Generosity and Gratitude for IYD

From Youth Link which has emerged in Retreat in March 2015, three active members visited us in the studio. After more than a year of their existence they have managed to set up their scope of work, focus of action – they are working on working opportunities of youth of AV and bioregion, searching for alternative and collective ways of housing, and trying to set up an efficient network for (higher) education. In that quest they do include people of other ages, and as they are saying support from all ways is huge (from AV alone they have between 80 to 90 mentors from other age groups).

Last year we celebrated for the first time an International Youth Day at Bahart Nivas.
This year IYD will be celebrated at Unity Pavilion on Friday 12th and Saturday 13th of August. For that occasion they are inviting all the youth from AV, bioregion, and others to come forward, and display their projects, art…..
The UN theme for this year “The Road to 2030: Eradicating Poverty and Achieving Sustainable Production and Consumption.” they have “auroviliazed”, and in that sense the focus of this year celebration will be on Generosity and Gratitude.

Planning Workshop (2 days)

Auroville value-based Town Planning and Development Workshop took place on 30th of April and 1st of May, from, 8:30 am to 5 pm
The workshop marks the 1st phase and is meant to build up energy, align our vision and values and prepare the ground for a further participatory process which includes the whole community. “Auroville is conceived as an urban experiment that would address the work of the ‘evolution of consciousness’: a spiritual way of life while dealing with challenges posed by the economic, sociological and cultural factors of the region.” (The Mother, 1970)
Workshop Objectives:

1. To generate a shared vision for planning as a true base for collaboration and initiating a participatory process for emerging from values into action

2. To find agreement around key issues with regard to Town Planning and Development in Auroville and how we can work together with integral vision and inclusiveness towards their realization.

3. To identify levels and stages of participation to put in place a process of a larger community participation in order to encourage and gather community input to Auroville planning.

4. By November, create a strong, vibrant and collaborative l’Avenir d’Auroville with an integral approach which takes into account all the facets of Auroville’s ideals and development, working together, transcending opinions and positions.

How to build the future? (short)

Accompanied by construction noises from a new concrete building site behind SAIIER, workers and supporters from Sacred Groves were discussing with opponents of the Sacred Groves project, skeptical Aurovillans and deputies from the Housing Board above big issues: How exactly should Auroville build its future?

Manu begins with an introduction about the importance of ecological construction and about the Sacred Groves housing project. The following discussion sets up all critical points about the project: It is supposed to take too long, to be too costly, and a couple of architects who are present dont believe the buildings to maintain stable into the monsoon. The questions are answered by the founders of Sacred Groves and its volunteers.

The music is taken from the German Combo “17 Hippies”.
