Welcome to ‘A Library Of Things’

Program by :

Alot – A Library Of Things is an initiative taken by Earth&Us, which is an Auroville unit working as sustainability consultants and resource management experts.
We tend to own a lot of things but seldom use all of the things we possess, resulting in clutter in our cupboards and our lives. We want to possess and store things to satisfy the impatience of having things readily available for our use, even it is just a one time use.
Earth&Us have come up with a solution. Alot, which acts as library of things, literally. The idea is to have collective archive of tools and products which can be accessed by the community and returned back to the library, making it readily available for others to re-use. This takes away the huge burden of purchasing, storing and maintaining a lot of our things. Imagine buying a drilling machine, to put few shelves and not finding a need for it for next few years or the toys the children get bored of faster than even seasons can change. Mass consumptions demands mass production and ultimately causes mass destruction of our natural resources. The library of things poses as a hope of not only giving respect to the great tools we invent but also paves way for a community to come closer and relate to each other through the service of sharing. This is an innovative concept which will of course go through its teething process and as a progressive community, who encourages collective sharing, we must take initiative to support this new venture, which promises to bring abundance and a joy of sharing in our lives.
