CAT on RC in Auroville

Friday 6th October there was a CAT (Creative Auroville Together) gathering on Restorative Circles (RC) in Unity Pavillion, Auroville.
Together with the Cat team we explored what RC can offer us as a community, how do they work and why do we have them.
RC is a community process designed to hold space for those in conflict.
There are 3 stages designed to identify the key factors in the conflict, reach agreements on next steps, and evaluate the results.
As circles form they invite shared power, mutual understanding, self – responsibility and effective action within the community.
The process is voluntary and open to all. Anyone can call a circle, anyone can be named to be invited to a circle and anyone can contact the facilitator and request to be included.
Most of the participants find RC a powerful tool to be used as one of Auroville`s conflict resolution options.
How to call a circle? Send a mail to restorative@auroville.org.in or speak in person to L`aura, Janet, Shanti, Helene or Kati.
Two day regular workshops will be offered (see News and Notes).
Also interesting to know that RC practices development began with the work of Dominic Barker in Rio de Janeiro in the mid 90`s in the favelas and continues with a growing community both in Brazil and internationally

Sanghamitra Das in Auroville

Sanghamitra Das rendered us a fascinating presentation on the highly traditional Baul singing and dancing tradition in Kala Kendra.
Bauls are a religious and cultural group of India, best known for their songs and poems to the god who dwells within. The term “Baul” is usually understood to mean “madman” or religious ecstatic, and Bauls often describe themselves as crazy for God.

The Baul tradition dates back to the early 8th C AD and has grown weaving together threads from Sahajiya Buddhism, Turkish Sufism and Bengali Hinduism. This powerful musical form has been recognised as a “Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity” by UNESCO.

She supported herself on Ektara and Guggi drum and Suresh on cajon and Dhani on guitar took care of some added percussion and strings.

Savitri, B. III, C. I

Savitri, Book III, The Book Of The Divine Mother, Canto I, The Pursuit Of The Unknowable

The Great Yogi-King reached the top of all that can be known, and finds it is not enough. Now he must pursue the Unknowable, He must have the realization of the infinite, eternal, Supreme Master of Creation along with the realization of the Divine Mother. The king reaches a height where he must make a tremendous choice; “All he had been and all towards which he grew must now be left behind or else transform into a self of That which has no name….The separate self must melt or be reborn into a Truth beyond the mind’s apeal”. Then the yogi-king can realize the One by whom all live, who lives by none.

Open House Sunship

On Saturday, September 30th we were invited for an open house in Sunship. Sunship started as a next step of the Citadines experiment which pioneered an urban collective housing project with a difference.
Originally the aspiration was to do the entire building with contributions from well-wishers . Due to practical reasons, out of the 39 apartments, 20 are to give on a pro bono basis and balance the rest with financial contribution. Sunship is an experiment in a new living, offering compact personal spaces and yet be part of a harmonious collective life. There are also common areas, such as double height terraces, the dining room, laundry and maintenance are taking care for. .. and of course Sunship integrates waste management, waste water treatment, rain water harvesting, solar energy and so on…
In the morning there was a short meditation while we listened to a talk from the mother while playing her organ, followed by a talk of Anu and Louis Cohen. Afterwards we could visit some of the apartments and have a cup of tea. In the afternoon there was an exctract from the show BHU/EARTH directed by Philippe and Thierry.
