Audible Weed Walk – ep.52 “What sets the wild plants apart?”

What sets the wild plants apart? – Why do we refer to some plants as wild and other naturally growing ones are not? From time immemorial human beings have adopted plants for their own use by selective breeding, and by grafting. Why? To make the plant more tasty of course but more importantly to make it easy to digest. Sometimes this process took millenia. I will give an example to demonstrate that the cultivar we humans have created is so different from the original wild species that sometimes even the scientists get confused. These cultivars sometimes grow naturally in your yard.. Would you call them wild? Let us explore this together.
