the interviewers are constantly bringing out is: that the AVFF is great and creative endeavor. That the films give a better glimpse into Auroville and the bioregion. That this process reflects many goals of Auroville. Auroville is suppose to be a place of unending education (developing one's skills in video would definitely fit the bill), a place of human unity, many of the films were done by village kids, plus the atmosphere of cooperation and collaboration (not competition) in making the films was really great. The creative spirit is alive and well in AV thanks to the AV Film Festival! Watch the video here.

Four More Days Until

The first Film Festival of Auroville! Almost here! Temperature and curiosity rose yesterday during a 24-hour display of huge neon bulbs strung across the road between Solar kitchen and Certitude. The idea was to film the entire construction of the neon bulb construction from its start to its dismantling. Passers-by were more or less intrigued but the highlight appeared after sunset, when all bulbs were in place, and shining forth in the night, visible to all “Auroville Film Festival 09.” Flashy, a bit glamorous, befitting a film premiere. Coming next week. For more infos click here.

Indeed the birth of a new interaction between different cultures and origins was born with Kalevala two stories we heard on the concert. And as old myths, regardless where they're from, evoke in us long forgotten memories and images, so did the music of ISIS brought to us nostalgic memories... from far, so strange, different, and yet so close to one part of us.... the other half of the concert was leading us further... sometimes playful, clean as a fresh water spring or melting snow on meadows, other times flirting with Latino rhythms with a sensual aspect of saxophone... but in all, the feeling of clearness of mind lingered in us for quite some time.

About the Legend of Birth

The beginning of the world is the main topic in mythological stories all around the world. Kalevala is the laragest and most well known Finnish epic poem about the origin;  theater group ISIS created a musical play entitled 'The Legend of Birth.'  In a talk with Supriya and Christopher,  it was revealed that the project's goal is to integrate the myriad  myths  on how it all began. Kalevala is one  that can compare  with the Mahabharata, with Savitri...and many others from various cultures. Could there be a more pleasant way to tell an ancient story than through music and drama?

The Bloody Thumbprint

Last weekend a group of Aurovilians enacted a comedy at Auroson's Home in Certitude. Advertising for this play was only through word of mouth, yet they played to a full house. The storyline told the story of a couple splitting up and coming together again. Comical situations and characterizations really made the play. You can listen or download the whole play here.

Indian Shakespeare

On Monday September 15th 2008, Arka Mukhopadhyay, director of Logos Theatre in Bangalore performed his one man show: Shreds and Patches in Sri Aurobindo Auditorium. The piece takes two questions as its starting point — Who is 'my' Shakespeare? And what does he mean to me as a performer, as an Indian and as a human being? The play attempts to find the answers in fragments of the Bard's plays and sonnets themselves. Arka gaves us an interview the day following the performance.

To listen the whole play you can pass by the radio and ask for a CD or send an email here.

Art in  Auroville never remains the same. And the art here has so many more varieties than any other place. After 40 years of Auroville's existence different levels of performing can involve working  under a tree outside, creating a certain ambiance which is  very nice and fun. But now the Performing Arts Group has moved a step ahead to have a  rehearsal hall. And we have Ganesh who talks about his artistic experience as an architect designing The Center for Research in the Performing Arts (CRIPA). To listen to the interview (in Tamil) click .
