Learning about Mantras
A mantra is a divinely inspired and powerful verse, chanted all over India on special occasions. Joy,’ an Aurovilian who has just recorded and released her second mantra cd, explains that these ancient mantras were strictly and precisely revealed in words and rhythms by gurus to initiates. She emphasizes the significance of singing them with the correct words and rhythms in a conscious way.

Om purnam adah purnam idam purnat purnam udachyate.
Purnasya purnam adaya’ purnam evavashishyate
Om shantih shantih shantih
All that is invisible is verily the infinite Brahman.
All that os visible is also the infinite Brahman.
The whole universe has come out of the infinite Brahman.
Brahman is infinite although the whole universe has come out of it.
