Audible Weed Walk – ep.53 “The wild cousin that became a celebrity abroad”

The wild cousin that became a celebrity abroad – This plant with all its cousins are revered plants and have holy status. They were not eaten much in India for that reason or not I do not know. But Italy sure got popular as food. Italians grew the plant with its preferred traits and three most popular today are Genovese, followed by Anise and Cinnamon. Of course, there are many more varieties. It is hard to imagine Italian cuisine without pesto or use of fresh basil. They are the leaves of our own sabja. The wild cousin – or bon-tulsi, that travelled abroad and became a celebrity.
