Cosmical Philosophy

In this music program we feature Sun Ra Arkestra with its funder Sun Ra who’s centenary was last year. Sun Ra’s interstellar on jazz and funk continues to live on and inspire do this day. He died in 1993 at the age of 79 though it can’t be said that the jazz icon didn’t make good use of his time on Earth. In fact, he also made good use of his time not on Earth. Sun Ra a rich and versatile jazz composer, poet, philosopher , bandleader, piano and synthesizer player known for his “cosmic philosophy”, prolific output and performances.
Controversial because of his eclectic music and unorthodox lifestyle, and claiming that he was of the “Angel Race”, and not from Earth but from Saturn. Developing complex persona, using “cosmic” philosophies and lyrical poetry that made him a pioneer of afrofuturism. Above all he preached awareness and peace.

In some far off place
Many light years in space
I’ll wait for you
Where human feet have never trod
Where human eyes have never seen
I’ll build a world of abstract dreams
And wait for you
