Interview with Lobzang Wangtak

Three roads are being built linking Kargil, Manali and Leh to Padum (the most important town in Zanskar).

Lobzang Wangtak, known as “the Water man of Zanskar”, is working hard to bring to the attention of Zanskaris the devastating consequences of pollution – waste – water – disrespect of traditions and – caused by an influx of tourists in their region, which until now has been protected from the tourist invasion. He studied the damage caused in Leh.

The water comes from the glaciers, which are receding year by year. This is a subject that is not talked about very much, and its importance is global. He also talks about male and female glaciers, how the ancients knew how to keep them alive. Their knowledge, he says, is a source of inspiration for moving towards a conscious future.
