Fate and Love

Not many visitors from Iran come to Auroville. We had a chance to met Dr. Bijan Vala, who told us that fate has brought him here, and he would like to get involved and be active mostly on the field of expressive arts such as music and theater. He sees Auroville as an example of good thoughts, which proved that dreams can turn into reality, and yet he's aware that in the process problems do arise. He likes the Love, The Dream, Matrimandir,... For him the beauty of Matrimandir is that there's nothing religious about it, everybody is left to his/her own thoughts. Read more

Hip Hop
What is actually hip hop? In the conversation with Drupad at Youth Center we talked about that. Many times is wrongly mistaken by gangsta rapping but basically is hip hop defined by five key stylistic elements rapping , DJing andscratching, sampling , beatboxing and dancing. They're saying that Hip hop began in the South Bronx of New York City in the 1970s. And we found out what that got to do with the Youth Center. Read more

Playing Together

For football fans and others this year World Cup held in South Africa was special from many different aspects. In Auroville we decided to watch some of the matches together on the La Terrace - Solar Kitchen. On one of those nights we recorded part of the atmosphere and in interviews with some of the audience Chloé found out that the most important thing that night wasn't really the game itself, but the whole thing, being together, experienced it with millions from all around, to add some energy on, as somebody named it, this particular federating event. This year the World Cup was socially unifying thing, one of the kind.

Independence Day
On Sunday 15 th of August at Bharat Nivas in the morning was the celebration for the birthday of Sri Aurobindo and for the Independence day of India. In the opening talk of Anu we could remember that Sri Aurobidno saw that for the evolution of mankind was important for all nations to be free, and India had to take the role to start that process. In the ideal human unity this evolution would regard mankind as one single nation, that a free world union must it in its very nature be a complex unity, based on diversity, and that diversity must be based on a free self determination. Final dream was not limited in time. It carry the seeds of evolution into the future of humanity, and there we see the birth of Auroville already placed as a seed to experiment of the future of Humanity. Read more

Steffi, a volunteer from Germany who joined our team for good ten months just left. In the interview with Andrea we found out how she sees Auroville, its idea, life... Trough yoga and some other activities she participated in she's not only more clear about her life, and life goals, but she's also more happy, contented with herself, but, as she said, she hasn't explore all of it yet. Here she met many talented and creative people, and was amazed over the quality of cultural life and events. Auroville she sees as a project in process, and positive for its continuation.

Tokens, movies and celebrations
As it is a custom, when the days of festivals, celebrations are near, events are also piling up, and in those days its actually hard to choose where you would like to be. Tonight we can choose between ethnic chanting in a circle at Verite Hall with Ana, Tiago and friends, or harp meditation and mystic words of Rumi offered by Antarjyoti, or we might see a Spanish movie in Cinema Paradiso. In the conversation with Nicolai we heard some news about Youth Center. Sri Aurobindo's birthday on Sunday 15th of August, which is also India's Independence Day will be celebrated on Friday, Saturday, with different programs and offerings and of course on Sunday with early morning bonfire and with program at Bharat Nivas at 8am.

Great Voices
The beauty in Auroville lies also in different surprises, and most of them do turn up as beautiful, inspiring, uplifting. Sunday couldn't finish its afternoon better than with a concert of classical music. Our ear buds were treated exceptionally with great voices of two guests – Sarah Aristidou and Eleonore Marmoret, studying opera singing in Paris, and accompanied by Carel on piano. With short songs and arias from operas we traveled trough centuries of European classical music... Pergolesi, Faure, Caccini, Cesarini, Mendhelssohn, Hayden, Strauss, Vivaldi, Mozart, Wolf, Satie...

Free Progress - Progress in Freedom

Last year art installation of four students from Last school was used as an example of Free Progress in the book Passage, which was released on Monday 12th of June at Bharat Nivas by Shri Kapil Sibal, Union Minister for Human Resource Development. About the book, school and their aims we talked with those students. Amongst others they told us that in the idea of Free Progress, the main thing is progress, and free is just and adjective. They are also very much aware that freedom requires lot of constraint, responsibility, and self motivation because finally the result that you gonna get is the result you will get for yourself, and not for proving something to someone else. Dr Froggy, Mr Toto

Read more

Read more
