SamratSamrat, teacher at Center Field Kindergarten, explains the Open House organized by the teachers to show the work of the young students to the parents. Songs and dances were performed; later the parents were invited to enjoy the exhibitions in the different classrooms. The schools host 45 children from numerous countries and the integration between those different cultures starts here. Playing and learning together is the first brick in building Human Unity. The teacher also approaches in a very spontaneous manner the teachings of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother.

Chris with childrenEducation is a learning process. In many traditional education models, children are forced to learn solely by repetition and test taking. An atmosphere of pressure prevails at the same time with pressure on both the students and teachers to perform. In other systems, however, the emphasis is placed on what's happening inside of the children, teaching them how to connect to their heart and spirit. Children are encouraged to access their own inner voice and communicate from that deep place. Chris, an American teacher, who has taught in different schools in various countries around the world, discusses in the interview some of her experiences teaching with both traditional and alternative methods in oder to find a balance between them in the name of a child.

DVD screening Wednesday, 11th January from 4 to 5.30pm at the Multimedia Centre, Town Hall.
In Rishi Valley, Andhra Pradesh, an alternate innovative educational method is in use for the last 20 years in 16 primary schools in the villages surrounding the main school. Separate self-study cards, containing the learning activities for the subject content of the first 4 standards of the primary level, are used there.
The primary level students take out those cards in a sequence and learn the subject content by themselves. School without Walls shows how this learning is in full harmony with their beautiful surroundings, as well as with their community, teachers and other students. The French director M. Robert André, who will be with us during the show, has done an excellent work. The film brings out vividly the joy of learning felt by the students.
Organised by Isai Ambalam School.
