The Manifestation of the Art Dome

A conversational interview between Sankalpa: Art Journeys intern Marichelle Gurski (US) and architect Peter A. (German Aurovilian) on his philosophy behind creating the double-dome structure of the Sankalpa Art Center. Sankalpa is sub-unit of Thamarai, including the center located behind Tibetan Pavilion in the International Zone and the Art Cart parked at Visitor’s Center. Sankalpa provides the community with creative spaces for transformation of both inner and outer worlds, by breaking down the barriers that inhibit self-expression, making art accessible to all, and facilitating human unity through art.

This is an open dialogue about Peter’s journey to Auroville where he found a fascination with geodesic domes and their application in the community. We are given a rare glimpse into the wisdom of the stories he has to tell and how the structure of these domes bring people together.

To be sincere, all the parts of the being must be united in their aspiration for the Divine – not that one part wants and others refuse or revolt. To be sincere in the aspiration – to want the Divine for the Divine’s sake, not for fame or name or prestige or power or any satisfaction of vanity.

Tales of Twenty Dodgy Fingers

Tonight at Adishakti Theater we had a chance to see work, a world premiere of Karoliina Loimaala (Findland) and Maya Oliva(Italy) who are currently resident actresses here. Under the title “Tales of Twenty Dogdy Fingers” we saw Chapter 1 – With a Pair of Dirty Gloves, and Chapter 6 – You didn’t See This Coming, both with experimental minimalistic approach.
Tales are a series of Dance Theatre pieces, short episodes transforming the art of cinema live on stage., whereby film art has a tangible speicificity in details that absorbs the spectator in its world.
Karoliina and Maya have said “What If you could take a peek into a keyhole, into a mind? We want to tickle the mind. We search for deliberate ways of moving. We depart from the gesture of everyday actions. We twist them routhlessly around, fictionalize them, butter them up, dip them in boiling sugar. We reject abstract movement without a meaning and an end. We have an urge.”

Stories of Forest

Striking to most of the visitors of Auroville are constant chirping of birds and indigenous evergreen tropical dry forest or lots of trees …
Birds wake up in early morning hours before dawn, and perky conversations or monologues are going on all day long.
Each morning starts with another story of a day ahead.
Human ears selectively choose what to hear , but microphone hears everything. It does notice distant temple music, bikes and constant wind of the area.

LFA2017 Trashion Show

This year campaign of Litter Free Auroville was to bring the community together , to look at our trash. And we might not have done it in big scale past few weeks, but surely Trashion Show brought most of us into Visitor’s Centre.
We were dazzled, amazed by creation , a transformation of material  which in other circumstances might be considered as a  trash, yet we saw wonderful “high cotoure” design of individuals and units.
Auroville has witnessed this kind of transformation 7 years back, and after intensive work of Wastelss, Upcycling Studio and Eco Service….was about time to be reminded again that the attitude we have to our trash matters.

On the stage we saw many models of all ages, some even designers of the dress that was worn.
Before the beginning of Trahsion Show Unicorn Collective shared a dance of a giant couple(puppets), and recycling rap group tuned us into the show.
For uplifted spirit of the event we can also thank unstoppable Jesse as MC , and Matthia in charge of sound.
