Sing Sing – Musical Party

Thursday offered a surprise to the community in the form of a unique experience: tribal music from the Pacific. The concert was announced sometime before lunch but was well attended at Unity Pavilion in the International Zone. ‘Sing Sing’ from Australia, Papua New Guinea, Australia, Fiji and Oceania plus Baul singer from Bengal as a musical gathering shook the ground and lifted everyone onto their feet. Ancient drum rhythms fused with old rock, electronic trans-melodies nearly hypnotised but surely transfixed the audience, connecting all.

From different cultures we may come speaking in different tongues, yet deep within, our souls touch each other through the language of music. With music we communicate and talk in a common language – with ‘one talk. Throughout Melanesia’. //Soru Anthony Subam, The Sanguma Band, (PNG), July 2006//
