Savitri, Book l, The Book of Beginnings, Canto lll, The Yoga of The King, The Yoga of The Soul’s Release. Part one of four parts, pages 22 – 27.
In Canto lll, we meet the great yogi and king, King Aswapathy, the human father of Savitri. His name in Sanskrit means “The Lord of The Horse”. Sri Aurobindo says that The Lord of The Horse is the Lord of Tapasya, the concentrated energy of spiritual endeavor that helps us to rise from the mortal to the immortal planes. In the yoga of the king Sri Aurobindo wrote about his own yoga and spiritual experiences in the way that he wanted us to understand for our own spiritual practice. Aswapathy’s days were a long growth to the Supreme. Eventually man must break into the infinity of God and escape across nature’s borderline into Supernature’s arc of living light. In Aswapathy that high transition laid its base.
