Synthesis of Yoga

The Synthesis of Yoga is Sri Aurobindo’s principal work on yoga; it is an examination of the traditional systems of yoga as well as a comprehensive explanation of his own method: Integral Yoga. This reading is the second portion of Chapter 24 Gnosis and Ananda (of Part Two, Yoga of Integral Knowledge) on page 503.

“The gnosis does not reject the realisations of the lower planes; … the gnostic soul is not bound … the gnostic supramental life … obeys the law of a self-possessed Knowledge, Love, Delight in an innumerable Oneness.
There is at each step of the ascent from Matter to the highest Existence a reversal of consciousness. The soul no longer looks up to something beyond it, but is in it and from it looks down on all that it was before. On all planes indeed the Ananda can be discovered, because everywhere it exists and is the same.
The joy of contact in diverse oneness becomes altogether the joy of absolute identity in innumerable oneness.”
