Audible Weed Walk ep.45 “Peppers that changed the world and us”

The story of peppers started some 4000 yrs back with the Indus Valley, finds its mention in Valmiki’s Ramayana – and mingled with the Egyptian pharaohs, medical application in Greece, culinary delicacies in Rome, caught the fancy of the Vikings, became the center of trade for the merchants of Venice, and then was the primary inspiration for the Age of Discovery, leading to trade, politics, colonization – that has changed the world and us. But it looks like not one but several types of peppers were involved in this. Do they still exist? What are their properties. Do they still grow as wild, weedy, and uncultivated? Listen to find out more.
