Introduction to Kabir's poetry

Dr.Sehdev Kumar gives a rich introduction about Kabir’s poetry and brief history. The presentation included translation and comments in English, and delicate musical intervals by Chandreshi on flute.
Dr. Sehdev Kumar takes us through the journey of a style of poetry, which was born in India during the 15th century, and stayed alive to this day with its deep philosophical messages.
The cultural and informative event was brought to Auroville by a collaboration of the Pavillon of Tibetian Culture and the Canadian Pavillon.

Interview with Dr. Sehdev Kumar

An introduction of Kabir’s philosophical poetry by Dr. Sehdev Kumar. Through the tale of the illiterate poet Kabir, we revisit the history and politics of India from the 15th century to the India of today.
The poetry and songs of the people, that has no particular religious attachment nor a cast. Still very popular to this days, Kabir’s poetry remains rich with insight and philosophy.

Art and Culture Workshop

It was a three days workshop organised by Bharat Niwas, it was conducted by artists from SEWA (Self Employed Women Association), Gujarat. They taught people the almost lost art of block printing and tie and dye which was used earlier for cloth printing and now it is getting replaced by screen printing and other techniques. This workshop was to make people know more closely about Indian culture.
A lot of people from all age groups took interest in the workshop.
We had an interview with Seema Majumdar from Darpana Acedmy, Gujarat and she talked about the work they do and how they are taking efforts to educate people about the art and culture of India.

International Women’s Day 2017

Auroville women celebrate International Women’s Day by hosting traditional music, dance and ‘kolam’ (chalk art) competitions at Swachu Building at Bharat Nivas on 18 March 2017.

The United Nations theme for International Women’s Day 2017, focuses on “Women in the Changing World of Work: Planet 50-50 by 2030”. While the women in cities were occupied in either organizing or participating in various conferences and meetings, Women at Auroville have celebrated the day by promoting the local culture in three forms viz., music, dance, art by spreading the theme of gender equality and women civic participation in the society.

Grace, Usha and Mathi from Auroville have taken a lead role in organizing various cultural activities which includes music and dance competitions and also performances.

Bregette (from Hollande) has been at Auroville and serving at Matrimandir for five years now and in talking to the Auroville Radio she expressed her excitement of being part of this community in rendering various services mainly to the ‘art and culture’.

Mayawati, from La Farm has been the instructor for the ‘kolam’ art competition. Many young girls, students and women participated and filled the floor of the building with amusing and colorful art.

Woman in Auroville and Bioregion

This week, on Thursday 16th of March at 10.30am SAIIER Conference Room interesting presentation awaits us on Auroville Women’s Health Survey. Paula Murphy along with Michel Mussies who have designed and executed the survey, will be presenting it.
Paula , who is a midwife by her profession, shares with us some insights, thoughts on the survey. in which almost 300 women from Auroville and the bioregion participated.
What does it means to be woman right here, right now? How do we address sexual education in our schools? Do women feel safe here or how do they take care of their safety?
Many topics, many issues touching a healthy life of a woman ….
