Last Saturday night, Smt. Jayalakshmi Sugumar gave us a unique performance in the Sri Aurobindo auditorium (Bharat Nivas). She is the grand daughter of veena legend, late Sri. Karaikudi Sambasiva Iyer, founder of the magnificent Karaikudi Bani, and daughter of veena vidushi, late Smt. Sankari Ammal. Having taught in Kalakshetra since 1966, in 1976 Jayalakshmi Sugumar shifted to Pondicherry, where she continued her services until 1981. Following that she worked for the Singapore Indian Fine Arts Society.

I have rendered a few poems from the book Collected Poems of Sri Aurobindo. I am having a great time discovering the multi-faceted grandeur of Sri Aurobindo's poetic genius. I am interested in sharing with the listeners my voice-adventure of trying to feel and render the poetry of Sri Aurobindo. The poem Bride of the Fire was written on November 11, 1935. The listeners can look forward to more such endeavours in the time to come. I am thankful to AurovilleRadio for letting me experiment.

3:05 3rd GM new selection process
Last night, the third General Meeting on the new selection process for the AV Council and the Working Committee was held, in the new SAIIER building. Although most Aurovilians will agree that changes are needed, not many attended this Questions and Answers session. Therefore, the study group now faces a choice, to: a) Go for a Resident Assembly decision making event, or b) Go through the selection process and to present the newly elected people together with the new process, for the approval of the community.

These days, the Square Circle Gallery, Kala Kendra in Bharat Nivas (Pavilion of Indian Culture, International Zone) hosts a group of artist from Reunion Island. The ArTranslation collective is a group consisting of four members who all practice different art forms. You can meet the artists on December 12th, at 3pm, in the Gallery Square Circle, Kala Kendra, and talk to them. In this interview, the ArTranslation collective members each, individually, talk to us about themselves and their art. The last day of the exhibition will be December 14th.

5:05 Painting on the Wood
Alla Dull is a Russian painter who started to paint on wood three years ago. "The idea to paint on wood came from seeing the Russian Icons", she says. The main subject of her paintings are faces and hands, she continues "The hand is the most personal part of the body. With the hand you can feel every thing". In her paintings one may see different faces, each giving a different feeling. The eyes may be the first thing to attract one in the painting. Alla believes that a persons eyes are connected to reality and always show real emotion.

Yesterday afternoon, Elvira and Sacha presented, at Unity Pavilion, a new project called Koodam. It aims at finding a new approach to resolving conflict. At the moment, anybody who seeks a solution to a dispute has but one choice: The City Council. The Auroville Koodam has been created to support Aurovilians who face difficult conversations, communication blockages or conflict. It is a move away from the idea of wrong vs. right and a judiciary system, and towards, instead, the idea of multiple truths,

7:05 ArTranslation in Kala Kendra
Christiane and Valerie from the collective ArTranslation talk to us about the project they are undertaking, in Auroville, this month. Aurellll and Cedric complete this collective of artists from the island Reunion, a small French island near Mauritius in the Indian Ocean. Exhibiting in Gallery Square Circle in Kala Kendra, Bharat Nivas, on December 4th to 14th, the opening is on the 4th at 4.30 pm. Personal works will be exhibited whilst the collective is also working outside on a structure made of gathered wood and stones.

Ahelia, a 14 year old Last School student, Yam, a 10 year old TLC student, and Jesse, a theater teacher and actor, share a passion for the theater. Here they talk about their lives in Auroville. Some extracts from their new performance, an audio book based on The Water Book, Jalam and Savita's Big Voyage, are given together with the interviews. Written by Sandrine, it is a marvelous journey with the spirit of water, named Jalam and played by Jesse, together with two Indian children. Savita is played by Ahelia and Sindhu is played by Yam.

Malu, Joem and Sebastian, making up the heart of Amayama band, performed  last night, with guests, at the Sri Aurobindo Auditorium, Bharat Nivas, Pavilion of Indian Culture in International Zone. They mesmerized the audience with their music, dance and visuals. Using the power of world music rhythms they managed to connect those present in human unity, as has been done down the ages; leaving almost nobody sitting. Visuals and music appear as result of seeking for truths through spiritual practices, prophets, teachers from dawn to todays ones, such as Ama or Don Miguel Ruiz. Good Show!

12:05 New Selection Process
Following are the minutes of the 2nd GM on a proposed New Selection Process for the Working Committee and the Auroville Council with a Participatory Working Group Proposal. Due to the rain, the meeting was not well attended. Still, what was exposed was that perhaps a new process will not make the dissatisfaction of the community disappear. It was mentioned, that even the best selection process possible would do nothing until we are ready to tackle the core issues that are burdening the community, causing much passivity and non-participation of its members.

13:05 Classik Stuff, and A Lo Latino
After the Singing Festival a group of singers were so inspired that they decided to continue the practice. The result is A LO LATINO, performing at 8.30pm on Friday the 25th, at the Unity Pavilion. A LO LATINO consists of 13 people from four continents - South America, Africa, Asia and Europe - led by five Colombians - Margarita, Margarita, Camilla, Alexandra, and Miguel. In this piece we talk to Margarita, who is known in the community for her work with probiotics. She invites us to A LO LATINO. We are also invited to a one hour concert - Classik Sutff by Genius Brothers - on the same Friday the 25th, but at 7.30pm at the Visitor Centre.

It was a beautiful night with Aurovilians and guest gathering together waiting to enjoy the concert at Bharat Nivas Auditorium. Despite the rising heat in the town, amphitheater in Kalabhumi on Saturday was packed with all who like to enjoy good music, and company of friends. Beside those who were announced to perform many others have joined them on the spot, and music was entertaining all long in night. Music from jazz to funky, rock and blues, all alive and very vibrant. Anna Taj was on vocals, Rolf, Edo, Pierre and Arthur on guitars, Saga, Piter and Robert on drums, Frederic on harmonica and Inga on bass.

16:05 New” SAIIER building
After many years, and having, since 1984, resided at Bharat Nivas, SAIIER (Sri Aurobindo International Institute for Educational Research), has finally got access to its new office. The official inauguration took place this morning, next to the Auroville Foundation building of the Town Hall complex. SAIIER is the covering umbrella for all education an transport activities and projects in Auroville. Starting with an invocation song by Joy, during the ceremonial Dr. Karan Singh presented gifts to the architect and the builders. The people gathered were also invited to visit the new space.

19:05 New Colors Masala Stage
New Colors is a learning and social support center for underprivileged children living in and around Edayanchavdy. Nikadass, alias Kumar, opened it in 2002. He was born in Auroville on March 9, 1979 and is an Udavi School Grade 3 teacher of Sports, Tamil and additional subjects. In 2006 Kumar married Israeli native Renana. They live together in the village. Renana has a high school diploma in agricultural geography and economics, a degree in civil engineering, and a degree in architectural and interior design engineering.

21:05 Auroville Film Festival 2013
After two years AV FIlm Festival is here again. Many participated in its organization, many participated with art installations, with music and dance at the yesterday's opening, and of course many submitted their films, which would be screen in next five days on three locations at Town Hall. Tom, Sasikant and Marco officially opened the festival with some explanations, categories of films and introducing judges. Despite that this time the budget was very tight, and not secured almost to the end, the overall feeling is vibrant, alive, colorful.

Last night Africa House, Pavilion of African Culture in International Zone shared with the community at Unity Pavilion few glimpses of diversity of their culture. Evening started with real Ethiopian Coffee Ceremony with help of Marc, continued by screening of Kirikou, and followed by delicious dinner from Western parts of Africa. Aicha with group of dancers-Sumita, Kash, Esther, Pierre, Christopher, Clapton and Taher brought to us dances from Sudan, Rwanda and Madagascar. Short presentation of Kenya was shown in between, night ended dancing.

Freek Schiphorst, one of four board members of Stichting de Zaaier, is currently visiting Auroville together with Martine Busek and Jan-Willen Pieterson. Here we interview him. After briefly introducing Zaaier, Freek explains that the Auroville visit is an exploration of what is happening here, not an evaluation mission. Especially for him and Jan-Willen, who are here for the first time, the aim is to get a "feeling" of what is going on. Freek has been deeply moved by the Auroville youth, and by the personal commitment of community members.
