Auroville celebrates it’s 50th Anniversary

Auroville witnessed thousands of people gathering at the Amphitheatre in Matrimandir on its 50th Anniversary Celebrations here on Wednesday.

Fifty years have rolled by since Auroville was inaugurated on February 28, 1968 when youth representing 121 nations and 23 Indian States placed a handful of earth in an urn, symbolising the creation of a city dedicated to international understanding and planetary transformation. The Mother’s vision has fired the imagination of people from all across the world and today.

In today’s celebratory event, the children of Auroville have poured water in the Golden Disc where in water was brought forth from over 300 spots of the world. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi who was here on 25th February initiated the Water Ceremony. During his visit to Matrimandir the Prime Minister poured the water from Ganges and Kaveri into the Golden Disc. Speaking to the people who gathered at the Amphitheatre said that they were moved to tears and were happy to be a part of such an amazing experience of a life time.

Auroville Charter

Auroville belongs to nobody in particular. Auroville belongs to humanity as a whole. But to live in Auroville, one must be a willing servitor of the Divine Consciousness.

Auroville will be the place of an unending education, of constant progress, and a youth that never ages.

Auroville wants to be the bridge between the past and the future. Taking advantage of all discoveries from without and from within, Auroville will boldly spring towards future realisations.

Auroville will be a site of material and spiritual researches for a living embodiment of an actual human unity.
