Savitri, B. III, C. IV, Part 1

C. IV, The Vision And The Boon – Presence and first Response

An Influence has approached the mortal range where the King’s conscious, yearning, offered heart is waiting. A boundless Heart is near his longing heart. The Divine Mother, the One he worships, comes into his inner being to respond to his passionate need for her to come and change the earth and man. She already knows everything. Before he can speak, her voice, is heard in the chambers of his offered heart. Here, in the first part of this canto, she tells him that man is still too weak to bear the Infinite’s weight, and she asks him to stay on earth and continue his yoga his work to raise mankind. She promises that all things will change in God’s transfiguring hour. His response and her reply come in the second part of this canto.

Savitri, B. III, C. III, Part 3

The House Of The Spirit And The New Creation; Longing For The Divine Mother

The Traveller of the Worlds, King Aswapathy, has reached the Supramental world – the highest consciousness – the goal of all spiritual seeking. But he has not yet attained his personal goal of asking the Divine Mother to come and fix our problems here on the earth plane. The King saw that he was two beings; one being was the part of him that was wide and free, above the world in the Supramental plane; but the other one was his body, struggling and bound, on earth, in mystic sleep, unable to call the Mother. Only the King’s heart was left to call Her. The King could see his living, sacrificed and offered heart, conscious and alone, far down below him, like a lamp in night. Extinction could not quench that lonely fire. Accepting bliss as the sole cause of things and refusing the austere joy which none can share, it turned to its far-off source of light and love, and waited for the Word of The Supreme. The introduction to this part of Savitri includes a history of how the King is changed from The Kingdoms and Godheads of The Greater Mind in Canto XI up to the Supermind, and how we will also change.

Savitri, B. III, The Book Of The Divine Mother, C. III, The House Of The Spirit And The New Creation, Part 2, p. 322 – 329

The King has the Supramental Consciousness. He lives in immeasurable and blissful unity. He experiences a new and marvelous creation, rising out of the Spirit, where all are joined by spiritual links and all are the One. Matter is density of Spirit and substance is a resonant harp of Self. All that passes here lives immortal there.

Savitri, Book III, The Book Of The Divine Mother, Canto I, The Pursuit Of The Unknowable

The Great Yogi-King reached the top of all that can be known, and finds it is not enough. Now he must pursue the Unknowable, He must have the realization of the infinite, eternal, Supreme Master of Creation along with the realization of the Divine Mother. The king reaches a height where he must make a tremendous choice; “All he had been and all towards which he grew must now be left behind or else transform into a self of That which has no name….The separate self must melt or be reborn into a Truth beyond the mind’s apeal”. Then the yogi-king can realize the One by whom all live, who lives by none.

Savitri, B. II, C. XV

Savitri, Book II, The Book Of The Traveller Of The Worlds, Canto XV, The Kingdoms Of The Greater Knowledge

King Aswapathy awakens in the colorless purity of his own soul. All once perceived and lived was far away. He had risen out of the sphere of Mind and he saw the undivided splendor of the Spirit in its complete unity of all things. This canto describes the overmind consciousness and Sri Aurobindo writes that the king scanned the secrets of the overmind. King Aswapathy’s finite parts approached their absolutes, his actions framed the movements of the Gods, his will took up the reigns of cosmic Force.

Savitri, B. II, C. XIV

Savitri, Book II, The Book Of The Traveller Of The Worlds, Canto XIV, The World Soul

The great Yogi-King is called by a mysterious sound which is all sounds in turn and yet the same, and he enters a mystic passage to the deep heart of the world. There, where all is soul, he finds the silent soul of all the world, and he sees the fashioning chamber of the worlds where souls return to rest between births. Along a road of pure interior light his soul passes on towards the end which ever begins again. There he sees, for the first time in his long, long journey, the Divine Mother.

Savitri, B. II, C. XIII

Savitri, Book II, The Book Of The Traveller Of The Worlds, Canto XIII, In The Self Of Mind, Pages 283 – 288

King Aswapathy reaches the silent Self of Mind at the summit of the mental worlds and feels that he has arrived at his goal. But a ray of light falls upon all things seen or touched or heard or felt, and showed his mind that nothing could be known. He must reach “That”, the true source of all knowledge. Sri Aurobindo poetically describes and destroys all the value of the planes of Mind which the traveler has been through so far, and the immortal spirit of the king is imprisoned in a world where all must die to live and live to die.

Savitri, B. II, C. XII

Savitri, Book II, The Book Of The Traveller Of The Worlds, Canto XII, The Heavens Of The Ideal

The Traveller enters the first world of spiritual higher mind. Although the great godheads and great thoughts at this level are a powerful part of the whole cosmic scheme, they are not the final goal. Sri Aurobindo writes that although the power of the spiritual higher mind isn’t enough to completely purify us, still it can make a first change in us. On either side of the ascending stairs of the World Stair at this level rise the two kingdoms of this plane of consciousness; the mighty kingdoms of the Deathless Rose and the mighty kingdoms of the Deathless Flame Each one gives the seeker something which helps along the way.

Savitri, B. II, C. XI, Part 3

Savitri, Book II, The Book Of The Traveller Of The Worlds, Canto XI, The Kingdoms And Godheads Of The Greater Life, Part 3

The Traveller is reaching the summit of the triple stairs of the Greater Mind. He sees the sovereign Kings of Thought whose thoughts are partners in the vast control of the commanding thoughts of the creator Self. With their abstract purity of godless sight they brought to mind what mind could never reach. This was the play of the bright gods of Thought, attracting into time the timeless Light. They have planned to snare the feet of Truth and keep her captive for the thinker’s joy. Sri Aurobindo shows us how each of us relates to Truth and how we each use Truth for our own purposes, but Truth is greater than her forms. She remains herself and infinite.

Savitri, B. II, C. XI, Part 2

Savitri, Book II, The Book Of The Traveler Of The Worlds, Canto XI, The Kingdoms And Godheads Of The Greater Mind, Part 2, Pages 264 – 271

Sri Aurobindo describes the ascent into Greater Mind, starting with the first two levels of what he calls “a triple realm of ordered thought”. He describes the wardens who meet the heaven-bound soul, interpreters between man’s mind and God’s mind, and the Masters of Things Actual whose thoughts give form to Natures moods; the are the creators of matter by hid stress of mind; the beings who fill life with Thought’s immensities. Then he describes the subtle archangel race who live in the mind and know truth from within. Still, no mental power can receive the whole Truth of the Mighty Mother’s vast work of the creation of our universe.
